Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, December 06, 2019

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said in an interview released this week that the man who killed black parishoners at a church in her state "hijacked" the meaning of the Confederate battle flag for people who felt it meant "sacrifice and heritage." Haley, in an interview with conservative radio host Glenn Beck, revisited the conversation around her decision in 2015 to remove the Confederate battle flag from the South Carolina statehouse after the shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Haley was widely praised for removing the flag.

You can see it in her face. Many Aryans end up looking like cadavers as they approach 50.

Nikki Haley fires back at 'pure garbage' report misrepresenting what she said about the confederate flag

The misleading quote was put out by MMFA

Carlos Garcia

Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is swatting down a report misrepresenting comments she made about the confederate flag.

She retweeted a criticism calling the misrepresentation "pure garbage."

The misrepresentation was set off by a tweet from an employee of "Media Matters," a left-wing news propaganda association.

News services picked up the misleading framing of her sentence put forth by the MMFA researcher instead of the intended meaning of the full quote.

The quote came from an interview of Haley with Glenn Beck on his podcast. She was talking about how people reacted to the racist mass murder of African-Americans at a church in Charleston, South Carolina.

"Here is this guy that comes out with his manifesto, holding the Confederate flag, and had just hijacked everything that people thought of," Haley said in the interview.

"People saw it as service and sacrifice and heritage," she explained, "but once he did that, there was no way to overcome it."

Hey moron, the passage you quoted is the exact same one used in the story linked to above! Where is the supposed "misrepresentation"? There isn't any or you would have actually quoted Haley in backing up her claim. No one believes a word you say unless you show attribution for where it came from.

"This was one of the oldest African American churches -- these 12 people were amazing people, they loved their church, they loved their family, they loved their community," Haley replied, referring to nine people who Dylann Roof killed in June 2015. "And here is this guy that comes out with this manifesto, holding the Confederate flag and had just hijacked everything that people thought of (about the flag)."

"But you know people saw it as service, and sacrifice and heritage -- but once he did that, there was no way to overcome it."

The issue is that the people thinking the confederate flag (the flag of an enemy to the United States of America) is an actual symbol of "service, and sacrifice and heritage" completely ignore the post Civil War reclamation of the flag as a talisman of terror and overt racism against former African-American slaves.

She's spinning the same BS that traitors continue to bleat in disregard to what the Confederate leaders themselves proudly claimed that their flag represented as a racist symbol of white supremacy and claiming their biological superiority and God-given right to hold dominion over the black slaves. Look it up sometimes.

(T)he word "heritage" will be repeatedly invoked. It would be derelict to not examine the exact contents of that heritage.

...in this free government all white men are and of right ought to be entitled to equal civil and political rights; that the servitude of the African race, as existing in these States, is mutually beneficial to both bond and free, and is abundantly authorized and justified by the experience of mankind, and the revealed will of the Almighty Creator, as recognized by all Christian nations; while the destruction of the existing relations between the two races, as advocated by our sectional enemies, would bring inevitable calamities upon both and desolation upon the fifteen slave-holding states....
__________________________

We do not think that whites should be slaves either by law or necessity. Our slaves are black, of another and inferior race. The status in which we have placed them is an elevation. They are elevated from the condition in which God first created them, by being made our slaves. None of that race on the whole face of the globe can be compared with the slaves of the South. They are happy, content, unaspiring, and utterly incapable, from intellectual weakness, ever to give us any trouble by their aspirations.
__________________________

Among us the poor white laborer is respected as an equal. His family is treated with kindness, consideration and respect. He does not belong to the menial class. The negro is in no sense of the term his equal. He feels and knows this. He belongs to the only true aristocracy, the race of white men.

This is the service, sacrifice, and heritage" that Nikki Haley spoke of in the words of those who lived it.

Misrepresentation, my butt. Right there, just what you quoted, is indefensible. If Southerners remain too blind to reality to understand how offensive "sacrifice and heritage" are in the context of ownership of other human beings, then that's their problem. And clearly, your problem. The flag represents our nation's shame. F*** that sacrifice. F*** that heritage.

"Once the Confederacy was defeated, the flag did not reemerge in the South for several decades. It grew more popular in the 20th century, amid white Southern resistance to the the growing Civil Rights Movement and federally mandated desegregation. South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond's segregationist Dixicrat movement flew the Confederate flag, arguing it represented Southern history." time.com

This is interesting.

Virtually every community in Germany has some sort of war memorial for both of the world wars.

Do you, as Americans, see that as racist, or as some justification of the acts taken committed by National Socialists?

#31 | Posted by madbomber at 2019-12-08 09:00 AM | Reply

Germany has also outlawed the symbols used by the nazis outside the contexts of "art or science, research or teaching." That's why you don't see their morons marching with or displaying that crap like our morons here do.

#31 | POSTED BY MADBOMBER

The Confederate flag is not a "War Memorial"

Do Germans allow people to run around waving the Nazi flag?

Your analogy does not hold.

The Nazi past is not thought upon fondly even sometimes as we Americans tend to think of the rebel Confederates and the antebellum south.

#33 | Posted by donnerboy at 2019-12-08 09:56 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

I think another difference is that Americans accepted our confederate brothers back into the fold of society as long as they swore allegiance to the United States. Sometimes America even allowied them to keep their property and social status. I do not think Nazis were granted the same privileges. Waving the Confederates flag was considered an act of rebellion and rude but was not hateful. Waving the Nazi flag is a illegal in Germany. I looked it to be sure.

"And while Confederate statues can be found in many American cities south of the Mason-Dixon Line, there are no statues of Adolf Hitler or Joseph Goebbels gracing public squares in Berlin, let alone Nazi flags or other Nazi art. Public Nazi imagery was long ago destroyed, and swastikas were long since knocked off the walls of Nazi-era buildings. The only Nazi imagery you'll find is in exhibits devoted to understanding the horror of the period."

The Civil War is a wound on our souls. It takes decades or even centuries to heal from a civil war. Especially one as tragic as ours was. We were lucky to survive it. Which is why we honor Lincoln as almost a God. This President takes a sick Pleasure in picking at the scabs of this horrible war. He has broken open the wounds and has even drawn the blood of innocence. And blood continues to flow.

It's not rocket science. I agree with Eb. (It happens!)

It needs to end. We need to stop it before it can't be stopped. Again.

Trump is not going to stop. He thinks he is above the Law. So. He must be stopped. We need a do over.

Thank you Founding Fathers for giving us the warnings, the tools and guidance on how to do that.

I will never forget back in the early 2000's when I happened to be in N Carolina. On the local news was a story about the Confederate flag and the capitol building in S Carolina. There were all these protesters waving the rebel flag in support of keeping the flag at the building.

What burned several circuits out in my brain was the significant number of African Americans, of different ages, also waving the Confederate flag. I will never forget the feeling of WTF!?!?!?!?!?

I also noticed while driving the countryside out there that there were homes with the Confederate flag outside.... right next to the American flag. Again, WTF?!?!

Both of these things were in sharp contrast to my life experience and I wasn't sure how to process that.

Given that was a long time ago, I don't know that the same is true today, but it is still mind blowing to me, personally.

I just did a google search and came up with an interesting short video on CNN about a black student in S Carolina explaining his support of the Confederate flag. He seemed low-key and very respectful of different views of other people.

This post in NO way is an attempt to make people change their mind about anything, I just wanted to share something that to this day is mysterious to me.

Anyway, here's a link to the CNN video. (I found it and other interesting stories by searching "african americans in south carolina support rebel flag")
