O'Brien expressed cautious optimism about the fact that Kim hasn't yet delivered his promised "Christmas gift" that many expected to be a nuclear weapons test, Axios said.

Jabba the Orange wants his Nobel for one thing or another--placating a short, fat killer, killing Iran's #2, caging children, denying healthcare to millions, weather reportage, golf, mass communications or even consorting with two Corinthian guys. Anything. Anything at all...

It is counter productive to conduct meetings when it is obvious to anyone with more than two operating brain cells that Kim ain't giving up his nukes.
Probably a better strategy would be to flood N. Korea with pictures of delicious food and the slogan: "kill Kim and you'll like what's for dinner."
We shouldn't be negotiating with this tyrant, we should be undermining him at every turn, every opportunity to encourage a revolt should be taken. WE should turn some members of their armed forces against him, provoke a coup. Where is our CIA? They're so good at causing revolutions in Latin America why not N. Korea?

Because that has worked SOOOOOO well with other countries in the past, right?

America likes to conjure up all its enemies as 30 foot tall monsters with big sharp teeth and rattly claws, waiting patiently under the bridge to blow our peaceable, Jesus loving nation to kingdom-come.

Reality doesn't quite jive with that. North Korea is extraordinarily WEAK, and being weak, they should be dealt with, not by applying pressure, but by allowing them to decompress, slowly and stably.

Condition cutting American forces on the Northern border of South Korea in half by asking NK to allow the Russians and the Chinese to deploy a preset number of troops to the country's southern border.

Then slowly draw down both sides over the period of several years.

No coup. No instability. No war.

#4,

Danni, I dont ever want to hear you talk of the U.S. "meddling" in the Middle East ever again.

If he does manage to negotiate some kind of deal be damn sure to have it ratified by the Senate.

W backed out of the deal Clinton/Carter negotiated with N Korea just as Trump did with Iran. Granted, both were crappy appeasement deals but that's beside the point. Any deal not ratified by the Senate won't be binding to future presidents.
