Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

"Last week, the Trump Administration conducted a provocative and disproportionate military airstrike targeting high-level Iranian military officials. The Administration took this action without consulting Congress. This action endangered our servicemembers, diplomats and others by risking a serious escalation of tensions with Iran. Since then, the President has made clear that he does not have a coherent strategy to keep the American people safe, achieve de-escalation with Iran and ensure stability in the region. Members of Congress have serious, urgent concerns about the Administration's decision to engage in hostilities against Iran and about its lack of strategy moving forward. Our concerns were not addressed by the President's insufficient War Powers Act notification and by the Administration's briefing today. Today, to honor our duty to keep the American people safe, the House will move forward with a War Powers Resolution to limit the President's military actions regarding Iran. This resolution, which will be led by Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, will go to the Rules Committee this evening and will be brought to the Floor tomorrow.

I thought the impeachment circus was the house's (Pelosi's) biggest mistake in history, but, they keep outdoing themselves. Keep on keeping on....

Just another election-year political stunt.

It is a stunt, but withdrawing the Gulf War AUMF is long overdue. Congress liked having the deniability of having an open ended AUMF on the War on Terror, but in so doing they have abdicated their responsibility to authorize war in the first instance.

Once again, Nancy is on the right track but doesn't seem to want to do this correctly.

But, will it be binding or a gesture?

From the NYT: " Republicans say the proposal " a special type of resolution that does not get the president's signature " does not have the force of law. Democrats say that under the 1973 War Powers Act, it would be binding if also approved by the Senate. The matter has not been definitively decided by federal courts."

Since there's no reason to hope Donald Trump has given up hope of a war, anything that might slow him down is worthwhile.

People should know Trump's patterns by now. His rigid and somewhat uncanny teleprompter speech yesterday is what he does when he ----- his pants a little and is willing to listen when someone gives him a good talking to.

DONALD TRUMP DOESN'T LIKE THAT. It hurts his pride, both the sensation of fear and the idea he's being lectured and controlled. He ALWAYS comes back later with something worse, to show the world.

Donald Trump was promising another war, FISHPAW. This was like, forty-eight hours ago. You were cheering him on.

I'm not sure why you don't think the case for Trump's mental illness isn't proven by now. I guess your waiting for him to do something really insane, like assassinate the second most important man in Iran.

What is the reason to limit the scope of a resolution of this nature to Trump? I fully support Congress clawing back the power it has ceded to the executive. Make it non-partisan. Make it general and broad in scope. Don't specify actions with Iran, work to regain all the powers that Congress is supposed to have. One of the few things that I predicted that Trump's election could entail...which I thought every rational person could get behind...was that it could lead to the long overdue reduction in power of the Executive branch.

The man has clear patterns of behavior. I'll stand by all of the above and remind you of it when he does the next crazy thing.

You people willfully try not to understand Donald, don't you?

At this time of their presidencies, Trump's two predecessors had started wars in the Middle-East, he hasn't. The apocalyptic commentary these last few days has completely ignored Trump's famous reluctance to use force, especially for broad, value-based objectives.

Zed really doesn't have any credibility ..... but Zed wants WAR, he needs WAR ....

Zed is the embodiment of the Evil that is taking over our country.

He just made a serious effort to.

Too little too late from Democrats. They should have been pounding the table to limit this moron's war powers from day one. Waiting until after he does something crazy is an abdication of responsibility and puts any legitimate argument against the president having these powers on its back foot.

I find Trumpites as interesting and crazy as I find Trump. Indeed, there would be no crazy Trump if not for his crazy acolytes.

Donald Trump is what he is; he is exactly how he behaves.

Hiding from reality never stops it. Reality is funny that way.

I have to agree with this.

Any serious idea that Trump wasn't unhinged was shot down on his very first day on the job, when he hallucinated huge inauguration crowds and threw a hissy fit because he couldn't get others to share his delusion.

You had to love it yesterday when Trump said the Iranians "stood down". They just got through attawcking American bases, it was Donald Trump who stood down.

This is another pattern of behavior, twisting something personally shameful into some sort of victory.

Zed,

I see you are focused on trump and trumpites pretty intensely. Fine...it's how you roll.

But can you explain the oddity of what's going on right now?

The world is seemingly fine with Trump. Not just Trumpites.

You're preaching to us about "reality"...so let's talk about it.

Why is the world calm? Why is the world happy?

Since Trump was the republican nominee, what I feared most about him was related to this type of situation....a Middle East military escalation. Foreign policy in general...but specifically the Middle East.

But the world seems to be fine with what we've done there at this point and obviously speculation as to what might happen next is not very troubling.

If it were, the Dow would have dropped a ton....it's at an all time high right now. I would have never expected that after what's happened in the last week.

The world is seemingly fine with Trump. Not just Trumpites.

The world? That's quite the assertion. You know the world is okay with Trump? Did Fox News post some polls?

Why is the world calm? Why is the world happy?

Are you sure the world is calm and happy? Is that what you see from the front porch of your house in Kansas? The world?

What are you basing these statements on? A gut feeling?

the Dow would have dropped a ton....it's at an all time high right now.

I guess that's good for people who are able to participate. Mainly the rich.

Thankfully so. It probably the smartest decision he's made.

I can't explain the psychology of the Dow. It's taken me this long to start to explain the psychology of Trumpites.

From time to time large masses of humanity switch themselves onto a very dark place.

Carl Jung thought that the Nazis were channeling Odin.

I think the Republicans are channeling Loki.

#21 | Posted by Zed at 2020-01-09 11:29 AM | Reply

Beyond this, but no less dark, Republicans deal with Donald Trump with the same kind of denial many of them did their alcoholic, raging, and abusive fathers.

-Are you sure the world is calm and happy?

I'm not sure of anything...but the stock market, like it or not, is at least a partial thermometer of the world's temperature and how they feel about the future.

People with billions tied up in the middle east would be running like hell if they had any issues with what's going on.

They're not. If I had known on Jan 1 that we were going to do what we did with this Iranian guy then I would have sold everything and stayed in cash for a while.

It's an election year, impeachment proceedings, and now we are deploying troops to the ME. Uncertainty everywhere......or is it really a lot of uncertainty? The stock market says otherwise....that's my argument.

This is just me thinking out loud here, of sorts....that's all. I'm not saying anybody is wrong.

LOL yeah that was a devastating attack too ....

I saw on MSNBC 30 Americans were killed, and here on the DR people promoting that propaganda.

I also notice Zed and white nationalist Richard Spencer are saying the same thing .....

If we were in a full-blown state of war with Iran right now, as Trump promised we would be, you'd support it because it was Trump's war.

You, as far as I can tell, smell every fart Trump emits and call it wonderful.

so. Obama launched 400-500 drone strikes killing approx. 3000-4000 people (hundreds were civilians) and this is okay?
