Tuesday, January 14, 2020

A conservative group says removing names is merely following existing rules. Liberals say the move is aimed at dropping Democrats before the 2020 election.

Now do Democrats, since Judge Malloy was appointed to the Circuit Court by Jim Doyle (D), the newly elected Governor of Wisconsin in late 2002.

#4 Bzzzt. Doyle (D) didn't take office until January 6, 2003. His predecessor, Scott McCallum (R) was governor when Judge Malloy was appointed in 2002.

I stand corrected, you are right, he was re-elected in 2003 during the Boyle administration but received an interim appointment in 2002 from interim Governor McCallum.

That being said, he has been consistently re-elected since 2003, the WI Supreme Court declined to take the case (Conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn joined the court's two liberals, Justice Ann Walsh Bradley and Rebecca Dallet, in saying the high court shouldn't take the case) and the 4th Circuit won't take it up before the Feb. primaries, so Malloy's order accelerating the Wisconsin Election Board's decision to remove these voters stands until the 4th Circuit acts.

Doesn't make your post any less wrong, and you of all people should know how rare it is for an incumbent judge to even be opposed, much less lose, in a re-election campaign.

He was appointed to an overwhelmingly Republican County by a Republican governor. Not a surprise he'd be re-elected and that does nothing to help your "point."

Didn't the WI Ct of Appeals put a hold on this order?

It happens a lot more than you would think here in California, I have 3 friends who beat incumbents to take the bench in the Superior Court.

As to my point, it stands: this is only about acceleration of the removal of the voters from the rolls before the law requires it in 2021, and the appeal does not go to the substance of the law but its timing.

If you bothered to read about the law's implementation, you would see that anyone in WI who thinks they have been dropped can go on the internet, call the Election Commission or, gasp, show up on Election Day and register to vote that day in WI. That way, no one is disenfranchised by this law.

That only became your "point" after your original post was proven to be wrong. Pivot to something correct all you want; it doesn't make your original post less wrong.

You really can't handle being wrong, ever, it's unseemly for a grown man to be unable to lick his wounds and move on.

Voting in Wisconsin is fairly painless if you're registered. If you cannot get your act together to register to vote, and also determine your place to vote, perhaps you ought not be voting.

In Wisconsin, the battle lines of voting are already drawn. Republicans and Democrats will likely not be changing their votes. The key to the election will be getting all the people who either chose to not vote because Bernie wasn't the candidate, or who didn't care about the outcome; and here we are.

I know that, dumbass, i live here. The issue in my opinion is that some people who are unaware they've been removed are not going to show up on election day carrying the necessary documents to re-register to vote, and they may have time constraints or physical limitations that prevent them from making another trip home and another trip to the polling place and another stand around in line.

You may say - those people should know better and look up their registration ahead of time. To which i say - "knowing better" isn't a prerequisite to exercising your right to vote, and i give you Donald Trump as Exhibit A.

The dishonesty of all politicians was to argue that any federal policies are going to prevent further consolidation of the dairy industry. Whether it happens all at once or drawn out over a couple of decades, the writing is on the wall. Time for small dairy farmers, and certainly their children, to think about different directions for the future.

Single payer can be funded for no more, and likely far less, than what we currently spend on all the forms of health insurance in America, wouldn't you agree?

"Single payer can be funded for no more, and likely far less, than what we currently spend on all the forms of health insurance in America, wouldn't you agree?"

Maybe...but not without a decline in quality for those who already have care.

SO you'd basically be demanding that those who are happy with their healthcare abandon it, with no change in cost, for a lower quality product.

Do you think they'll got for it?

And planning on funding by raising taxes on the rich assumes that they won't alter their financial behavior as a result in the tax code. It's critical to remember that everyone, including the rich, have a say in whether or not they earn an income, which is necessary for the collection of income taxes, as well as what they do with that earned income. It's even more true with accumulated wealth sitting in an account somewhere.

Ultimately, the government can take it all if they want...the Bolsheviks proved that. But going that route would only serve to validate the misgivings that many have regarding socialism.

Thanks for your input Ayn Rand but we'll go ahead and base our decisions on the liklihood that they will still want to earn money as they did when FDR raised taxes all the way to 90% on marinal tax income.

You mean back during an economic crisis followed by a two-front war against technologically superior enemies? I think one's willingness to pay taxes might correlate to the importance of those taxes towards survival of the nation. If FDR had raised taxes to provide more free stuff, I doubt the taxpayers would have been as willing to pay.

BUT the bigger question, would those higher tax rates be accompanied by the equally expansive list of deductions?

If so, you might actually find wealthy people supporting a tax increase.

Social Security wasn't free stuff when considering the fact that the first recipients never paid in a dime to SS. Us Boomers did though, we paid double deductions since Reagan convinced us to pay for our parents and pre-fund our own retirements. Not saying he was wrong either, I'm glad we did that but the fact that we did sort of indicates that we really haven't been looking for free stuff all these years. Most of us just want to leave our kids and grandkids a more liveable world and it has become harder and harder for younger generations to get ahead in recent decades and student loans are a part of that problem.

That has been how our tax code has worked since 1932, I would assume it would still be that way. It would be foolish to do it any other way.
