At this point, it is not known how it spreads. Is it animal-to-human (as suspected by the initial infections in the Wuhan market), or person-to-person (as suspected from subsequent infections).

At this point, this could be very bad, or it could just fade away.

With the lack of knowledge about it, the medical community has to act upon the worst case until they kow otherwise.

Travelers at 3 U.S. airports to be screened for new, potentially deadly Chinese virus

...The monitoring " the first since Ebola " comes as millions of people in China are traveling ahead of Lunar New Year...

So far, it seems to be limited to those who have visited China. But the incubation period is not yet known.

Back in the day when you said "I think I got yellow fever" it meant you were in love with some Asian girl.

How times change.

Luckily it's not as bad (so far) as it's cousins SARS and MERS.

What a schithole that place must be to have zoonotic diseases coming out of it so often.

Any culture that has close interactions with lower species such as pigs or chickens is susceptible. China is a great breeding ground and environment for this because of the huge opportunity life has to mutate and change and interact with other life forms. Because there is a lot of them Chinese and a lot of Chinese pigs.

What's interesting about it?

Ebola is extremely contagious (one of the most easily spread viruses we know of), readily jumps species and spreads quite well from human to human. In fact the efficient human to human spread is why it tends to explode instead of smoldering like these do.

Salmonella in an unsanitary restaurant is just a bad comparison.
