Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Elizabeth Warren was confronted by an angry father at a campaign event in Iowa by an angry father who took issue with her plan to forgive student loan debts. Arguing that those who paid for college tuition themselves would be "screwed" by her proposal, he confronted the Democratic senator on Monday at a presidential campaign town hall in Grimes, Iowa. Having waited patiently in line for a photo, he said: "I just wanted to ask one question. My daughter is getting out of school. I've saved all my money. She doesn't have any student loans. Am I going to get my money back?" "Of course not," Senator Warren replied.

"I appreciate your time," said Warren, seeming to offer a handshake.

"No, that's alright," the frustrated man says, walking off and dismissing her gesture.

Somewhere, Bernie is smiling..

Her student loan forgiveness thing is the dumbest idea ever. She thinks it's going to buy her some votes from the people who have loans, but I think it's going to back fire. I love this guy calling her out.

And you're right, Boaz. Bernie is grinning ear to ear.

Not the best strategy, the voter turnout rates from people with loans were 35.6% for 18-29 and 48.8% for 30-39 for 2018.

Their parents can vote too, you forget about us at your peril. Our concern is long term, what is the U.S. going to be like for our kids and grandkids with more tax cuts for the rich, foreign wars and Republican policies. America will become a "s**thole country," that is apparently what most Republicans want.

You just made the point of the article. Per the primary aggregate polling, the parents are not voting for Warren. She's not running against Republicans.

Typical righty mentality.

If you're not getting something everybody else should get nothing too.

You don't reward stupid people for being stupid.
You don't punish smart people for being fiscally responsible.

Unfortunately our healthcare system currently does this.

Wanna work and pay out your arse for insurance, that costs more every year and is basically now a 10% off coupon for exorbitant charges?
Or just pump out some more kids, knowing medicaid is there.

What should we do about people who grossly oversimplify things?

I don't know what "we" should do, but "you" will do what you always do which is whine about other comments without actually taking a position on the topic of the thread.

Are you for or against warrens stupid idea? Who knows. You're too focused on "righties".

I think higher education should be free to any who qualify academically.
That would give America the best chance at competing in the future.

The people that saved or payed off loans..you did what you needed to succeed..congratulations..you probably have a good life...now stop your crying.
Change is inevitable and the world's not fair.

Because they're so busy saying stupid things...

Anyways no, I'm not for outright immediate forgiveness. Just as I'm not for "free" college.

Its worse than that 101.

Warrens plan is subsidizing people going to college on the backs of those that don't or can't.

They poor, under Warrens plan, will now pay for middle class people to get college degrees.

First it was Tesla's, now its degrees.

Really?

So the taxpayers should fork over money so that my 74 old father can go get a degree in interpretive dance?

We know you aren't happy about it but Obamacare is still available and it makes your post look like the phony rants y'all are famous for. Utter nonsense.

"So the taxpayers should fork over money so that my 74 old father can go get a degree in interpretive dance?"

Considering the actual number of seniors who would actually do that your post brings up a typical right wing threat to taxpayers that doesn't even exist. It's what you do....it's called lying. BTW, in many places today seniors can already register for classes free. So your whine is just laughable as usual.

I know one thing for sure, I'm going to laugh at the next rightie here who starts that nonsense about the great nation of the United States. They don't want a great nation, they want a libertarian paradise which would be the farthest thing from a great nation you could find. Peru tried it, Peru regrets it.

If we don't want to grant free college to our citizens don't worry, other nations will offer their young people free college and our corporations, who pay little or no taxes, will hire them because they need them.

I'm 45. I sometimes get bored.

Maybe go get another degree in lit or something? Maybe film.

if it's someone else's money, who the hell cares?

Sounds like a good idea. I wouldn't mind getting another degree, in English literature, if I could find a department not overrun by post-modern leftist ideologues who spend all their time "deconstructing" texts looking for original sin--patriarchy, white supremacy, colonialism, etc. There are a handful of schools around teaching a Great Books curriculum.

Are you a Texas veteran? If so, the Hazelwood act is good for life, unlike the GI Bill which is good for only 10 years. Use it and spend some taxpayer's money to get that degree.

Places where higher education is "free" don't provide it for every one that wants it. Your average B and C student don't get "free" university. But don't worry, the wealthy will be able to afford to pay or provide tutors so their offspring will get a seat.

My cousin's husband, who is a staunch Democrat in the Texas legislature is one of those. He also is against school vouchers, but sends his kids to exclusive private schools.

What a hypocritical Democrat.

I live in Germany. College is free...if the government approves you to go. If they don't, you're not going to college. Unless you go to a college that's not in Germany.
