Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, December 18, 2019

The House of Representatives voted late Wednesday to impeach President Trump on charges that he abused his office and obstructed Congress, with Democrats declaring him a threat to the nation and branding an indelible mark on the most turbulent presidency of modern times. After 11 hours of fierce argument on the House floor between Democrats and Republicans over Trump's conduct with Ukraine, lawmakers voted almost entirely along party lines to impeach him. Trump becomes the third president in U.S. history to face trial in the Senate " a proceeding that will determine whether he is removed from office less than one year before he stands for reelection.

My congresswoman, Kendra Horn, announced she will vote for impeachment. Here in Okiehomie that is a huge political risk for a Dem. So what. Rather to be on the right side of history, standing against lawless, criminal behavior than aiding and abetting such behavior.

Trump will be acquitted, but the vote will be closer than many think. Being acquitted is not the same as being exonerated. From now until the day he leaves office, Trump may as well have a scarlet "C" embroidered on every article of clothing he wears. But unlike Hester Prynne, his sin will not be lessened. Trump's supporters will cower away from him with every belching diatribe that will come from his lips, from the end of the trial to election day...

Nope. As long as he is "pwning libs", they don't care about anything else. They only care about "winning", not how they get there. And "winning" doesn't mean actual accomplishments (since Trump has accomplished pretty much none), it means throwing gradeschool insults at the opposition and "getting them". Conservatives EXPECT their politicians to be corrupt. It is a feature, not a bug.

So, he will keep his conservative base of support regardless of what happens. The only hope for the rule of law in this country is that come election day liberals and independents (and maybe even some moderate conservatives who haven't lost all of their ethics and morality) vote out those corrupt losers who support and enable Trump's lawlessness.

Now it looks like the only thing keeping Trump out of the clink is the fact that hes president.

It won't be over after they vote.

Trump is not going to suddenly stop being corrupt. The Russians are not going to stop trying to interfere. You deplorables will not stop being deplorable. So we are not going to stop standing against this corrupt con man and we will be holding this President accountable for his actions.

Now Congress has no choice. It is their job to provide a check to this corrupt president. It is their most important and sacred duty to protect and defend the constitution. And Republicans will have to live with their vote after we all watch Trump do it over and over again and again. We can see how little they respect the law and the constitution.

Today justice will win. Today the constitution is winning. Sorry Cinrades. Our President does NOT have unlimited power.

We shall see how the Republicans cry as they try and defend the indefensible as they continue try to avoid justice as they put their party over country.

No matter how much you froth scream shout and bang your shoes on the tables.

It won't change the facts. This President thinks he is above the law. That he does not have to accountable to Congress.

Today Congress will prove him wrong.

Wow. You already Totally forgot how Republicans treated the last President.

They would have impeached Obama over the type of mustard he used. If they could have.

This is not about the kind of mustard Trump uses. It is about Trump's abuse of his office and obstruction of Congress. Extortion of a foreign government in order to get them to announce a fake investigation into your political opponents is clearly abuse of power. The exact thing impeachment was designed for. Trump set the impeachment trap and then jumped right into it.

Please pray for your President. He is gonna need it. And please pray for yourself.

You Both are mentally unstable and obviously need it.

Both Schiff and Pelosi REFUSED to impeach without an overwhelming reason to do so. This infuriated their base. Pelosi gave POTUS the benefit of the doubt while there were 17 different investigations going, many of which began while Repubicans were in the majority of the entire government.

Repubicans insisted that if there was ample evidence to impeach, Pelosi was abdicating her responsibility by not impeaching after the Mueller Report came out. She, and Schiff, held fast.

Today, the Democratic Party is impeaching the president. The evidence is overwhelming. It is overwhelming despite the White House and the Repubican Congress doing everything in their power to prevent witnesses and documents from seeing the light of day. Now, all the Repubicans have is made-up conspiracy theories, lies and a base so completely ignorant that it literally does not matter what the president does. He could rape a 4 year old on 5th Avenue and they would cheer him on.

