The proposed rule by the Agriculture Department, coming on the former first lady's birthday, would give schools more latitude to decide how much fruit to offer during breakfast and what types of vegetables to include in meals. It would also broaden what counts as a snack.

What she did was spot on and necessary to curb childhood obesity. Serve the good stuff and make the kids learn to love it. It's school for crying out loud.

Good for you.

For those that aren't as perfect a human being as you are, they should be able to expect that schools aren't shoveling trash into their kids' bodies all because a spiteful POS "president" feels the need to undo everything the black guy did.

it would be nice for kids to be served the best lunch possible and have parents send the junk if that's what they choose for their kids to eat.

In what way did it not work? IIRC, this push helped remove soda machines from many high school campuses. I was in HS when they first brought soda machines on campus and was ecstatic! My parents were livid. Bottom line, the soda machines weren't just for the "benefit" of the students, there was money involved. For every soda machine placed on campus, Coke/Pepsi would donate money to that specific school. Our education system was selling us out. And there were PLENTY of us who desperately did not need those ------ extra calories. Obama's rethinking of on-campus food may not have been the overhaul that she had envisioned, but it was in no way a failure either, IMO.

@#1 ... School children across America are dancing in the streets. ...

Because Pres Trump says they can eat the junk food at school that their parents do not want them to eat.

And this is good... why?

To your point, when has the opinion of school children been A Good Thing regarding the nutrition of what they eat?

I remember reading about how before they put these rules into effect, some schools literally had a KFC in their cafeterias.

Last week I ate at an American KFC for the first time in years. It was ------- disgusting.

Since when do we allow the kids to run the asylum??? They would either eat what was served or do without. If the parents complained I'd tell them that the kids would eat what was served or they could pack their lunches. Back in my day it was eat the foods offered or starve.

From the link above...
Now a growing body of research, including the first national study of the impact of the Obama reforms, published today, points to their success and debunks the rationale for weakening them. The latest study is part of a comprehensive analysis commissioned by USDA, which found the reforms did not increase food waste. That's consistent with earlier, local research. Nor did the reforms drive up costs. What did increase when schools served healthier food? Nutritional quality of the school breakfasts and lunches, student consumption of whole grains and vegetables, and participation in the National School Lunch Program " exactly what the act was designed to achieve.

I can't tell if I support or don't support this.

What did the parents have for breakfast and lunch?

How much alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, cable, internet did their parents purchase during the school year?

I think there are families that need help. How much gov't aid for groceries goes towards breakfast and lunch?

Is it cheaper to fund school lunch programs per kid or would the money per kid go further in the hands of a parent?

It has to be cheaper to eliminate the costs of producing delivery of lunch (all the paid people) and give parents the money.

For the cost of eating out, I can purchase from the store 2x or 3x the amount of food. Growing up, we never ate out. Early on, govt aid. Our parents knew how to squeeze a penny.

Not entirely wrong. Humpy has not been a President. He has occupied the office of the President like an evil villain.

Acting like a freaking dictator or mob boss is not the same as being a President.

He is definitely not the President of the United States.

He can't be.

For we are not United.

And Humpy has been impeached for his actions.

That's two strikes.

One more strike. Fool us once fool us twice because we are fools that love a good bamboozle.

So. Impeach him again!

We sure as hell cannot give local school boards more control of their own kids. We need the federal government to decide what is right for every last person on this planet because we know local does not work best.
