The US Space Force has defended its newly unveiled camouflage uniforms after they were roundly mocked on social media.

What is that above the name tape, a Klingon bird of prey?

Ehh. The uniform style is just for decoration anyway. It's not like they'll be outerwear when going outside in space. Not newsworthy, IMO.

Pretty much, those are the uniforms that are currently standard issue, but with the new patches. Military procurement does not quickly come out with new uniforms as anyone with any common sense would realize.

Saves costs to reuse the Army/AirForce working uniforms, but it would make more functional sense for them to wear Coast Guard coveralls.

As it is right now, the USSF is probably VERY top-heavy, and those in charge likely didn't want to be displayed on Capital Hill in what amounts to a onesie jumpsuit with some stars tacked on for rank.

I'm more interested to see what the USSF dress uniform looks like and how soon they're planning on organizing some USSF balls

##4 and 5

LA Times said today that the Pentagon issued a release saying that for cost savings they would be using USAF BDUs, which makes sense.

LOL. Cuz when I think of cost savings the first thing that comes to mind is the Pentagon.

You guys are hilarious.

Funniest thing I've seen today! Very, very funny. They can go floating around in the upper atmosphere, waving their arms and shooting their star wars blasters in green camouflage so no one can see them. Chewie, quick, into hyperspace!

Are those uniforms going to be made in Ivanka's sweatshops?

When do we get to see the standard issue blaster rifles and will they have stun mode?

Not unless she opens one in Missouri.

What the hell is wrong with black life support armor?

Oh, OK. That is stupid.

It's an improvement on the Air Force BDUs, IMO , because the current AF set uses a gold "spice" color for all ranks' nameplates, the same color which the navy exclusively used for E7+,O1+, until USN transited to the green Type III set. USSF appears to have standard navy/black nameplates.

I'm a bit excited to see the USSF dress uniforms though, all services have unique versions of formal attire.

...all services have unique versions of formal attire.

Well that's important. Maybe they can cut costs and just use formal Marine uniforms?

Space Force is just the "Marines" of the Air Force after all.

Don't get excited. Nobody is going on any inter-stellar missions.

The money that was put in the Pentagon's budget for a "space force" is just another source of funds Trump can tap for his Wall.

Well you know, all those green leaves, trees, twigs and stuff way up out there in outer space.

They are just for the brass. The rest will be civilians and contractors.

"LOL. Cuz when I think of cost savings the first thing that comes to mind is the Pentagon."

Normally I'd agree. But keep in mind that Trump isn't through gutting the Pentagon budget for his Wall yet.

You know, ~~ for national defense.

Honestly. It's the space force. Go all black with the some stars and stuff on it.

I swear, we wear uniforms so you can tell. Also for camo.

Maybe we should go Star Trek. You soldiers would all get red shirts though. Not good for morale.

And yes, there is going to be a draft.

The Delta Green stuff is a black robe with a (useful) big Elder Sign emblazoned on it.

I always thought the Navy's new blue themed camos were stupid as hell. If a sailor falls over the side, why make it harder to find him?

Their uniforms should be bright red with reflector material as offshore oil rig workers wear. During war, enemies target the ship, not the sailors, which will be inside the ship anyway.

So they don't get machine gunned while they float like we did 99.9% of the Japanese sailors in ww2?

Space Force personnel will inevitably wind up sitting next to their air/land/sea domain brethren in operations centers scattered around the world. Few, if any of them will actually be doing stuff from outer-space.

Schitskrieg is a WW2 vet?

I call Bullcrap.

I'm a Viet Nam era vet, and I'm over 70. Is he 90?

There is a reason NASA astronauts don't wear camos in space. Loose clothing is not safe. Tight light clothing. Easier to move and get in and out of a space suit and small hatches. Something like a ski suit would be better as it keeps you warm.

Not an astronaut so what do I know? But I did sleep in a holiday in and I have watched Star Trek.

Well. I do know this

This Space Force is a Farce Force of the Air Force.

Using air force personnel infrastructure and budget and now uniforms. I worked in Space and C3. They have existed for decades. Same uniform even.

A wasted opportunity. They could have had effective space-based camo by incorporating spacy images: R2D2, the HST, the Jetsons, the Borg, etc.

Sad.