Enjoy this historic day, Repubicans, you built this. Congratulations to you for believing this is an epic win. Those of us who actually care about America and not doing Russia's bidding aren't going to stop today, so we need you to keep living in your bubble as the grown ups continue to defend our Constitution against our foreign and domestic enemies. At that point it was apparent that Trump colluded with Russia. So it was about the "well being of the Country". For our founding fathers, foreign interference in domestic politics was one of their biggest concerns. You may think that is OK, but others think it is their patriotic DUTY to try to fight that interference and influence.

Though, Dems never said it was their "goal". On the other hand, McConnell DID state that his "goal" was to make Obama a one term president. Do you that that is also sad? Or maybe even sadder because it is demonstrably NOT about the "well being of the Country"?

Axios reports that "House Democratic leaders told caucus members not to cheer or applaud when today's impeachment vote totals are announced." One Democrat from a Trump district reported they were told, "Don't cheer, keep it solemn."

And that is exactly how the Democrats' public relations team at CNN described the events on Capitol Hill Wednesday. For starters, Nancy Pelosi is wearing black.

Article 1: Everyone can have guns with no regulation whatsoever

Article 2: The President can do whatever he wants

Article 3: Everyone else has to obey laws

Article 4: laws can't cost corporations or rich people any money

Article 5: poor people aren't poor enough and should be punished for being poor

#93 | POSTED BY JEFFJ

The focus group polling was done to identify the best way to explain impeachment to the ignorant people of America, especially those who watch OAN/Fox exclusively and are being bombarded daily by make-believe stories about Deep State Benghazi Pizza basements.

Kudos to the Repubicans for calling out how successful they have been in trying to convince their brain dead masses that there was no quid pro quo, mostly because that's a foreign language and most of Drumpf's followers only understand "American." Greater kudos to the Democrats for making it so simple, even a 3rd grader can understand it. If we've learned anything from the ACA, it's that most Americans really, really, really need for things to be dumbed down for them.

Just because the rwingers on this site aren't very bright, and can't see how obvious "what Drumpf was actually guilty of" doesn't mean that everyone living outside of the conservabubble can't. It's laughable how many of you are just going to tune in to New Pravda tonight to watch all the Repubicans selling out America and repeating the same lies and talking points over and over as though simply saying whatever crap they make up makes it true. Everyone else understands why this is a big deal, and even the MSM can't spin their story for them.

#109 | Posted by chuffy at 2019-12-18 04:34 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

Even if they decide not to formally "send" the Articles to the Semate, Dems need to be ready for McConnell to hold a trial for show anyway, and dare Dems to sue him over it (which courts would most certainly stay out of).

Republicans have probably been calling the impeachment proceedings a "sham" for so long because they intend to actually make them into a sham.

Two things will come out of this impeachment. It will be dead on arrival in the Senate. Hopefully for the Democrats sake they will not depose witnesses, the details would come out and show how fundamentally weak the case is. Cross examination and exculpatory evidence is karma of the most sever kind. Secondly the Democrats will lose their majority. Nancy's carrier is over. Speaker of one term at a time, and her leadership was nonexistent. Party discipline and goals beyond removing Trump did not exist. If she has a scrap of honer she would retire but even that is doubtful. She is no Sam Rayburn or Tip Oneal.
People are tired of this stuff, and promises of evidence or some bombshell revelation in testimony have been empty as a Democrat's promise. Maybe a couple of the loudest and most militant members should be expelled from the house, if they get reelected which is not a certainty at all. Say goodby AOC, Omar and maybe the embarrassment of Texas, Sheila Jackson-Lee.

Hahahaha

I love this take, it is my favorite from not-liberals. Impeachment Article 2 would not exist if the White House and Repubicans did not prevent witnesses from testifying in the hearings, so you're literally saying that the 4 dimensional chess here is that those witnesses have exculpatory evidence, but have chosen impeachment so that they can exonerate the president in a Senate trial, AFTER he has been impeached. That's...well, that's something. And Impeachment Article 1 would also be completely unnecessary if the fact witnesses who refused to appear simply answered questions, and if the supporting documents were released. Seriously, both Articles of Impeachment exist because your Party and the WH was either too stupid to make their case, or the more likely scenario, because Drumpf is guilty af. Your take is that this was intentional because it will all come out in the Senate? That's precious.

