The Swedish campaigner travelled from New York so she could attend the United Nations (UN) climate summit, called COP25, which is taking place in Spain. Greta, who refuses to fly by plane because of the impact it has on the environment, had originally made the journey from the UK to the United States by boat to attend two climate change conferences.

Saint Greta of Thunberg has arrived!

And the people rejoiced!

Haven't any of these politicians and celebrity activists ever heard of this "new" technology called teleconferencing? Maybe Thunberg could mention it to this smug crowd of wealthy elitists and professional protesters. She must be getting tired of spending so much time on the open sea.

Of course, teleconferencing lacks the primary reason for these not-so-green shindigs, the ability to schmooze with the rich and famous over cocktails and caviar in luxury resorts.

I am jelly ... I've said this twice now, like SitzKrieg states she's doing something I would love to take the time off and do, one day soon I hope.

Just charter a crewed catamarn first for the experience if you haven't already before any serious cruises. An actual passage is something else. Night watch is an experience.

I've done short passages (3-4day) to Islands in Tahiti/Fiji, earned my ASA 108, ... but yes ---------- is fascinating, I just wonder how I will stand up for 20+ days of it :)

Trying to get Nulli out for a day sail :)

But thats all part of it, do hard things.

She escaped $*^^@ grabbing DOTARD because of her extreme lifestyle. It's very hard to get someone who won't go near an airport or train station. And safe from Putin too.... to mix polonium in tea, you need to find them first, then you need to invite them to tea and that is kinda hard when you are sailing all over the place.

Why doesnt she sail to the worst polluters and protest there? If she isnt going to China, India, Pakistan and the other crapholes of the world to wag her finger in their faces, I find her hypocritical.

She did that.

She went to the 2nd worst polluter in the history of the planet... USA.... (China is no.1) and protested there.

In China she would be "re-educated". In Russia, there is polonium tea. In India there is poo poo and more poo.. nobody wants to go there:

I am sure she will go to Japan but their English is terrible, so it might be a wasted effort.

No Tremain,

Unlike your home country, the U.S. is leading the world in cleaning up it's act. We barely produce anything that's harming the planet in today's terms.

Find a good mentor, or go race (race boats always need crew). I am lucky to live in the SFO bay area, great sailing, racing, massive currents, consistent winds.

I belong to SpinnakerSailing yacht club and they hire an ASA instructor to take us out on small boat advisory days, have club races on Merit25, teach spinnaker technique. See if they a club like that in your area.

Nothing like testing yourself with the wind blowing +25knots.

Wouldn't owning one of these Outremer 45's be nice, or better yet a real good friend :)

But Trump's golfing trips are fine with Nulli.

Yeah, we get other nations to pollute their skies and waters producing stuff to export to us. But then we are the largest producer of oil in the world and we get a great portion of it through fracking or offshore drilling, so there is that.

Indeed. I've never been on one but they look great. There are some yacht clubs here with Catalina fleets in the 20-30' range that would be good to join and practice with. I'm weirdly intrigued by Wharram cats. I could see myself building one. There's also a lot of foil boats appearing in places like Canyon Lake. iFlys, Nacras, Phantoms, etc.

Probably because she knows, as do you, that any legislation she gets passed in the House will be killed by the Senate. You know that as well as I do Nulli, why do you insist upon making a fool of yourself?

You're offended that on a thread about a newsworthy sailing trip a couple of guys made posts about sailing? Good grief. Get a life.

No kidding. The parents of this girl and any politician who is enabling her need to be put in jail. I understand being tired of being ignored but parading a young girl around as a novelty is sexist and goes against every human right the Left tries to champion.

For what, specifically?

parading a young girl around as a novelty is sexist

Seeing a girl as a "novelty" simply because she's a girl is the only sexism i'm seeing here.

You choose to believe that because you cannot imagine a teenager being intelligent or independent. Just like with Hogg, conservatives hold this patronizing view that anyone under the age of 40 must be stupid and being manipulated by "others". Probably a reflection of their own personality and gullibility (self selected... that is why so many conservatives are religious, because they want "others" to tell them what to think).

Ok, Boomer. Stop projecting your own faults and insecurities onto others.

Her saying she's "mad" would be threating violence if she could.

The way she glared at a sitting U.S. President indicates her inmaturity and childishness.

So what if you are mad, no one cares..

You elected a childish, immature conman President. He deserves to be treated in kind, and then some.

Seriously, how can even the most ardent Trump supporter not at least admit he acts like a middle school troll?
