The White House has issued a formal threat to former national security adviser John Bolton to keep him from publishing his book, "The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir," sources familiar with the matter tell CNN. Trump's tweets attacking Bolton Wednesday morning suggested he knew the contents of the manuscript.

"Bolton has said he would be willing to testify in the Senate trial if subpoenaed. Trump has suggested that he might attempt to assert executive privilege and block Bolton's testimony, though legal experts say the President's tweets describing his conversations with Bolton about Ukraine might undermine any such assertion."

This shows that Trump has nothing to hide and is only protecting the office of the Presidency.... hahaha!

Innocent people do not act this way.

Isn't it the usual process for someone like Mr Bolton to submit his book to the proper department beforehand to see if it has classified info in it?

Is Pres Trump saying that Mr Bolton did not go through that process?

Or did Pres Trump find out from that process what is in the book and is now trying to classify it, after the fact.

A new wrinkle

WASHINGTON, Jan 29 (Reuters) - The White House has informed former national security adviser John Bolton that his book manuscript appeared to contain "significant amounts of classified information" and could not be published in its current form.

The letter from the White House National Security Council to Bolton's attorney, Charles Cooper, and seen by Reuters, said the manuscript contained some material that was considered "TOP SECRET."

"Under federal law and the nondisclosure agreements your client signed as a condition for gaining access to classified information, the manuscript may not be published or otherwise disclosed without the deletion of this classified information," the letter said.

I read an article yesterday that assailed Bolton for his timing. That he should have followed the Robert Gates model and waited until after the election to air his dirty laundry. I understand the argument but disagree with it. I prefer transparency as much as possible.

Ha int said all of that, given how much Democrats and the Left have routinely savaged Bolton over the past couple of decades how seriously are moderate liberals going to take his book?

Wrong question. How seriously will moderate conservatives take this book?

#6 | Posted by Zed at 2020-01-29 01:59 PM | Reply

#4 - I doubt that's true. Bolton's been around and knows not to include TS material in his book if he wants to get it published. There is nothing this WH says that can be believed. They're just saying that so they can have an (again!) "after the fact rationalization" for this "rejection."

The leaker of defamatory information in Bolton's manuscript may be Col Vindman's twin brother.

The truth isn't defamatory. Well unless you are Trump.

I agree the truth isn't defamatory to Trump, but it's being spun as if it were. Are both Vindman's the evil twin?

The truth is that Trump did everything the sworn witnesses, and now the NSA Dir at the time, said he did.

Even GOP Sens are admitting that now.

They only real question is should he be convicted for trying to force an ally at war to provide dirt on a political opponent if they wanted the military aid Congress had already voted to give them.

And that's an easy one. It's basically just what the Founders had in mind when they wrote the impeachment clause; a Pres benefiting personally and politically from his actions as Pres, particular with a foreign power, particularly concerning US policy and taxpayer dollars.

I'm impressed by how much effort the Deplorables have put into the "rooting out corruption" talking point over the past couple days, as a way of acknowledging and excusing everything Trump did.

What national mouthpiece are they cribbing from, anyone know?

By now, from quite a few GOP Sens. It's their way of excusing what he did since they are having to admit what he did in the face of Bolton's confirmation of the witnesses testimony.

#18 - I don't understand why Trump would ask a country that's so corrupt he has to withhold aid to do an investigation into alleged corrupt actions of a U.S. citizen. That makes absolutely no sense at all. Who honestly, actually, believes that line of BS? That justification shoots itself in its own heart.

That's just the point. Ukraine wasn't corrupt. In fact, they'd been cleared for takeoff by the DOJ. That's why everybody was so confused about the "hold" until the whistleblower filed his report ~~ (which the DOJ decided to sweep under the carpet).

But you know the drill. It's not the crime, it's the coverup. Hiding the full transcript of the July 25 phone call in a super-duper-secret-coded-server was and is evidence of guilt. Trump's attornies are lying when the say Trump released the transcript. He didn't. Trump released a truncated version of the transcript which left out a lot of incriminating evidence as to Trump's quid-pro-quo for personal gain.

If something "makes no sense" you can be assured that's because it isn't true. And you are correct ~ nobody believes that B.S. or Trump's justifications for his actions. Apparently not even his attornies since they've now adjusted their defense to "So what!"

I have zero doubt that it's this.

This is merely an effort to control the information.

Must be full of damaging tidbits for them to go this far.

this season of America's Next TOp President is quite dramatic but I can't suspend my disbelief; the writing is terrible. Sorry, but I'm cancelling my subscription.

White House Issues Formal Threat to Bolton Not to Issue Book

When somebody shows you their ---, show them yours. Bolton's next move should be to voluntarily testify to HOR. Let the HOR deal with the claim of Executive Privilege and force to courts and American society to deal with the turmoil in an election year.

Guilty as ufck people do.

Whatever is in the book is bad enough that Fat Nixon will go down the road of furthering the cover up of his crimes to hide it.

The reaction by liberals to this very vanilla letter may be the most deranged thing I've seen from them in some time.

Bolton submitted his manuscript to the NSC for standard review for classified content. The NSC (the same NSC that leaked the manuscript to Democrats) found some and responded with the letter which says so, and provides a reminder of the penalties associated with disclosure of said information. Period. I'll go further and bet that minus the first paragraph, the letter is boilerplate - common in every response where classified content is discovered.

"the same NSC that leaked the manuscript to Democrats)"

Not to the Democrats . . . to the New York Times and thus to the general public. GOOD FOR THEM!

They've learned from past experience it's the only way to bypass Trump's "hide the evidence" scam.
