Researchers at Cardiff University have discovered a new type of killer T-cell that offers hope of a "one-size-fits-all" cancer therapy. T-cell therapies for cancer - where immune cells are removed, modified and returned to the patient's blood to seek and destroy cancer cells - are the latest paradigm in cancer treatments. The most widely-used therapy, known as CAR-T, is personalised to each patient but targets only a few types of cancers and has not been successful for solid tumours, which make up the vast majority of cancers. Cardiff researchers have now discovered T-cells equipped with a new type of T-cell receptor (TCR) which recognises and kills most human cancer types, while ignoring healthy cells.
This TCR recognises a molecule present on the surface of a wide range of cancer cells as well as in many of the body's normal cells but, remarkably, is able to distinguish between healthy cells and cancerous ones, killing only the latter. The researchers said this meant it offered "exciting opportunities for pan-cancer, pan-population" immunotherapies not previously thought possible.

Looks like with trials starting in November, due to Trump's "Right to Try Act" people here in the U.S. may be able to avail themselves of the treatment.

This is a great step. I was just talking to my Vet about the advances she has been using in treating cancers. Particular Sarcoma tumors - with similar treatments. They analyze the DNA and a custom vaccine is sent back. Pets that wouldn't live months have seen years already and cancer free. It's nice to see this hopefully coming to a person near you soon. NOT cheap though. I imagine in people it will be 100 times more expensive too.

Well pardon us for hoping that they actually have found a cure for cancer.

It would be unfair to all the people who died of cancer to cure cancer now.

Long ago, graduates had 6-8 months of income as college debt. Now we have 2-3 years. You do the math.

Oh, wait...I did: it's grossly unfair what we do to college kids these days. They've been screwed over since 9-11, when interest rates plummeted, which forced insurance companies and endowed institutions to jack up their prices to compensate.
