Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said he "didn't see" specific evidence that top Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani was planning attacks on four U.S. embassies, but said he believed such attacks would have occurred.

"I didn't see one with regard to four embassies," Mr. Esper said on CBS's "Face the Nation." But he added: "I share the president's view that probably - my expectation was they were going to go after our embassies. The embassies are the most prominent display of American presence in a country."

The muddled message on Sunday by Mr. Esper and other administration officials only added to the public debate regarding the Jan. 3 strike that killed Iran's most important general, Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, and whether there was appropriate justification for the killing. The administration has offered shifting justifications for the strike.

Well, that certainly clears things up....

LOL, swing and a miss TerhanT

Of course he didn't .... he also missed Iranians storming the Iraq embassy.

I was in the classified briefing too. Credible intel that Soleimani was actively planning multiple deadly attacks against US serviceman & civilians in the Middle East in a matter of days...that's pretty damn imminent. If you didn't hate Trump so much, this would be easy to admit.

Senator Mike Lee of Utah, one of the administration's most outspoken Republican critics in the aftermath of the strike, said on CNN on Sunday that he was "worried" about the quality of the information that national security officials were sharing with Congress and had not "been able to yet ascertain specific details of the imminence of the attack."

"I believe that the briefers and the president believed that they had a basis for concluding that there was an imminent attack, I don't doubt that, but it is frustrating to be told that and not get the details behind it," he said.

Asked specifically whether administration officials had briefed Congress on Iranian threats to four American embassies, as they have subsequently claimed, Mr. Lee said he did not believe so.

"I didn't hear anything about that," he said. "Several of my colleagues have said the same. So, that was news to me, and it is certainly not something that I recall being raised in the classified briefing."

Guess Sen. Lee hates Trump according to Sen. Cruz. And Trump's own SecDef (who was in the decision making process) didn't see evidence and missed "Iraqis" (not Iranians, you boneheaded twit) storming the Baghdad embassy so do you think Trump should've fired him instead of trotting him out for Sunday shows?

Yet again, you make the brain-dead appear to be geniuses Mortibund Mattress. Go take your belated dirt nap fool. There are hungry worms waiting for your useless carcass.

Apparently, from Trump's point of view, the Secretary of Defense did not have a 'need to know', unlike Lindsey Graham and the other people Trump was playing golf with down in Florida that weekend.

Esper is kinda new to this "take a bullet for Trump" game. Trump doesn't trust anybody 100% until they perfect the art of lying on que ~ even if it means looking like a total fool . . . or worse yet, an idiot.

Lindsay Graham, on the other hand, is an old master at both.

Hard to see something that is not there.

There was no immediate or imminent threat.

Just saying that there was an "imminent threat" over and means bupkis.

So what? Trump is obviously rope-a-doping you guys on this. Focus, fools. Unless you actually think he'll be impeached for this, why are you helping to distract from the thing he's already been impeached for?

Title is incorrect.

He should be impeached again for this.He should also be removed from office as a war criminal. He can't pardon himself. Why is America so bloodthirsty? Why do so few people ever consider the morality of military force? Why is projecting our collective will on other nation's so damn satisfying to so many?

What a shock, BLOTUS (Biggest Liar of the United States) lied again, and this time it's a lie of tremendous consequence. Diaper Donnie is now a war criminal, just like Bush and Cheney. Seems to be a pattern among Gross Old Pedophiles.

Oh and Mattress, it's obvious that spineless weasel Ted Cruz was lying for Drumpf. I don't think his presidential aspirations are over. Considering that NOBODY else at that briefing has been willing to say that they saw credible intel, and Lee said exactly the opposite.

So we took out someone that was a threat and who Obama himself labeled a terrorist. We didn't have any casualties and the retaliation strike was completely unsuccesful. The only ones who disagree are the ones who listen to Iran State news which I guess are the majority posters on this thread.

"So we took out someone that was a threat and who Obama himself labeled a terrorist."

He wasn't a threat and Obama is a terrorist himself, albeit a cozy and likable one.

In fact, Iran is not a threat to America at all. They are only a threat to Israel. And Israel is the greatest threat to Amercia because of the amount of charity this country has given it over the past 70 years, and will continue to give it in the foreseeable future. We continue to protect the rapist by doing the raping for them.

If we had left Iran alone, they would be a stable and moderate state much like Turkey and they'd be an ally.

This sort of stuff had some effect in 2003. Now it's just old and very, very tired.

Has something to do with so few people trusting Trump or even seeing him as loyal to his country.

"your statement is ignoring the struggle between the two major denominations within Islam""

My statement does nothing of the sort. I am fully aware of the differences between Shia and Sunni, very much like the paradigm of antagonism between Hindu and Muslim in India/Pakistan, but they still manage to live together in relative peace.

Trump is on a mission to destroy every signature achievement of the Obama Administration.

Yes, he's THAT sick in the head. And no, he'll never be the man Obama is . . . not now, not ever.

And it's eating him alive, from the inside out.

Trump is like Israel-- he has a great number of people bamboozled into thinking he is somehow of an indispensable benefit to America.

His policy of destroying all that the previous administration created hearkens back to the massive book incinerations and cultural destruction of the Nazi party during the 30s.

Esper's mixed message is clearly the result of having to cover for a liar/embellisher: namely Trump. Obviously the embassies were not targeted, or that would have been simply said at the security meeting with the Senate.

Then Trump presents his bizzaro opinion and people need to start covering for him...............

Why any person would want to work for him is unknown. He ruins careers.
