Trump's the one who brought it up in the first place. He's the one hung up on exaggerated displays of patriotism, to compensate for his inability to serve his country during his debilitating bone-spur era.

We should have a fireworks ceremony when that Anti-American POS known as Benedict Donald is removed from office via impeachment or the ballot box.

I know President P.O.S. wants to commandeer a whole new mountain for his own face carving at Mt. Rushmore. That's been on his bucket list for a long time.

However, I've been wondering about a Presidential Library for an impeached and convicted P.O.S. President.

Does anybody think he'll try that?

Will his presidential library be on a rolling cart in a minimum security facility?

Probably. He'll have to go someplace where he won't run into his former friends with skidmarks on their back.

Clueless is a synonym for Donald Trump. Without a doubt, the dumbest President in history.

Once again, the Dotard club here misses the point. When the Forrest Service gives advice about what to do in a National park, he should probably listen. Just because Trump thinks he knows everything about everything that doesn't make it true.

You want a fire works show have it in NY harbor or SF Bay, there are lots of places to do it where it won't add to the risk of a forest fire. Also, millions of Americans would live in close enough proximity to actually see it.

Do we really need a presidential library for his sharpie art, picture books, and crayon drawrings?

They'll need to include a large gallery with pictures of Trump standing next to people whom he claims that he's never met or ever heard of.

Speaking of climate change, how come the fact that Greta's dad has been proven to be running her FB page hasn't been reported on here? Hmmmmmmmmm??? The single-use queen of false data is proven to be a fraud yet not one word from her base. We need to stop carbon emissions just as much as we need to stop hate from propagating.

Actually, no-one was speaking of climate change - I can't find any reference to it in the posts preceding yours. As is the case with virtually any post of yours I've been foolish enough to read, you have missed the point.

The issue is that Mt. Rushmore is in a forest, so there is always a chance of fire, regardless of climate change. The fire risk in the area is generally defined as " frequent ( in terms of number of fires ) but low intensity ( in terms of severity)." So fire risk exists; as does the risk of chemical contamination of the soil from the residue of fireworks, which already exceeds EPA safety levels as a consequence of previous displays.

Or we'd rather not burn down the Black Hills National Forest because some side probably promised Trump her get his reward of fireworks at Mt Rushmore if he was a good boy today.

According to multiple sources, S. Dakota is not currently in a drought. Even so, it's stupid for anyone without specific knowledge of an area to predict what the conditions will be on the FOJ.

LOL. It just dawned on me: Given the choice I have no doubt that Trump would much rather have his image added to Mt. Rushmore than to have a presidential library built to memorialize his presidency. He is THAT shallow.

Reality time:

Trump is wrong to suggest there hasn't been a large fireworks display at Mount Rushmore before. There were July 4 fireworks at Mt. Rushmore for several years, but they were discontinued in 2009 over environmental concerns including increased risk of fires. Also, the decision to resume fireworks at the South Dakota landmark was not approved "in 15 minutes," as the National Park Service is still evaluating the proposal.

Previously, fireworks at The Mount Rushmore National Memorial were suspended due to a pine beetle infestation which made the Black Hills National Forest surrounding the monument more susceptible to wildfires. A 2016 report by the US Geological Survey also found that past fireworks displays likely contaminated groundwater within the memorial, though drinking water remained safe for consumption. Since then, "the forest has gained strength and advancements in pyrotechnics allow for a safe fireworks display," according to a May 2019 statement from Noem's Press Secretary.

The statement noted that after "several months of meetings and discussions," the US Department of the Interior and the State of South Dakota agreed to work toward returning fireworks to Mount Rushmore for July 2020. This process includes tribal consultation and an evaluation by the NPS which is ongoing. The proposal will be available for public comment sometime in early 2020.

Not to worry.. Trump announced a train full of rakes is on it's way to clean up the forest before the fireworks display.

I believe the plan is to have a whole mountain all to himself. Trump's not one to share his Godly image with those other losers ~ especially with an all golden fireworks display.

Also, for the ceremonial occasion (and sale of souvenirs) he wants to add his name to copies of the Declaration of Independence above "John Hancock" because his signature is bigger and looks more important.

I would guess the National Park Service has some specific knowledge of Mt. Rushmore and it's environment and climate.

#35 | Posted by TFDNihilist at 2020-01-17 06:29 PM | Reply

Considering the number of protesters expected at Mount Rushmore where President Trump will speak before the firewoks on July 4th, the Park Service believes any fire will be put out by those peeing their pants. The quanity of waterworks outweighs the fireworks.
