What a turd. He's doing this because if Bolton were to testify truthfully, he would corroborate Fiona Hall's first hand testimony about Trump's "drug deal", as Bolton called it.

How strange to stop the testimony that would prove him innocent.

A question for our resident DR lawyers: is anything stopping Bolton from going on Chris Wallace's show and spilling his guts?

Sales for his upcoming book, said to be released sometime before the November election.

Which may be the reason he didn't testify to the House committees, who issues subpoenas that he went to court to fight. Republican Senate would be friendlier territory. He doesn't want to hurt his book sales or standing in Republican circles.

Bolton can ignore Trump. He is no longer working for his admin.

If you actually thought Bolton was gonna testify - I feel bad for you.

Seriously.

Totally an act of the innocent.

If anybody thinks both of them (Trump/Bolton) aren't watching the head count of defectors in the Senate who WANT witnesses, I feel bad for you.

Seriously.

lol - Trump won't have to block Bolton Testimony. Moscow Mitch will assuredly have a witnessless trial if at all possible.

John Bolton should be in prison five times over.

BEN BERKKAKE

"John Bolton should be in prison five times over."

Why?

All he did was lose a turf war with Pompeo and got fired ~ which was probably a blessing in disguise.

An innocent person shouldn't have to have witnesses in his defense.

"for the sake of the office"

Does anyone actually believe Donald Trump would ever do anything "for the sake of the office?"
If so, I have some land a bit west of here which would make a lovely housing development.

I am very suspicious of Bolton's testimony.

I definitely would not rely on him to make my case.

But, he could open the door to other witnesses with direct knowledge of Trump's crimes.

#15 | Posted by donnerboy at 2020-01-11 12:20 PM | Reply

Evidence is supposed to be gathered before the trial. In other words, a trial is not a fishing expedition for other "crimes".

#16 | Posted by visitor_ at 2020-01-11 01:30 PM | Reply

A trial is a finding of fact. Witnesses are essential to that. If Trump is innocent why does he fear witnesses that could damage his case so much? Maybe he is not really so innocent. At all.

Sure if you want to call witnesses that have factual first hand knowledge, but the only reason that Bolton is wanted is to fish for more "crimes".

"We appreciate Mr. Bolton willingness to cooperate but his testimony will not be necessary because there was no underlying crime."

Those may not be his exact words but itll be something along those lines.

Bolton wants to keep his name in the news cycle til his book drops later this year.

That's the only reason for this charade.

Behavior of the guilty.

The House really stepped on their jocks over Bolton. They should have issued a subpoena for him to testify. If the Executive claimed Executive privilege they should have went to court. Yeah, that would have taken 2 or 3 months but I believe the court would have ruled in their favor (just as it did with several witnesses during the Clinton impeachment) and they could have compelled testimony. Now, they give it to the GOP-controlled Senate where McConnell can make the case that the Senate's job is to hear only what the House presents to them, which would exclude any potential witnesses that did not appear before the House.

I hope people see the irony in this threat. Trump, being impeached, in part, for Obstruction of Congress, threatens to prevent people from testifying before Congress.
