In one of the series of blatant lies the USA has told to justify the assassination of Soleimani, Mike Pompeo said that Soleimani was killed because he was planning "Imminent attacks" on US citizens. It is a careful choice of word. Pompeo is specifically referring to the Bethlehem Doctrine of Pre-Emptive Self Defence.

That is a great article Truthhurts, it say exactly what I was pretty sure was going on but with many more details and facts than I have in my head. Donald Trump has committed an illegal act specifically in an attempt to win reelection. Which mother in America wants to sacrifice her son for that? Or, in my case, my grandson. I don't want him going anywhere near a military recruiter.

I disagree with the author, who bases his argument on the assessment of imminent attack. He says "so you may be assassinated by a drone or bomb strike " and the doctrine was specifically developed to justify such strikes " because of "intelligence" you are engaged in a plot, when that intelligence neither says what the plot is nor when it might occur. Or even more tenuous, because there is intelligence you have engaged in a plot before, so it is reasonable to kill you in case you do so again."

Imminence be damned. During OIF, the Quds provided the Shia militias with something known as Explosively Formed Penetrators which were used to devastating effect as part of IEDs. We know this because we recovered a number of them, complete with manufacturing data. This was not being done without the direct approval of Suleimani.

Ummm EFP were Not from Iran

Enter Michael R. Gordon of the New York Times, who keeps pushing (without providing evidence) the Vice-Presidents propaganda that the new, improved EFP bombs must be coming from Iran.
For those who listen to Antiwar Radio, you know I refute this lie every single day, citing CSM and Reuters reports that an EFP factory was found in Iraq in April by troops during "Operation Black Eagle," according to Army Spokesman Lt. Col Scott Bleichwehl.

BTW what you are arguing, is the definition of extra legal murder, i.e. a death sentence for past crimes without trial.

The supposed crimes Sulamani is guilty of, in your argument, is that 15 years ago he supplied Iraqis with weapons. The Iraqis were fighting an aggressive attack on their country-by US.

Your argument proves the accuracy of the editorial.

Why was it illegal? Well obviously because the big bad orange man did it. Had it been Obama it would have been stroke of genius.

Trump wants a war and he has one.

The man feels like a genius at all times including tonight, when he's threatening both Iraq and Iran.

Obama embraced the US drone programme, overseeing more strikes in his first year than Bush carried out during his entire presidency. A total of 563 strikes, largely by drones, targeted Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen during Obama's two terms, compared to 57 strikes under Bush. Between 384 and 807 civilians were killed in those countries, according to reports logged by the Bureau.

EFP factory was found in Iraq in April

#5 | POSTED BY TRUTHHURTS AT 2020-01-05 06:45 PM | FLAG:

That's a stretch. It didn't come from Iran because it was found in Iraq. The rest of the details say IRAN, with a giant, Vegas style flashing LED sign.

The factory was in Sadr city, home of Muqtada Al Sadr's Madhi Army, an Iranian backed Shia militia. It was found in a joint operation against those Iranian backed Shia militias that were supplied by Iran. Quds force operatives were caught during the raids also. 3,000+ from the Madhi army fled to Iran to avoid the attacks.

Also, everybody keeps naming the Iranian general. Nobody has mentioned who died with him in the drone strike. The head of all the Shia militias that carried out EFP campaigns against US troops and later became our anti-ISIS ground troops.

i find that interesting. There was one poster on this site which even went as far as to say that the Iranian general was in Iraq to negotiate peace talks for Yemen. lol, doubt it if he was hanging with the Iraq militia leader who is credited with the US embassy attack.

From the cheap seats, it looked more like a meeting from joint war games. Russia-China-Iran drilled in the Gulf of Oman, while simultaneously their Iraqi shia militias moved on the US Embassy, and strikes on the Aleppo area intensified. Simultaneously, the US was countering by demonstrating an F-22/F-35 Elephant Walk that sortied 50+ aircraft. Trump shot a pair of hellfires into the middle of that...