Repubicans keep saying that the House needs to stop impeaching the president and "get back to work for the American people."

Couple of things, Repubicans:

1) The House has passed around 400 bills, 270+ were bipartisan bills. 80% of them are sitting on McConnell's desk, collecting dust. Repubicans are liars, and their base is stupid for believing their lies.

2) A majority of the "American people" are in favor of the House efforts for impeachment. We won the popular vote in 2016, and we elected Democrats in an epic smackdown in 2018. The expectation was to "get back to work for the American people" by Democrats, which includes impeaching the mentally ill and poorly dressed orange man.

3) Just because "your side" is shouting, doesn't mean you have a louder voice in this.

Steve King Goes Full Steve King: Impeachment is Part of 'Massive Cover-Up' of Democratic Crimes

Aaaaaand not even Trump's own Roy Cohn, head of DOJ, will investigate these crimes.

What does that say about the DOJ? What does that say about Republicans who had full control of the government for two years with nothing but hollow accusations of criminal wrong doing against HRC, B. Hussein, and now Biden and the Dems as a whole?

All those crimes could have been dealt with, but Repubs sat on their hands, thinking just passing the tax break would take care of everything. Well it didn't. We STILL have criminal Democrats getting away with murder.

That's on Republicans. Now they bitch and whine about their own apathy? Only when Trump is being held accountable?

In case you missed it, she has been supported by Russian bots, Fox "news" and conservatives everywhere. She's the next Jill Stein. She already announced she would not run for re-election, and she insisted that she would remain a Democrat (until she predictably betrays the Party and our country, and becomes an Independent to act as a spoiler in the next campaign).

Good job Dems! You have now ruined the meaning of Impeachment just like you have ruined the meaning of gender and marriage. I hope you realize that you have now set the precedent that basically every future president will likely have a non-justified impeachment brought against them. So, don't whine when it is your guy because this is entirely your doing.

That must be because most Americans in polls agree with Dems that Trump should be impeached.

While you were in the military, Col, had you held up payment to a foreign gov until they did you a personal favor, you would have been court martialed.

Same goes for your CinC.

Pelosi is bringing in the race/gender card.

She says she wants the prosecutors from the House to be a mixture of people in gender and race. Nevermind if they are qualified to do this....

It is a 'body blow'? Is that why his approval rate is up 6 points since this nonsense started? Is that why he is polling higher than Obama did at this far into his first term? You had a slim chance of winning in 2020 before you kicked this nonsense off. Now, you have none. All you have done is solidified Trump's base behind him, driven independents from your party, and took all the wind/interest out of your 2020 presidential candidates. I think even you know this.

As to exoneration - yeah, that is the current plan from what I hear. Not only will they reject the articles - but they will submit to the trial ruling begin called an EXONERATION. It will be a stunning rebuke of the House. And again, this was all self-inflected. Nancy used to be smarter than this but Trump forced her hand with the "3rd Rate" politician line. Hilarious.

Actually, they don't think that at all. The most valid survey according to them, the NBC/WSJ poll has this split at 48%/48% - thereby disproving the 'most Americans' claim you make. Second, the poll over-sampled Dems by 4%. Correcting for this, it gives more than 50% disapproving of impeachment. But, your true learning experience will come with the 2020 election.

No, it is very cut and dry. The Dems for impeachment were for impeachment before the current Ukraine nonsense kicked off. Nothing has changed in that regard. What has changed is the turn off of independents and consolidating of support behind Trump. Those GOP thinking of sitting out 2020 are now more energized than ever. Meanwhile, the Dems have proven to voters that they get nothing accomplished outside of renaming Post Offices.

The notion of impeaching Trump but holding the articles in the House has gained traction among some of the political left as a way to potentially force Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, to conduct a trial on more favorable terms for Democrats. And if no agreement is reached, some have argued, the trial could be delayed indefinitely, denying Trump an expected acquittal.

