The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) named Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island in New York as the site for building an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a one-of-a-kind nuclear physics research facility. This announcement, following DOE's approval of "mission need" (known as Critical Decision 0) on December 19, 2019, enables work to begin on R&D and the conceptual design for this next-generation collider at Brookhaven Lab. "The EIC promises to keep America in the forefront of nuclear physics research and particle accelerator technology, critical components of overall U.S. leadership in science," said U.S. Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette. "This facility will deepen our understanding of nature and is expected to be the source of insights ultimately leading to new technology and innovation. America is in the golden age of innovation, and we are eager to take this next step with EIC. The EIC will not only ensure U.S. leadership in nuclear physics, but the technology developed for EIC will also support potential tremendous breakthroughs impacting human health, national competitiveness, and national security," said Under Secretary for Science Paul Dabbar. "We look forward to our continued world-leading scientific discoveries in conjunction with our international partners."

As Charles Laughton said, while playing Henry VIII opining on refinement, time travel is a thing of the past.

Is it going to be built on land owned by the Trump family?

CraZED is absolutely psychotic about Trump. He'll have to be watched carefully if Trump wins in November.

Wow! Now we can understand everything.

Almost moved to a town about ten minutes from BHNL.

Would have been cool to see this happen.

If you want to raise interest lead with something like: "If we do tear a hole in reality, we have no idea how to fix it."

Remember what the "Face on Mars" did for Mars explanation? And it was found in archives. Of course.

Why don't they kick out the mushroom farmers and use the ring dug around Waxahachie from the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) that Clinton shut down after being half built? Seems it could save some money.

First rule in government spending: Why build one when you can have two for twice the price?

Good. The original Large ------ Collider left me wanting more.

Exactly what I was thinking... folks here still talking about it... like it's coming back one day...

The round hole was filled with water and supplies it to the rest of the town...

Most farmers would have just dug a straight hole to make a well...

But you know democrats... they gotta be fancy...

So the conversion to a mushroom farm isn't true?

Do you live in Waxahachie, Pegasus?

I hear that porky is insisting that the whole apparatus be converted to steam power (like the aircraft carrier catapults.

"I thought about whether or not I should say this. But it was a fact: The people in charge of the project"the laboratory people, the scientists"they were a bit too arrogant toward Congress. They sort of treated them as if they didn't understand what the physicists were trying to do"a sort of why-are-you-standing-in-my-way attitude. You don't insult people you're begging for money," he said. "Scientists are brilliant people, but they're not salesman."

While, I do spend a lot of time there... I am after all a flying horse... I spend some of my time in DC spreading my droppings...

Folks here still think it could come back... Local grade school still having kids write letters to Congress and Trump to reconsider bringing it back...

Nothing has changed much. It could easily be built today. Having 2 inter-coordinated SSC's would allow scientists to experiment with entanglement and micro-gravity wave detection.and even possibly communications using Nuetrino's and other high energy particles.

Impossible??... well yea, if you only have one can and a string....

You need 2...
