The US drone strike that took out Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad International Airport heightened international tensions across the Middle East and for a few days brought the world close to war. But President Donald Trump's decision to assassinate Soleimani pleased at least one player on the world stage. Terror group ISIS has expressed its delight at Soleimani's death in an article printed in Islamic State's weekly newspaper Al-Naba " calling the killing an "act of God." Another article in Al-Naba this week reports on the US and its allies suspending operations against ISIS. According to the official ISIS newspaper, this represents an opportunity for the terror group to claw back some of the territory it has lost over the past year. US forces have lost the freedom they had to operate in the Middle East before Soleimani's death.
