Thousands of Virginia residents have shown up at meetings across the state to try to block Democrats from enacting new gun laws, with some gun rights supporters openly discussing violent resistance and civil war.

"Come and take them". As I remember the last revolution started when the legitimate government went out to confiscate weapons from it's subjects in accordance with the law. That was April 19, 1775. They didn't submit, they killed the bastards.

There are millions of guns out there. The government has absolutely no chance of getting people to agree to confiscation. I do not own a weapon and I still would never agree to people having to give up their guns. On the other hand, background checks for people just doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. It would seem only people who have something to hide are worried about background checks. Are gun owners simply not interested in keeping guns out of the hands of people who should not have them?

Well, the last successful one anyway.
Revolutions that fail, we've long since whiteashed our history of having to put down the Great Rebellion by calling it a Civil War.

Because. You know. There were good people on both sides of the Civil War. You can be a good person and want slavery, understand?

My Father was an avid hunter but died in a freak hunting accident. I was raised around guns and used to shoot cans with my .22 when I was a kid. I think training should be mandatory, along with permits and background checks. I also see no need for AR15-style assault weapons. They should be banned.

Actually there were good people on both sides of the Civil War. Many Confederate soldiers fought because they faced hanging if they refused. The rich plantation owners who actually owned slaves forced the poor whites to fight for them even though most of them never owned a slave in their life.

When you hear yahoos talking about Civil War it makes me suspect that much stronger gun control legislation is needed. When these guys think that it would be ok for them to shoot down citizens, soldiers or police because they lost an election then they need to be reined in and informed about what the "rule of law" means.

Don't states rights also apply to things the right opposes or only what they want? The majority of VA voters seem to want to crack down on the gunsters is that our right as a sovereign state or not?

I doubt any regulations will hamper the ability of citizens to get the weapons they desire for fun or for defense. These gentlemen need to address their concerns in the correct way and not resort to intimidation and violence.

If gun owners are threatening violence then even more reason to crack down on these lunatics and their deadly weapons.

I say go for it gun nuts. Use your guns to threaten others. I don't need a gun. We will just take yours if you choose the path of violence with it.

Bruce,

I worry the legalization of pot combined with the banning of guns may have consequences we're not considering.

The loss of revenue from selling pot will create a need for organized crime to find ways to make more money and the banning of guns will provide the impetus for an already existing market to grow to a much larger scale.

The banning of guns will institute a police state and will put more guns in the hands of the wrong people.

Will that be better than the problems we have today?

Surely we can find ways to address gun violence without removing guns from law abiding people.

It is just not on the Right, but I know many Democrats, Leftist, Anarchist who think these laws are BS and anti-constitutional. Of course they get drowned or shouted out.

I love the "Cops can have guns" but we can't mindset. Next time you have an emergency at your house, say a home invasion, please call the cops. They take on an average of 9-15 minutes getting there, and that is for "nice" neighborhoods. Most home invasions are done in under 2 minutes, with all of the attending damage done.

Of course going after long rifles that look scary makes sense, as more people are stabbed to death in this country than shot with rifles. Check the CDC report on violence if you don't believe me. The problem is deeper than the tool used. This is another bandaid that will do nothing to end violence.

Everyone has the right to self defense, and stripping the rights of the 99.999 percent of peaceful gun owners because the .001 percent hurt someone is ludicrous. Go ahead, throw your rights away for security. That ends well.

Instead of bashing each other for different views, perhaps try a respectful dialog and look for real actual solutions. Such a novel idea.

I was just covering a mistaken designation. Your introduction of the 74 takes the discussion to another area.
For instance;
AK-74 Assault Rifle: 5 Facts You Need to Know
Russia's military may no longer be using it, but the AK-74 serves a curious purpose elsewhere in contemporary Russian society: schools. It was mandatory for many Soviet schoolchildren to fieldstrip and assemble AK-74's within a certain timespan

Don't think students being taught to fieldstrip is what Twin had in mind.

I have an AK-47 and several AR's. Out of the dozen or so semi auto "assault rifles" I have, my Dragunov in 7.62x54R is my favorite. Cheap surplus ammo. I probably have about 4,000 of it and about 4,000 reloadable empty cartridges.
Luckily, I live in the free state of Arizona where private firearm rights are enshrined in the state constitution in unambiguous terms.
If we keep getting infested with leftists escaping their utopian crap holes while importing their ideology, we could eventually see the same thing here.

your average semi-automatic is a terrible home defense weapon. Better something like a judge or governor loaded with .410. And it's not going to pass into your neighbors house if you miss. A .223 or .308 will.

But they are great if needed for war. For militia members. Which is why we have a 2nd amendment.

How come guns were regulated even on the frontier in the 19th century. And we had strong gun laws in many states until recently? What magic right to unlimited gun ownership did the SCOTUS pull out of it's collective ass in modern times. The right constantly and in my opinion correctly bitches about nationally legal abortion. For the left guns are a similar feeling of non representation by the gov.
