Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Donald Trump's latest target for deregulation is Americans' toilets. The president on Friday said he ordered a federal review of water efficiency standards in bathroom fixtures and complained that "people are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times as opposed to once" in homes with low-flow appliances.

Anybody that eats like Trump does needs to flush 10-15 times. Did you see where he said new light bulbs make him look orange?

"The lightbulb " they got rid of the lightbulb that people got used to," Trump said, before ranting about how the more energy-efficient bulbs "doesn't make you look as good."

"Of course, being a vain person, that's very important to me. Gives you an orange look," Trump said. "I don't want an orange look " has anyone noticed that? So we'll have to change those bulbs in at least a couple of rooms where I am in the White House."

The president travels with a "special toilet" when traveling abroad to capture urine and feces. They could capture the waste and then have it chemically analyzed. Frankly if anything undisclosed (drugs, cancerous markers in feces, etc.) were found by foreign governments that would just give them more potential kompromat on Trump.

As weird as it sounds, it might make sense. The unknown-by-me would be how the surrounding fluid might contaminate or influence the analysis process.

Here's a short list of things that don't work as well because of government regulations.

Dish washers My new one (about 6mo old) works WAY better than my old one and uses less water.

Laundry soap Tide Free Pods in cold/cold cycle and I work construction with red clay no complaints.

Showers Ok you are big right on this one. Pop the flow restrictor disc out or if it won't pop out drill it out.

Toilets Never had much of an issue but at home my toilets are older than me and I try and avoid pooping in public.

Clothes washing machines My washing machine is from the mid 90's so no experience.

Clothes dryers Ditto above but I feel like you are pulling this out your backside as there is no technical reason for this to be true.

Faucets HUH? I have literally noticed no difference in faucets. A few buildings I have been in have some ridiculously low flow faucets but it is so rare I doubt government regulation is to blame but rather bean counters. Also regulation on faucets dates back to '94 so yeah BS.

Gas cans I have two old Jerrycans but a quick google confirms that this may in fact be the most hated regulation ever. However you can still use OSHA approved cans which are not quite as cumbersome but stupid expensive.

So of your list of 7 things 4 are non-issues 1 doesn't seem to be an issue (clothes dryers) but I could see how on the low end of product it could be and 2 (showers and gas cans) are huge issues.

#60 | Posted by TaoWarrior at 2019-12-08 04:58 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

In 2007, after the more stringent rules had kicked in, Consumer Reports noted that some top-loaders were leaving its test swatches "nearly as dirty as they were before washing." "For the first time in years," CR said, "we can't call any washer a Best Buy." Contrast that with the magazine's 1996 report that, "given warm enough water and a good detergent, any washing machine will get clothes clean." Those were the good old days."

Maybe the problems caused by government water and energy regulations have been fixed by now. I doubt if you would see any improvement if the New Green Nutzis led by Warren or Sanders take power.

Here's a short list of things that don't work as well because of government regulations.
Dish washers
Laundry soap
Showers
Toilets
Clothes washing machines
Clothes dryers
Faucets
Gas cans

Let me guess, you will be the first to complain when your utility bill doubles or triples?

Why does the government have to regulate the amount of energy the drying cycle of a dishwasher should use?
#76 | Posted by visitor_

Because the amount of energy used on the drying cycle of a dishwasher impacts society.

How much will it effect the temperature of the planet if I can dry my dishes 15 minutes quicker, I'm willing to pay for the electricity? It's mostly generated by bird macerators (wind turbines) in this county anyway.

So, you're blaming gov't for your landlord's schitty toilet?

That's f**king pathetic.

The low flows that will flush release a mist of fecal matter and bacteria. Thanks government.

You perfectly encapsulate the childish and selfish attitude of conservatives. Who cares if I waste energy and water?

Hahaha. my dad and a gas can.

He'll set any pile on fire no matter how high or in close proximity it is to anything.

I have the lowest flow toilet you can buy (0.75gpf), and i rarely if ever need to flush twice. The tech has gotten better in the last few yeRs.
But unlike Trump i'm not an obese KFC-eating slob, so YMMV.

Oh and speaking of toilets have you seen the ridiculously thin toilet paper that stores provide in their restrooms?? Just the tinyest bit of moister on a finger and it will go through the paper. Oh and the placement of the dispensers are horribly placed as well. Plus toilet stalls have shrunk in width too. Pisses me off.

"Plus toilet stalls have shrunk in width too."

Maybe you just got wider? :P

When I was an undergrad a story made the national news when guys in the mens dorm -- I think it was at Dartmouth -- spent their own money and replaced that tracing paper TP woth top tier, specifically to lure the gals from the women's dorm over.

Wide stance?

Whole new business exists selling old style gas can spouts online.

Who cares if I waste energy and water?

Good question. First, I don't consider it a waste to use energy to save time and effort.

Second, why do you care if I "waste" water and energy?

People do a lot of things I don't do or in ways I wouldn't. Can I call that "waste" and restrict it?

Trumplethinskin is so full of ----... 15 flushes... makes it seem like the toilet got off light.

#105 | Posted by RightisTrite at 2019-12-09 08:14 AM | Reply

We have one of those new fangled efficient toilets, works perfectly fine. Trump probably just produces larger volumes of crap than ordinary people and thus it doesn't work as well for him. Intake produces what comes out the other end, reduce the intake and you'll be able to use an efficient toilet successfully. If you don't then you'll probably suffer the consequences of obesity. When the President of the United States concerns themselves with efficient toilets we know we are in serious trouble. Can anyone imagine Barrack Obama complaining about toilets? How much farther can we descend into the world of Trump?

Modern society is essentially using energy to make life more convenient and prosperous. If you don't like it, go live in a cave, or at least turn off your energy-guzzling computer on the energy-guzzling internet.

#108 | Posted by nullifidian at 2019-12-09 09:12 AM | Reply

If you have an older home and a low flow refit, you may want to get into the habit of double and triple flushing any way because your pipes may clog. Just something government busybodies never considered while they were nanny-stating us.

My house was built 121 years ago. I flush my ultra low flow toilet one time with no issues. But my plumber isn't a moron.

I live on two acres where we get on average four feet of rain a year. That's well over a million gallons of water. Why should I or you care about how much water I use?

"Modern society is essentially using energy to make life more convenient and prosperous."

It's amazing how you think that comes at zero future cost.

Especially with all the tears you shed for your formerly idyllic, now overpopulated with brown people, -------- state of California.
