Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

It is with great sadness we have to announce that Marie Fredriksson of Roxette has passed away in the morning of December 9, following a 17-year long battle with cancer. Marie was born on the 30th of May 1958 in the south of Sweden, starting her musical career in nearby Halmstad where she became friends with future Roxette companion Per Gessle. Following a successful solo debut in 1984, Marie Fredriksson became one of Sweden's most loved and successful artists. In 1986 she teamed up with Per in Roxette with the ambition to reach outside Sweden, and together they started a historical journey that in the coming years would make them one of the biggest pop acts in the world.

How exasperating. I never liked Roxette, mainly pop rock in general, but that they are seductive foreigners crafting it so perfectly made immediately plain how I would be experiencing "goes lalalalala...she's got the look" for not only the rest of my days, but resonate in generations of horrible nostalgia soundtracks. She did fearlessly rock that kind of a Bowie the frosty snowman doo and stole clothes from Dave Gahans closet, so super hot, but if their name are a tribute to Roxy Music Brian Ferry wore it better, but Marie got all the looks. Now I can't get that song out of my head. [sad emoji]

Me neither.

And I made it worse by going to Youtube.

"But it's over now." Loved the music, loved her, I am saddened by her demise. What a trooper to fight cancer for so long. Every day it seems that another of my idols disappears, what a drag it is getting old.

This is how I first came to know of her.

And I have never regretted listening to that song.

Sad. They made fun music and that's about all we have left in common
