The Justice Department's inspector general found no evidence that the F.B.I. attempted to place undercover agents or informants inside Donald J. Trump's campaign in 2016 as agents investigated whether his associates conspired with Russia's election interference operation, people familiar with a draft of the inspector general's report said.

The determination by the inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz, is expected to be a key finding in his highly anticipated report due out on Dec. 9 examining aspects of the Russia investigation. The finding also contradicts some of the most inflammatory accusations hurled by Mr. Trump and his supporters, who alleged not only that F.B.I. officials spied on the Trump campaign but also at one point that former President Barack Obama had ordered Mr. Trump's phones tapped. The startling accusation generated headlines but Mr. Trump never backed it up.

The finding is one of several by Mr. Horowitz that undercuts conservatives' claims that the F.B.I. acted improperly in investigating several Trump associates starting in 2016. He also found that F.B.I. leaders did not take politically motivated actions in pursuing a secret wiretap on a former Trump campaign adviser, Carter Page " eavesdropping that Mr. Trump's allies have long decried as politically motivated.

But Mr. Horowitz will sharply criticize F.B.I. leaders for their handling of the investigation in some ways, and he unearthed errors and omissions when F.B.I. officials applied for the wiretap, according to people familiar with a draft of the report. The draft contained a chart listing numerous mistakes in the process, one of the people said.

Horowitz is placing all those he criticized into double secret probation. He had to give the Trumphumpers something to complain about and lose their feeble minds over.

Mission accomplished, evidently. Oh, and again, it confirms that Trump is an unrepentant, inveterate liar, a wonderful trait to have in a President....

Missed opportunity by the Obama DOJ.

Great, so 1 of the 19 US intelligence agencies down, 18 to go including the CIA. I don't think Papadopolous was set up by the FBI. For the most part, the FBI seems like liars, leakers, and incompetent stooges more than traitors (like Comey, Page, McCabe, Strzok). The Barr investigation is the one conservatives want.

As I posted from day 1, the FBI IG would be an attempted whitewash. The bigger issues with the FBI will be this guy changing the Carter Page FISA documents and more importantly - the Page changing Flynn's 302 - but that will come out in court not the toothless IG. The real investigation is Barr/Durham - which is not limited to the FBI and this was way bigger than the FBI. This was CIA, NSA headed up by Clapper and Brennan. Comey/McCabe are just dimbulb liars and leakers.

Because the Dems did the equivalent of 'Swatting' when they made up the fake Steele Dossier and took out the illegal FISA warrants on Page - and just like in a swatting, they found no evidence for the crime that they were said to be investigating.

This report is going to confirm there was a sufficient evidentiary basis for the FISA warrant. Apparently, an FBI attorney may have altered an exhibit used in one of the renewal application. If so, I hope he or she is disbarred and/or criminally prosecuted. It doesn't change the fact that the warrant was legitimate and that Trump is a corrupt moron and a traitor.

Mostly due to the War on Drugs, these types of peccadilloes are overlooked in the name of Justice.

It didn't have to be this way.

But it is, and hearing Republicans cry about it when they cheered for the demise of Miranda rights is just another punchline in this comedic tragedy.

IS it that you WANT to be in denial because you WANT to believe in Moscow's lies? Because they fit so well with Trumps lies?

Sadly...Now you have to live with the memories of being bamboozled by the Russians again and again and again!

Sucks to be you!!!

How many times will you fall for these lies? How many lies do you have to tell yourselves to cover up for previously embarrassing lies you fell for?

Hang in there bro. It's almost over. 2020 is almost here!

Say bye bye Humpy!! Enjoy your life of eternal court battles and fighting for the rest of your dad life to stay out of prison.

This IG report says the steele dossier wasn't the source of the investigation sorry.

And saying NO EVIDENCE doesn't make it true. There were over 20 indictments. And trump obstructed justice 10 times, which prevented the investigation from being done properly.

So now illegally listening to Trump (via wiretapping) and his campaign people is NOT 'spying' by the FBI. The FISA warrants were illegally obtained. And their illegally listening to Trump and his people is ILLEGAL. And it is spying. You just cannot believe anyone in the Washington now-a-days.

#35 | Posted by SJHamilton at 2019-11-28 08:36 AM | Reply

Shocking that the NYT would move the goalposts. Based on the tweet at the top of the page they are defining "spying" as the FBI placing a mole into the Trump campaign. The FBI used its full surveillance powers, which are vast, to "spy" on Carter Page. The key question regarding that is whether or not such a move was adequately predicated. Unless I see otherwise I say that it was. Here's the thing though - there has been a LOT of selective leaking to the MSM, mostly in 1 direction, in the days leading up to the official release of the report. Why? It comes across as Democrats and the DOJ/CIA/FBI desperately trying to set a preemptive narrative to try and soften the blow of the report.

The report will be made public in 10 days. I'll wait until then to begin to draw more hardened conclusions. Selective leaking to WaPo, NYT and CNN is not trustworthy on its own.

#36 | Posted by JeffJ at 2019-11-28 08:43 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

The early spin on Fox News is that even though Trump's claim of spying will be shown to be typical Trump b.s., the IG report will still be "damaging" because some FBI personnel behaved unprofessionally.

Damaging to whom? To those who behaved unprofessionally? Fine.

The president is unprofessional 24 hours per day. It's time for him to suffer some consequences for it.

Bu, when you heard it I believe that the moron had claimed his "wires" were "tapped" by President Obama.

Which is impossible in the normal world because the President cannot just give that order. It has to go before a judge and a warrant issued. No warrant has ever been issued to tap Humpy's phones before the election. Laws are in place to protect us from the criminal behavior like this because it is exactly what criminals like Trump would obviously try to do.

It is sad how stupid our people have become. This false claim was easily disproven. And Yet you still believe the lies. Because you want to?
