Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Tesla Cybertruck will get up to 500 miles of range and start at $39,900 Always a showman, Musk put the truck through its paces in an effort to demonstrate its ruggedness. He had Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla's chief of design, hit the door of the truck with a sledgehammer several times, claimed it was practically bulletproof, and showed the truck winning a tug-of-war with a Ford F150 and a drag race with a Porsche 911.

It doesn't look like it's from the future. It looks like something somebody in the 80s thought something in the future would look like, which is the actual design aesthetic. Bladerunner, 1982. Delorean Cars, 1981-1983.

His dad credits the lavish lifestyle he provided his family with the riches the mines provided as being what sparked his son to entrepreneurial success. Dad and angel investors funded his first startup, which is why him & his brother only pocketed 8% of the sale to Compaq. It was to beef up AltaVista, but eventually spiked.

"December 11, 2018"

Out of date.

Used Teslas have disappeared from the worlds largest used car marketplace

"Since last summer, used Tesla prices began a rapid descent. As we reported last year, in October 2018, the average used Tesla sold for $87.000 at CarMax. By December of that same year, the average Tesla price dropped to $60,400 " a drop of 31% in just a couple of months."

Depreciation, warranty issues, rehab time & cost, falling ASP. The "cheap" model 3s aren't there in any meaningful numbers yet to drive down the ASP even further.

Tesla also cut their warranty allocation again in the last 10-Q, haven't put Capex into renewing Fremont not growing the parts and service supplies, and squeaked out the profit by claiming FSD deferred income through the Smart Summon release and currency interest differentials. Musk even walked back FSD from previous claims and added a lot of asteriks to it. Tough times in Tesla land. At least SpaceX is healthier, maybe.

I feel that Tesla, unlike any other car, is on a much faster upgrade cycle. Not Moore's Law fast, but faster than any other car out there. This helps explain the enhanced depreciation: In terms of technology, a five year old Tesla is further behind today's Tesla than a five year old Toyota is behind today's Toyota.

Here's the deal for me... I live in a pretty cold in the winter climate. A number of Teslas have popped up in town the last couple years and I talked to a couple owners over the summer. They indicated negligible issues in the dead of the winter with battery so I started looking at them. It's pretty attractive to dump $50/week in gas (at current prices) in favor of cheap electric energy. A Model 3 I could drive for a week without issues or recharging. Again - Very attractive. For long trips, there is always another of our vehicles. I have looked and talked to dealers - you are nuts if you think "Real world offers from May 2019: 2018 rwd LR red performance model 3, 10.5k miles. $56k purchase. Final offer, $33.5k" is reality for a Model 3 with those miles. I frankly have no desire to buy new but I may... And did that $56k purchase include the incentives? Just saying because you might as well take those off the top because that's reality of the purchase price.

I'm more interested in Sitzkrieg's deeply personal grudge against Elon Musk.

Simple - liberals like tesla, so brainwashed moron conservatives hate tesla.

They pretend it's because of his "government subsidies" except they dont care about any subsidies that go to fossil fuels.

All you had to do in the early 2000's was let a Bush voter see even a the tiniest white corner of an Apple product in your possession. Triggered! as Trump The Younger might say.

I find brand-cultists annoying, for the record.

Still better looking than the Mustang SUV

You know that truck looks like what a B2 Stealth Bomber would birth if it could get pregnant.

Final offer? You hit up Ebay? LMAO.

Take one to Carvana and see what the real offer is. People have been stunned more by that than the automatic depreciation caused by Tesla price cuts.

Snoofy must write for Elektrek lol. "This self-imposed depreciation is good for Tesla! Technology!" It's an end of quarter sales drive they sacrifice ASP for. Good stuff. Just don't drink the koolaid.

Not a grudge. You're confused by cynicism. He makes me money. The SEC should throw him in jail though.

Here to settle the debate:
Outrageously uncool looking car. I forgot how old musk was.

"I mean Musk is a loony self made actual multi-billionaire and Trump is a loon who rode daddy's fortune"

IOW He's one of them "willing to donate" billionaires that lizbet has in her sights?

"They just did a Tesla-in-a-hurricane-zone-powers-out-for-a-week test. It went badly. Someone smashed the bulletproof windows out with a stone too."

Please don't bring those negatives out. People here will claim you are working for sunoco.
Just pretend they didn't happen. Then go kick the first ostrich you see in the az.

My cousin's boys work for Musk. They are not fans. I like the look of Tesla cars but that truck is low res mad max awful.

I am hoping someone sells an ugly EV work truck with a flat bed. Or maybe an EV RV. No more ICE cars for me.
