Americans are united on this: They are sick and tired of being so divided. The divisive national debate over just about everything has convinced many that the country is heading in the wrong direction even as their own lives are going well, the inaugural Public Agenda/USA TODAY/Ipsos poll finds.

A good start to healing the divide would be for republicans to admit they need to impeach Trump. It would be a huge olive branch from them to the majority of Americans and the rest of the world.

#2,

That's right, QCP. The Democrats have nothing to do, right?

Thinking like yours is why we will continue to be divided.

The problem will not be resolved until there is a uniting crisis. The problem we have isn't that we have different opinions...it's that we believe the only way to reduce the divide and find common ground is for the other guy to see it "my way". This "no compromise" attitude is clearly evident within the "woke", who accept nothing less than complete agreement on every social issue. It's a dumpster fire, and social media and "news" outlets are there every second, fanning the flames.

QCP was kind enough to provide an excellent example of this in his post. It's not enough to agree Trump is a bully, non-presidential, and a social media trainwreck who needs to be a one-term President.. and coming together means seeing it his way.

The way for us to find common ground is for everyone to agree with me 100% on everything!!!

The problem is, people say they want compromise but then when a topic comes up, they only want things done their way. This isn't new. People have been saying this for years. But people rarely practice what they preach when it comes to politics.

#5 | Posted by humtake at 2019-12-05 12:10 PM | Reply

I agree with QCP in #1, it isnt that they need to bend over backwards and agree with everything the liberals/dems/whomever want, it is that they would not accept this bribery and obstruction from anyone except GOP. They need to step back and look at the entire picture instead of this one instance of Trump. They need to take off the blinders and pull their fingers out of their ears long enough to accept the testimony of those involved. If our current POTUS is allowed to stonewall and reduce the oversight abilities of congress then we will essentially move to a dictatorship. GOP needs to recognize that there wont always be a Republican in the White House and take measures to ensure our three branches of government are protected, otherwise they write a blank check for the next Dem POTUS. I believe in upholding our checks and balances system and I feel it is being torn apart right now.

And Boaz with his 'that thinking is what gets you divide, that is why Trump will win, blah blah BS...' is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. You are hurting yourself with your tantrum and cant even see it.

Once they passed the 2.5 trillion dollar tax cut for the 1% they lost the right to ever claim that they have actually tried to govern responsibly. If you liked Obama or not you just can't say the same about him. Both sides are not the same. Right wingers like to pretend they are because then they have an excuse for their own extremism.

#7 | Posted by danni at 2019-12-05 12:52 PM | Reply

Thanks, justagirl, I'm glad at least someone got my point. You other folks sure are inferring a lot that had nothing to do with my first post. If a one group wrongs another group one way they can move from contention to healing is by the offending party admitting they were at fault and making an attempt to correct that wrong. The republican party has clearly wronged our country by empowering and continuing to support Donald Trump. Show us you mean business by impeaching him and let's move forward.

The Democrat party has continually shown that they dont care about how people like me think or what we hold dear. They are moving VERY far to the left. Do you think that if they had the courts and the legislature, they wouldnt take a swipe at gun rights? If I knew they wouldnt try to ban weapons, or other wise attack some other position I hold dear, I might vote for one of today's democrats. But with the climate like it is, I would vote for Trump every time.

He broke the law. Plain and simple.

His own people are saying it. The people who gave him money and he appointed are saying it.

There is absolutely no evidence existing in the record to the contrary.

There is no common ground in excusing it, covering it up, and attacking witnesses.

You want Democrats to do something? Have them drop some of the charges and capitulate on some of the welfare issues. But don't ask Democrats to excuse illegal conduct and election meddling by the President.

The Democratic 'far left' made it possible for you to have the life you live. Without them you'd be working menial jobs, would never have risen in the ranks of the military, gotten a pension, a free college education, and your kids would attend sub par schools.

You're nothing but a f**king hypocrite who benefits from all you whine about.

And there you have it. This thread illustrates the problem.

Leftists insist the only path to unity is to agree with them.

I have come to the conclusion there can be no unity. Leftists hold people who do not believe as they do in contempt (deplorables).

Leftists have proven that they are willing to use force (lawful and unlawful) to harm those who will not comply.

The solution as I see it is for the groups to separate. Just as leftists have chosen to ignore certain laws (sanctuary cities, etc.) the deplorables need to create their own sanctuaries. Note, this is happening, cities are declaring themselves gun sanctuaries. Private schools and home schooling allow people to teach children their values rather than the states.

More of this will happen.

To the detriment of their own party.

--The Democratic 'far left' made it possible for you to have the life you live

LOL The left loves to take credit for things they never did.

AfricanAmericans (MLK, RosaParks, Farmer, MalcomX etal) themselves deserve credit for the civil rights movement.

For liberals to take credit is completely absurd, but not unexpected.

"Not without tolerance"... Leftist show every day that tolerance is not something they are capable of showing.

Again, I see separation as the answer.

#18 | Posted by sawdust at 2019-12-05 10:41 PM | Reply

If you want me to find common ground with republicans or conservatives, they have to start by acknowledging reality, facts and truth. There are no "alternative facts", there is objective reality. Global warming is real, the current occupant of the white house is an unfit conman criminal. There is a major problem with guns in our country. Healthcare needs to be fixed.

I am more than willing to compromise and find common solutions on many topics-abortion, guns, national security, immigration, but I cannot do that until the other side admits to reality, to facts. I can freely admit that there are valid opposing views on these and many topics and we as a nation can and should work on them.

But,

It seems to me that conservatives, once upon a time, were willing to work with and compromise on issues. I don't know when they changed, the 90's with Gingrich's strategy, during Bush the Lesser's time in office, when Obama was elected, I don't know. Using the ACA as an example, the Republicans refused any and all efforts to work with Democrats to build a workable solution. Instead we got an imperfect law that the Republicans have tried everything to dismantle. Meanwhile, we have no solution to the healthcare problem.

I'm sorry, while liberals and democrats share a part of the blame in the divide, when one side is more interested in power than reality or fighting an obviously corrupt president, I don't know where common ground can be found.

The totalitarian Left can't tolerate letting blue states be blue and red states be red. They want to impose their policies on everyone from Washington, DC. Otherwise we could peacefully separate.

She's a hack and a fearmonger, but if the Left can sweep, expect one-party rule like California for a long time. Once they grant amnesty and citizenship, it's ballgame over.

Hillary Clinton Cleared of Mishandling Classified Information After 3-Year Private Email Probe, Trump So Far Silent
10/19/2019

A major investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state found no evidence of deliberate mishandling of classified information.

The finding by the U.S. State Department, released on Friday by Republican Senator Chuck Grassley's office, follows a three-year investigation, for which Clinton handed over roughly 33,000 emails.

Assertions of wrongdoing had been a major cornerstone of President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign"with repeated chants and demands to "lock up crooked Hillary""however, Trump made no mention of the findings on Friday.

BTW, that "finding by the U.S. State Department" represents the Donald J. Trump U.S. State Department.

Oops.

Good things can happen when we find common ground.

Criminal Justice Reform including the First Step Act - benefitting many minorities not only to get out of prison but helping after incarceration

Farm Bill legalizing hemp

VA Mission Act - giving veterans choices in the private sector for medical care

These all happened with cooperation between both parties in congress and the president.
