Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, December 09, 2019

Counsel for House Democrats, Barry Berke, said during his opening statement that "the scheme by President Trump" to withhold aid from Ukraine for political gain was "so brazen, so clear, supported by documents, actions, sworn testimony, uncontradicted, contemporaneous records, that it's hard to imagine that anybody could dispute those acts, let alone argue that conduct does not constitute an impeachable offense or offenses."

At some point Democrats will reach a fork in the road. They will either begin to move the needle with the public toward impeachment or they don't. If it's the latter, do the drop it and cut their losses or do they press forward anyway. If they press forward they should keep in mind that up to this point they've controlled the process. They've been on offense and a sycophantic press has been providing wall-to-wall coverage. The problem for them, at least as it stands right now, is that if they vote to impeach, the hand the ball to the GOP-controlled Senate which puts the GOP on offense.

yawn... Ever seen a political party commit suicide? It's a democratic first... every poll coming out now admits Americans are turning against impeachment and this is before they even find out how many hundreds of millions of dollars has been spent... that will come later...

As for me... I am all in on impeachment... the longer it can last, the bigger the 2020 Trump landslide will be...

So tune in, turn On, and vote Republican...

Doing the right thing is not always easy is it?

This is a Constitutional process and you have to follow the process where it leads you.

While I would love an impeachment by Christmas I agree Congress should slow It down now. Call every witness they want or need. Continue to press forward on subpoenas and court appeals. Repeat the charges and evidence over and over. If Trump continues to refuse to cooperate then let it drag on until he releases the documents and witnesses Congress needs to do its job.

But regardless of what the senate does Congress has no choice but to impeach this President. Well done republicans.

Papers please!!!

The illegal entry of non-nationals into the United States is a misdemeanor according to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965...

So basically crossing a border without documents is like misdemeanor speeding.

So ask for their "papers" Nazi Nulli and if they have none then give them a ticket!

Bribery and extortion are not misdemeanors. The Constitution provides an excellent solution for that level of corruption.

How about if Liz Warren asks Iran to hack into SA, and promises they will be "greatly rewarded" if they do?

All okay, going forward?

- everyone knows the only reason you are impeaching is because you are pissed you didnt win in '16.

What most Americans know, according to polls, is that Trump did what testimony shows he did and that what he did was wrong.

Saying that it is only partisan is a hollow Republican meme that doesn't hide the fact that Trump tried to profit himself by extorting dirt on a political opponent from an ally by withholding military aid while they were under attack from Russia.

He did that, it's impeachable, and Dems, who held out as long as they could because they didn't want it appear to be a partisan impeachment, would have rather just beaten him at the poll, but don't want to watch as Trump continues to use foreign powers to win elections.

Which is why they support Trump trying the undermine the election in 2020 and use his office to unfairly tilt it away from Democrats in 2020. 2018 showed them that they will not be able to win the election on their own merits, so they feel their only chance to win is to cheat.

Clearly the Senate GOP is not going to remove Trump after the House passes articles of impeachment, but lets say that they do and we have President Pence. There is absolutely no way Pence gets removed. He may not win re-election, but he wouldn't be removed. Why is the current GOP tying itself to Trump when it is clear he did what he is being accused of? They wouldnt be okay with a Dem doing it, and giving Trump a pass creates a precedent any Democrat can use later. Why is it worth creating the precedent that our POTUS is above congressional oversight just to keep Trump?

Because it's not that serious to warrant removal from office. Maybe censure, not removal.

They wouldnt be okay with a Dem doing it, and giving Trump a pass creates a precedent any Democrat can use later.

If the rules were reversed, you Dems would be doing the exact same things the Republicans are doing now.

how does that impact moderate voters? It's a vindication and proof that Trump never did anything wrong to his most ardent supporters.

but what about the moderates? How do they interpret this? after Trump is formally not removed by Senate vote.

It has to move forward at this point....there is no turning back otherwise it truly will be a victory for Trump....so it has to be carried out to a Senate vote.

It's funny how none of the DR wingnuts are willing to discuss the actual crimes committed by POTUS, and rather focus on the process, how boring the hearings are and why we all can't talk about something else besides the crimeing done by the president. Talk about boring..."He did nothing wrong, he said so." That's it, guess we should all just go home now. LOL. Even the allegedly "smart" DR wingnut righties here are mired in whatifs and whatabouts and conventional wisdom about yaddayaddayadda...they simply can't admit that their Orange Jesus on the mount of Repubican holiness is a crook and is desperately using their loyalty to keep on being a crook. Sad part about it, at least for me, is that Vladimir farging Putin gets the win here, and we all have to watch us losing what used to be cool about America, simply because of our stupid teammates who believe in Orange Jesus. Unfortunately, a large portion of Trump's base actually believes that this is what would happen if Trump is impeached and then convicted in the Senate. They believe this because of the claims made by the Right that the Democrats are trying to invalidate the 2016 election. In their minds, and Trump and Republicans have done nothing to refute this belief, this is what would happen, and that Hillary is the real instigator of this effort, as she sees it as a way of finally getting what she's always wanted, her sitting in the Oval Office.