The gambit has gained some traction inside the left wing of the House Democratic Caucus this week. Representative Earl Blumenauer, Democrat of Oregon, said Wednesday, as his colleagues debated the impeachment articles on the House floor, that he has spoken to three dozen Democratic lawmakers who expressed some level of enthusiasm for the idea of rounding out the record and spending the time to do this right.''

At a minimum, there ought to be an agreement about access to witnesses, rules of the game, timing,'' Blumenauer said of a Senate trial.

Another Democrat, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said there is serious concern about whether there will be a fair trial on the Senate side'' and acknowledged active talks about withholding the articles.

I thought the Dems couldn't be any more self-destructive - but they keep proving me wrong. If they withhold the AOI, they will outrage their progressive wing - who actually believe the American people support this nonsense - and it destroys any legitimacy of the center-left Dems. Good luck running on that. But please, keep dragging this out. Trump +6 already - hold out until election day and Trump might hit 60% approval.

I find it funny that the only action that the 2018 Congress will have to its name is a completely symbolic measure that will get tossed out of the Senate in record time - assuming it even makes it there.

I find that funny as the people most pining for impeachment are the ones that would benefit the most from Congress actually working to fix real world problems. Instead, they get a feel good moment rather than actual change but they are happier than pigs in schiff.

"Impeached!" ~ The word alone has far more serious consequences than just embarrassing Trump.

Especially in foreign policy, military contracts, trade deals, allies, NATO, troop movements and everything else that Donald Trump uses his influence to control.

Then there's Senate and House races, governors' races in red territory, down ballots, campaign contributions (PACs) and general uncertainty in America's business community. Then there's loss of loyalty as his cabinet starts to look out for #1 ~ themselves.

On a personal level, Trump has to be very worried about his "brand" and all those "pending" deals (Russia and Saudi Arabia) that he and Jared Kushner have lined up for when Trump is no longer in office. Or about the hotels and golf courses around the world that RIGHT NOW bear his name (now disgraced).

Anybody who thinks Trump isn't "worried" has mush for brains. Loss of influence equals loss of power and money ~ the two thing that he fears losing the most.

#308 | Posted by Twinpac at 2019-12-19 06:31 AM | Reply

If I was Trump I'd also be worried about Mar-A-Lego and the loss of a money stream as influence peddling wans among the movers and shakers who no longer haunt it's corridors and golf courses.

I'd also be worried that "impeached" attached to his name would unravel Mr. Putin's commitment to interference, as a black cloud hovers over the outcome of the 2020 election. Would Putin be dumb enough to throw good money after bad? I wouldn't.

Then there are those salivating New York District Attornies who are at this moment amassing charges for the day when President Donald Trump becomes Citizen Donald Trump. That's something else to be worried about.

Trump's putting on a good face but those thoughts he has when he's alone at night must one giant, screaming nightmare.

I'll repost this here because it's quite germane to what is happening now:

Nancy is putting her constitutional power on display by not threatening the Republicans in the Senate, but by telling them the factual truth - Until you tell me what the ground rules are going to be for the trial in the Senate, I cannot in good faith choose the specific managers that I need to send for the trial. Tell me the rules will be fair, or I will remain unable to make that decision and until I can, the Articles will remain unsent.

Quite frankly, this move should be called the Garland Maneuver henceforth and forevermore. Payback's a -------- named Nancy (only uttered in magnificent praise).

Your serve Mitch.

And for those slow on the uptake (or unable to mentally connect intrinsically-related things) my Garland Maneuver would be the intentional, passive refusal to take an action within American government that appears to be implicit in statutory intent, but isn't specifically codified in the law itself; thus making inaction permissible and beyond challenge by the Courts or the other branch of government.

#313 | Posted by tonyroma at 2019-12-19 07:41 AM | Reply

Come on people. Somewhere near 80% of these idiots in the House of Reps are lawyers. THEY all know that there is no reason to prosecute someone in a court of law when there is NO chance for conviction of their charges. Yet these highly educated imbeciles just spent the past three years wasting the taxpayers money trying to build their case to remove Pres Trump from office -- not through the election process, but through the IMPEACHMENT process.

