Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, January 21, 2020

Tens of thousands of gun-rights activists from around the country rallied peacefully at the Virginia Capitol on Monday to protest plans by the state's Democratic leadership to pass gun-control legislation -- a move that has become a key flash point in the national debate over gun violence.

An interesting thing I learned this time was that blacks don't necessarily support gun control just because we assume they are Democrats.

Just like the fact the majority of Hispanics are Christian which may prove to be a problem for Democrats, gun control may not turn out well for Democrats either.

Previous event did become violent so it isn't surprising that there was fear this one would too. A person would need to be crazy not to be concerned about that. I'm glad it didn't but, gong in, those folks didn't have such a good record of non-violent protest.

Until very recently we Texans thought that a man-

1) Didn't cheat on his wives.

2) Didn't steal from veterans.

3) Didn't steal from sick children.

4) Didn't steal from struggling students.

5) Did pay his sub-contractors.

6) Worked a full day unless physically ill.

But, given Trump is in some real trouble here in Texas at the moment, maybe there are enough real men left to kick that candy-assed SOB to the curb.

OK, when did a former President withhold Congressionally approved military aid from another nation unless the leader of that nation would investigate his opponent? Both sides are the same? Then it shouldn't be hard for you to find an example.

You don't think the House has the Constitutional power to compel testimony?

Or you think an Article for obstruction is only ripe when, despite conduct that is de facto obstructive, all judicial remedies have been exhausted?

I assume the latter, in which case i say, what basis do you have for that position?

Precedent and prior actions. Look at the Mueller investigation. How many hours of testimony and how many witnesses were called that received no attempts to block? Now, look at past administrations - did any of them just cry "Uncle" when congress made demands or was there some pushback and claims of Executive privilege? As it pertains to the article of obstruction of congress there is plenty of history and precedent to show it to be an absolutely bogus allegation.

#51 | Posted by JeffJ at 2020-01-21 02:59 PM | Reply

Look at the Mueller investigation. How many hours of testimony and how many witnesses were called that received no attempts to block?

The Mueller Investigation was obstructed in many meaningful ways that are documented in the Report and Democrats' failure to impeach for that obstruction is a travesty.

Bottom line, there is nothing in the Constitution or judicial decisions that i'm aware of that requires exhaustion of judicial remedies for an obstruction article to be warranted. The question is - "did obstruction occur?" - not "did you go tell on us to everyone you could?"

While I support people being mentally healthy, I the "mental health industry" doesn't actually do that.

You want mentally healthy people, have healthy families, the more family in the household the greater the mental health stability. While this arrangment has its frustrations, mental health stability is about dealing with frustrations in a productive, and effective way.

The old adage applies today more than ever.

"the nuts are running the asylum".

Political correctness started out well meaning but has evolved into a mental disorder.

And the internet has made matters worse.

Now every kook on a keyboard is able to get online and have a say in the public forum expecting to be treated as if they are normal.

How in the world can society deal with mental disorders that pass under the radar calling them normal?

Now we just try to find people who are violent and let everyone else roam the streets pulling others down with them.

Snoofy,

If you had any advanced education, you would learn about the point of diminishing returns.

It seems both capitalists and liberals can fall into the same foolish trap of thinking throwing money at problems is always the best solution.

There is a point where the return on your investment is worth less than the cost.

The benefit is just not worth the effort.

At some point you just have to figure out the root cause of "the problem" and address that.

Ironic isn't it that both capitalists and liberals are blinded by money.

"There is a point where the return on your investment is worth less than the cost."

Which is why health insurance companies have lifetime maximums.
If you cost too much, they stop paying.
You know... Death Panels.

Snoofy,

Health insurance is rapidly becoming a joke.

More of the same isn't the answer.

Medicare for all isn't the answer.

The health care industry is the problem and you think we just need to spend more money to buy more of the same?

It's time to think out of the box.

"Health insurance is rapidly becoming a joke."

Try going without it.
We'll see who's laughing.

"Medicare for all isn't the answer."

A public option is a very good idea, in my opinion.
It's not perfect for everyone, but it would be a valuable option for most Americans.

Personally I'm glad the ----------- decided to act like human beings for a change.
After being threatened by police and having a few arrested pre-event to send them a message, of course.

No, I think we need to spend less money, a lot more wisely.
There's no need to spend 18% of GDP on health care.
The other modern countries spend about 10% of GDP (on a lower GDP even) and they still outperform us.

Except that no "leftie" has ever said any such thing that I am aware of.

We are actually pleasantly surprised. We all dodged a bullet. (Pun intended) But you and I know that we were lucky this time. The tiniest spark could have turned that event into a disaster. It's only a matter of time before it happens and some gun nut looses his ---- on "lefties" and we are literally dodging bullets.

And I will never understand why you folks continue to discriminate against left handed people.

Anyway. If all else fails make ---- up. And it is telling what you project with declarations like these. But we understand. It's what you people do best!

Telling us what YOU would do and then project that onto some "lefties" or whomever you are demonizing today.

So, the reality we have seen so far is that a huge gathering of gun fans ended with no violence. We also know that most municipalities that implement strict gun control become gun havens for criminals. Hmmmm...it's so tough to make a logical conclusion based off of that info...

Snoofy,

I've been supporting small and medium sized business' accounting systems since the 80's and there has been one constant I've observed in nearly every company.

Every year come renewal time every company's insurance monthly premium goes up 5-10 percent which is higher than the standard cost of living or wages.

Mathematically that meant one thing I saw back then and knew would come.

Insurance squeeze. Employers, employees, the insured will find themselves exactly where we are today.

It's been a long time coming but it has arrived.

How to fix it? I don't know.

But I do know waiting on the health care industry to do something is futile.

The government has a responsibility to all of us to use it's power to address this problem without becoming part of the problem.

We need the government to find solutions only it can implement without actually becoming overly involved.

Time to rethink the rule books and toss out what isn't working and work around whoever doesn't want to help.

We need ideas that benefit all people and not just the uninsured.

All legal Americans deserve for the American government to create a fair health care system for them.

Politicians...do something that works for all.

No need to rethink much of anything.
Just copy Canada, France, Germany, Japan, etc. etc.

Not sure what to make of that, other than it's happy hour somewhere.
