Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, December 01, 2019

It was the week before Thanksgiving, and the substitute teacher had asked the boy's class: "What are you thankful for this year?" Some of the kids had said turkey and mashed potatoes. One girl mentioned her dog. Another student joked about not having to go to school over the holiday. The boy's response was a bit more serious. "I'm thankful that I'm finally going to be adopted by my two dads," he answered. Students later said that the substitute snapped, "Why on earth would you be happy about that?"

Not sure if she "flipped out"....

That being said, this is just one more reason why people should home school their child.

Trump and Pence are totally cool with this idea that it's better to be an orphan than be raised by a loving same-sex couple.

If the fifth grader had been at home he wouldn't have gotten a first class education in the recognition of hatred, ignorance and prejudice.

This kids gonna have some real psych problems unless he was born gay. Wait until he hits puberty and finds girls. I predict family counseling if he's straight. But yeah if it's a loving home go for it. I mean, he can ask for fashion advice at least....

#5 Teaching sexual morality has no place in a public school, especially to young children. If you want to send your kid to Drag Queen Story Hour it's your decision.*

Either that, or find a good school that doesn't feed kids leftist mush.

In a Time of Distraction, an Education Focused on Timeless Ideas

What does it mean to truly be educated? Great Hearts Academies, a series of charter schools in Texas and Arizona, is focused on a classical curriculum. "We are trying to provide a form of education where our students' loves are tapped into. They begin to learn to love what is true. They are drawn to what is beautiful. They recognize that goodness is desirable and they want it for themselves," says Robert Jackson, the chief academic officer of Great Hearts Academies

That's okay.

It's perfectly acceptable amongst conservatives for people to act like complete pieces of garbage towards someone else based on what they are rather than who they are.

Also. You got to teach kids what to hate when they are young. Otherwise they won't know.

Actually the opposite, see this is where you really show your lack of intelligence.

See the public school here is shaming a kid for having homosexual parents. For the rest of his life he will be scarred.

Yet you seem to want more of it for kids, this randomness of teacher indoctrinating kids to someone elses prejudice belief system.

Why? You can't predict what some crazy teacher is going to do your child in public school these days. From climate scare, shooting drills et al, schools just aren't for learning these days.

As my father is famous for saying, the worst place to be when you are sick is in the hospital.

I say the worst place to learn today is public schools, is a crap shoot.

Either that, or find a good school that doesn't feed kids leftist mush.

Its not just the "mush" its just the waste of time, Snoofy talks about talking classes for marketable skills, he obviously isn't talking about public schools.

@#1 ... this is just one more reason why people should home school their child. ...

Can you explain why you think this is a reason why people should home school their child?

thx.

As I read more of the thread...

Thanks for that comment.

Yes, the public school had a problem.

But the problem was not the public school here, but the individual [substitute] teacher.

So why proffer putting in place an extreme solution (home schooling) when a better solution would be to have a better criteria for substitute teacher selection.

Another aspect, when I've mentioned about people having trouble paying for their food and shelter, some of the republican-oriented folk here said that families should work multiple jobs to make ends meet.

So how can home schooling be donme when the parents have to work multiple jobs in order to make ends meet?

Trumpublicans are convinced public schools are liberal bastions. Mostly because the more intelligent a person becomes the more likely they are to be liberals.

So. They attack education. If they had their way. We'd all be reading the Bible.

Which. Is eerily similar to most Muslim theocracies. It doesn't matter what the religion is, when you combine religion with conservatism you end up with a lot of oppressed, poorly educated sheep.

I've noticed that as well, and it has perplexed me greatly.

On one hand the Republicans hate Muslims, yet they espouse a similar religious rigidity that Muslims espouse.

I have not yet been able to understand that scenario.

If I frame it as ~Republicans hate anyone who has a different opinion than they do~ it all makes sense.

But I really do not want to need to cast that filter upon the current situation in order to understand what is occurring. I hope to find a better rationale to explain the hatred that I see Republicans cast upon others.

Dan Savage and his partner have raised a totally OK son that is straight, not counting all the gay people born to straight parents that turned out well.

I had a few great teachers throughout my academic career. One in particular, turned me around in the seventh grade. Another convinced me to earn a MBA with my leftover GI Bill.

Hate is an emotion that has a specific purpose. Hate's purpose is to dehumanize someone. If you truly understand another person's point of view, then it becomes difficult to actually "hate" them. You can think they are unintelligent or make poor choices, but you don't actually hate them. But hate is blind. It has to be to dehumanize someone who is basically the same as you are.

You look at any groups of people who "hate" each other (old style feuds, sports teams, ethnic groups, nationalities) and you almost always find that they are competing for resources. But, the more similar you are to each other, the more likely you are to compete for similar resources. So, "hate" is necessary to dehumanize groups you compete with because OTHERWISE you would have to acknowledge them as an actual human being and it would be difficult to do "what is necessary" to win (it is hard to be an ass to someone that you empathize with).

Muslims and Christians hate each other so much because they compete for the same resource (easily led, not too intelligent people to follow their religion). And that "hate" is so intense BECAUSE of how very much the same they are, not in spite of it.