Yet the facts are strongly against CONVICTING the President in the Senate. First the two charges of Impeachment are not over committing crimes but of doing something POLITOICAL controversial. Second, the IMPEACHMENT by the House was purely partisan. Dems favor - but not ALL. And not one Repub voted for it. Third, the Senate is controlled by the Repubs. Fourth, the 'trial' held in the Senate is controlled in a legal manner by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court - Justice Roberts - pretty much nullifying innuendos, hear-say, falsehoods, and the vast amount of political deceit included within the allegations against the President. Fifth, it will take 67 out of the 100 Senators to convict and remove the President.

It's pretty easy to predict the acquittal of Pres Trump.

The only question is will this be a swift and quick decision, OR, will this Impeachment trial drag on and on as the House Impeachment process did? No one knows. Pres Trump has made it clear he wants it to drag out so he can interrogate the people responsible for this Impeachment - like Schiff, the whistleblower, the Bidens, etc. Personally, I'm sick and tired of it -- end it quickly!!!

Playing chicken and being chicken are not the same thing.

Impeached!

It just rolls off the tongue.

Impeached!

Yeah. That's gotta sting a little.

Between now and November there will be 4 million young Americans who turn 18. How many of these post-impeachment-era young citizens, the peach pie kids, will be eagerly waiting to support right wing ideology?

They will eagerly vote for free college tuition. Bribery works. Democrats are counting on it to turn out young voters.

Depressing to see so many people who consider themselves patriotic Americans supporting an obvious shyster and psychopath like Trump. Our country is in such deep trouble.

Like promising subsidies to farmers.

Or promising more jobs in dying industries (coal).

That's the way politics works.

Apparently, you don't know that.

I suspect most undergraduate students' (~18-22 years of age) tuition is paid for by mom and dad. So for them college tuition is already "free."

Promising "free college tuition" would seem to be more directed at mom and dad and not 18-22 year olds.

Critical thinking isn't really high on nulli's list of things to do.

"Today, 70 percent of college students graduate with a significant amount of loans."

Oh, I'm sure Nulli knows that; so does everyone else except you and your looney base.

Democrats have spent the last 3 years pretending like every word uttered is to be dissected and turned over under the guise of "fact-checking" and compiling "lists of lies", then describing these events couched in political bluster, overblown alarmism, and exaggerated hysteria.

Hans and his limp friends have caused more #fakenews, chaos, confusion, panic, and manufactured rage than Trump ever could.

The sad part? All that effort could have been used to rebuild a party around solid policy and vision for the future. Instead, they've squandered their time playing political hack and exposed themselves for who they are: Nobodies and Do-nothings who would rather destroy America than govern from a position of strength and forward-thinking to unite Americans.

Democrats only unite under the banner of hate, fear, and rage.

As I've said many times, "free" college and student loan bailouts are a "get out the vote" campaign for young people and their parents, who would rather spend their money on a new Lexus or a vacation in the Bahamas rather than on absurdly high tuition charged by the college-industrial complex.

lmao @Dullsville... it's only bribery when Dems are helping college students; when Republicans are bribing their wealthy donor base with tax cuts, it's democracy.

No, that's Trump's modus operandi.

I don't care to parse the difference between bribery and democracy. The real difference is that the GOP isn't lying to their wealthy base when they make such promises.

The Dems are when it comes to promising free college.

A distinction without a difference to the point.

By my fun with math estimate, the Rs will lose at least one million voters over the next year due to old age.

Obama won the Presidency under the banner of "hope and change." You are a hack who hates Democrats, go play with the other haters. Every person on the debate stage last night is a better person than Donald Trump or George Bush. Or you.

I dunno the orange fat does a surprise visit to the presidential doc in the box a couple weeks ago. That "routine visit" seems to have knocked the wind out of his sails. He isn't playing golf and he talks about water pressure and dishwashers at his rallies plus he is stupid enough to get impeacheched... he still has a year to go on his first term.

Your credibility is losing wars so what would you know?

I think you still haven't gotten over Obama.

Where's that better plan? A government shut down away.?
