A top Trump health appointee sought to have taxpayers reimburse her for the costs of jewelry, clothing and other possessions, including a $5,900 Ivanka Trump-brand pendant, that were stolen while in her luggage during a work-related trip, according to documents obtained by POLITICO.

Just how big of a ------- would you have to be to purchase crap made by Sweatshop Barbie's Chinese slaves?

"She can take a tax write-off same as the rest of us poppers."

Not anymore.

The Trump code made disaster losses non-deductible, unless they're FEMA-declared disasters.

Are you sure about that Danforth? What about on the state level?

Who leaves $47K worth of stuff unguarded in a car?

Sounds like a scam.

Or she's rich enough to not care which means she can afford the loss.

Seems reasonable.

I don't see why we should only show lieniancy towards perps

Ah yes, just because you have something people should be able to take it.

So why can't she take from taxpayers?

They have it don't they?

At least that's what I keep hearing

"The property was not insured, Verma wrote in her filing to the Health and Human Services department."

Tough.

She choose not to insure her property. Her job did not require her to take that property to work. Her loss.

Not the taxpayers problem. Her own insurance should consider the claim.

Not at all what I said.

Either be honest or STFU already.

Produce the receipts and we will talk then...
--A skeptical public

Since when is the US taxpayer an insurer of luggage for government operatives? Since when would some maroon travel around with jewelry of this value in her checked luggage? Since when would a government operative have jewelry valued at this level? How the hell much is this woman getting paid?

Wtf? So THIS is what it takes to get Liberals mad about the government misspending taxpayer money? Holy craptastic crapness. You ignore the billions of wasted taxpayer dollars on so many other things but $40k is just crossing the line, huh? I mean, it's true this is a stupid issue and the lady should be forced to spend every cent she's wasted on even asking for the payout but damn, take a freaking look at your priorities.

"but $40k is just crossing the line"

Well...tell us: should government workers be reimbursed for uninsured personal property, if they have it stolen while they're on the clock?

A simple yes or no will do.

Please keep in mind Trump just make that previously-deductible happenstance (as a "Casualty or Theft Loss") non-deductible for taxpayers.

We put somebody not competent enough to insure their jewelry in charge of Medicare? ... wow

"Wtf? So THIS is what it takes to get Liberals mad about the government misspending taxpayer money?"

Learn to read Boaz, the government didn't compensate her for the full amount, not even close, of her loss. The government, sensibly, reduced their responsibility to far less than her claim.

"Verma's claim also included about $2,000 to cover the cost of her stolen clothes and another $2,000 to cover the cost of other stolen goods, including a $325 claim for moisturizer and a $349 claim for noise-cancelling headphones."

GEt a grip on reality and exit your right wing world of hatred.
IMHO, the real outrage should result from the appointment of this woman to run Medicare and Medicaid, obviously unqualified and incapable of seeing the important issues she is responsible for.

She is qualified. She has a Masters degree and healthcare policy is her entire professional career.

The corruption is fairly run of the mill. Using government money on party-loyal consultants to boost her image. A swamp dweller.
