Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, January 07, 2020

Right off the bat, it's worth pausing to acknowledge an obvious truth: if the intelligence pointed to an "imminent" attack that could only be prevented by an airstrike targeting Soleimani, effectively leaving Trump with no other credible options, then top Pentagon officials wouldn't have been "stunned" by the president's decision. Indeed, they also wouldn't have presented Trump with such a radical move under the assumption that he wouldn't be so reckless as to actually choose it.

Everyone is giving far to much credit to IMPOTUS when they try to come up with reasons as to why he did this. He did it because that's what his gut said. Any attempt to follow his reasoning assumes that he thought out the decision in some way. There is no reason to think that is the case. Somebody made the mistake of mentioning that this could be done and he said "Cool! Do it!" End of process.

Bingo. A doofus who never reads and whose entire persona revolves around resentment and revenge is not making decisions based on the best interests of the nation or, even more so, the world. Life is a scorecard to Trump, a game to be won, and he's hoping nobody notices that he constantly cheats and makes up new rules. I don't trust a single thing he says.

Remember when obama sanctioned the killing of a US citizen terrorists with a drone strike?

Anwar al-Awlaki en.wikipedia.org

From the article:
"Al-Awlaki became the first U.S. citizen to be targeted and killed by a U.S. drone strike without the rights of due process being afforded.[12][13] President Barack Obama ordered the strike.[14] His son, Abdulrahman al-Awlaki (a 16-year-old U.S. citizen), was killed in a U.S. drone strike two weeks later.[15]"

obama bragged having a kill/hit list and okaying the hits.

Obama's Final Drone Strike Data www.cfr.org

Convenient how you lefties are so quiet about obama's previous actions, yet somehow President Trump's are 'terrible' in your eyes. As usual, the only standards libbies/progs have are double ones.

Yeah. And i remember thinking it was absolutely disgusting, dangerous and talking about that extensively.

Now instead of "whataboutobama" and pretending some anonymous online person's consistency matters, either defend Trump essentially starting a war or shut the ---- up.

Do you regard an attack on our embassy as an act of war? If no, how would you characterize said attack?

Thanks to Sniper to Assplain this into absurdity.
More on point:
I don't watch MSNBC, ever. However this article is entirely plausible; specially considering the lack of evidence and sidestepping by the SOS.

#15 I'm asking about a specific act.

The killing of this Salami guy was a response to the attack on our embassy.

My question isn't a set-up gotcha type question. I'm curious as to how Joe would characterize the Iranian attack on our embassy and I'm also curious if he thinks it warranted any kind of response.

I don't think you were posting on the DR when that happened. Most of the DR left cheered it. A small handful didn't. Moder8 set up a thread about it and was opposed to it.

I'll take you at your word that you opposed it at the time - you were probably still a Libertarian at that point in time anyway. ;-)

Donald Trump will never be described that way.

"The killing of this Salami guy was aresponseto the attack on our embassy."

It was?
Says who?

Also, in what manner was our embassy attacked, and by whom?

Is this like when Antifa attacks a Starbucks; a few broken windows? That's not enough to be an Act of War.

www.bbc.com

Protesters angered by recent US air strikes targeting an Iranian-backed Iraqi militia have attacked the American embassy compound in Baghdad.

US troops fired tear gas to disperse a crowd that got into a reception area in the compound, which is in the capital's heavily fortified Green Zone.

A guard post on the street nearby was also set alight.

US President Donald Trump blamed Iran for the attack, warning: "They will pay a very big price!"

"Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities," he wrote in a tweet. "This is not a warning, it is a threat. Happy New Year!"

President Obama was known to make mistakes. Donald Trump is a flat-out loser. You never get tired of comparing apples to lumps of coal, do you?

Your president, Donald Trump, promised to keep this country out of a new ME war.

You can lick his feet if you want. The rest of us will hold him to his promise.

#20 Snoofy,

I honestly didn't follow that attack closely at all. I was busy as hell with the holidays so I only saw the headlines. One of the headlines I saw was, "This is Trump's Benghazi" which caused me to assume the attack was serious.

I'm going to back off on this until I read up on the attack itself.

Thank you for prodding me on this one.

Snoofy,

I agree with you regarding how to characterize the attack - it was a violent protest with plenty of property damage but didn't rise to the level of being an act of war.

We killed Sulemani after the attack on our embassy

The attack on the embassy was in response to our bombing and killing 25 Iraqis and wounding 55 more

that attack was in retaliation for rocket and mortar attacks that killed one US contractor (different claims on responsibility for that attack-some say Iranian backed militia others say ISIS remnants)

That attack was in retaliation (if the militias did the attack) for our aid during Israel's bombing Iraqi militias since around last July

Now you know the rest of the story.

#30 | Posted by truthhurts at 2020-01-07 07:30 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

"I made a mistake and owned it"

Yes, good for that.

The damage is done.
Now it's an "attack."
For example Wikipedia has it as
2019"20 attack on the United States embassy in Baghdad
en.wikipedia.org"20_attack_on_the_United_States_embassy_in_Baghdad

In this attack, the attackers camped out in tents around the embassy for a few days, instead of getting gunned down by Marines defending an actual attack...

It became an attack after we killed Soleimani.

It used to be like this:
Demonstrators laying siege to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad began to disperse as security personnel fired tear gas Wednesday in the second day of unrest after U.S. airstrikes killed at least two dozen Iran-backed fighters in Iraq www.usatoday.com

#32 | Posted by snoofy at 2020-01-07 07:58 PM | Reply

There are several problems with this article.

First, intelligence would never present the president with "there is no other credible option."

Second, regardless of the available options, the author is assuming some knowledge as to why officials would be "stunned." Simply put, that is an indefensible position to take. I can think of other reasons they might claim to be "stunned," not the least of which would be the past 30 years of presidents who lack the resolve to actually do something like this in the face of Congressional opposition. "Officials" simply no longer expect a drastic move like this, despite Trump's track record of making these kind of moves and/or bluster.

Hey Wisegod, you wrote, "Maybe he should of sent cash. Sure worked for the Messiah.

Please send this information to your fellow neo cons so as to let them know they look like fools whenever they make that stupid ill-informed statement yet again in their endless sucking up to their god TRump and his family of grifters and con artists. Hey MSG, you wrote, "Convenient how you lefties are so quiet about obama's previous actions, yet somehow President Trump's are 'terrible' in your eyes. As usual, the only standards libbies/progs have are double ones." Most progressive liberals had been complaining and trying to get Obama to stop using drones to kill innocent people for the entire time he was in office. The main reason he took this path, was to appease war mongering chicken hawks like you. And yet here you are trying to use it as a deflection defense for Herr TRump and his nasty administration of KKK, NAZI, grifters and con artists from corporate bizarro world of scum.

Funny memory these neocons chicken hawk white wingers have. Benghazi!, Bagdad!....yet I never hear them squeal like the little piggies that they are with the words, "Remember 9-11!". You know the day your hero G. Bush Jr. let 3000 people die a violent death at the hands of his favorite buddies from Saudi Arabia? Why is that? Furthermore, you hicks were forever going on how we should just nuke New York City as it was a cesspool and yet when somebody actually blows part of it up you all wish to wage war until we run out of bombs. So, did you like what happened when Bush Cheney and Co let it go down or were you just full of ---- about wanting somebody to blow it up for all those decades. Which is it?
