Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Richard Spencer, Washington Post: The case of Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, a Navy SEAL who was charged with multiple war crimes before being convicted of a single lesser charge earlier this year, was troubling enough before things became even more troubling over the past few weeks. The trail of events that led to me being fired as secretary of the Navy is marked with lessons for me and for the nation. ... the president has very little understanding of what it means to be in the military, to fight ethically or to be governed by a uniform set of rules and practices.

"to fight ethically or to be governed by a uniform set of rules and practices."

No one could have predicted this from a spoiled billionaire NY real estate debutante.

This guy has 'ex' in his name - clearly it was this guy that did not understand the rules.

The Obama dictated "rules of engagement" got a lot of Americans killed in Afghanistan and Iraq and deliberately crippled our fighting forces. After all, Obama might have had some relatives fighting for the Muslim killers. If Obama and the liberal America-haters had been in power in World War II we'd all be speaking German or Japanese. On the battlefield, s**t happens and many of us veterans have seen it. Get over the outrage and be thankful America has men like Gallagher.

"Fight ethically"

Explains how we keep losing wars since WW2.

Presidents with no military service, don't understand military values?

I'm shook.

Trump is a sociopath. He understands rules fine; he thinks they apply to other people.

Interesting. Reagan set the ROE in Lebanon and I've spoken with a Marine who was there who told me exactly how that 200 or so of his friends killed.

Word has it that the presidents at the time were FDR and Truman.

People who don't know, or care to know, about history become Trumpites. History gets in the way of believing in Trump. Eventually someone will propose a book buring, and you'll be there.

Silly. Beneath a man of your knowledge.

Our recent wars end exactly the way the British and French wars with tribal peoples ended: they don't.

Amazing how conservatives can just pretend that major historical events never happened. It was actually George W. Bush that sent Americans to be killed.

Thousands dead, hundreds of thousands of casualties, trillions of dollars, years of pain and costs to come... this is all on Bush, not Obama.

I guess not understand the rules in why ISIS is nowhere as effective as it was sunder obama. There are rules and there are rules. Comments from a disgruntled former employee.

"Conservatives" don't believe in history. Just like they don't believe in science. Those things can be used to prove that they are wrong about something. That's unacceptable. The "truth" is given by Dear Leader and is not to be disputed.

"On the battlefield, s**t happens and many of us veterans have seen it. Get over the outrage and be thankful America has men like Gallagher."

That's true.

That's why it's incredibly beneficial to let the services, and in this case Gallagher's peers, decide if what he had done was justified.

To me, this is no different than if a president ordered that a Navy SEAL had his trident removed. And by all accounts, his fellow service members had intentionally screwed with his kit to keep him from killing innocent people.

They don't matter?

"Such are the clues that tell you Trump is in trouble."

In trouble?

Trump is fine. He's got billions...he can fvvk this presidency thing up to the edge of getting thrown in jail...what does he care.

But the Republican party is done. Progressives should love that. Trump is the Bernie of the right. He's tethered himself to such extreme positions, that he can't really shift back. And the party has thrown their full weight behind him, meaning they can't shift back either.

@ Bumpkin444 "The Obama dictated "rules of engagement" got a lot of Americans killed" No, that would be your favorite hero super chicken hawks Bush/Cheney which invaded the place in the first place for no good reason other than to rape their oil for the corporate vampires that ran those two --------. Nice try at propaganda though.
