Jeremy Lott: American soap operas are not popular these days. And yet, the Senate trial to remove President Donald Trump from office is currently garnering fewer viewers than the soaps.

I haven't watch a minute of this farce. Would rather watch more believable crime drama, like episodes of Poirot. And Miss Marple, an old spinster, makes Schiff look like a bungling amateur, kind of like Inspector Lestrade to Sherlock Holmes.

Because unlike the Clinton one, the majority people recognize it for the BS is it, so much that even the libbies dems will not drive up the numbers because unlike the rabid Trump haters, media and dem politicians, most really do not give a s***.

#3 do you ever get anything right?

Americans' support for the Senate convicting Clinton in 1999 was much lower than current support for convicting Donald Trump. Gallup's Jan. 22-24, 1999, survey (one of a number we conducted while Clinton was on trial) found 33% of Americans in favor of Clinton being found guilty and removed from office, while 64% were against. Our latest survey on Trump shows 46% in favor of his conviction.

In the 1999 survey, Clinton's job approval rating was 69%, much higher than Trump's current 44% approval. So, the lower support for Clinton's conviction went hand in glove with his approval rating: 64% were against conviction compared with his 69% approval rating, and 33% were in favor of conviction juxtaposed against a 29% disapproval rating.

The majority of Americans don't eat sleep and breath politics. Most couldn't name Pence, McConnell or Pelosi.

You spend all day on the DR. So you seem to be expecting the lack of public interest of the impeachment to indicate something more than that.

Clown,

When I saw this headline at Realclearpolitics and noticed that it was posted at CBS I was intrigued. When I read the case the author laid out I found myself shaking my head in agreement after every paragraph.

Public interest should have no bearing on the legislative branch doing its job.

Circuses draw crowds. We don't need the federal government to turn into a circus. Or, into anymore of a circus than it already is.

The question is, Is Trump guilty of abuse of power. The answer is yes. The only other question is. Will republicans defend the country, or their party?

Considering Republicans have a loyalty oath they have to adhere to.

I doubt they can choose country over party.

#7 | Posted by ClownShack at 2020-01-31 04:33 PM | Reply

Its rather simple.

Illegitimate President Bucket of ---- is a corrupt piece of ----.

Everyone knows it

Some people don't care.

The Ukraine narrative is very straight forward.

Everyone knows Republicans won't do anything.

Its like watching a movie or reading a book where you know the ending.

You'd have to be a special sort of voyeur to pay overly close attention to the proceedings of a kangaroo court when we all know what the outcome is going to be.

Maybe if you like slow-motion money shots in porn, you'd be the sort of person who tunes in for impeachment.

#9 | Posted by snoofy at 2020-01-31 04:48 PM | Reply

I'm not particularly convinced Americans are tuning in to much of anything these days.
Most everyone can live in their niche existence, far from the pressing issues of the world.

Public interest should have no bearing on the Legislative doing their job.

Let's rely on polls for witnesses and removal...considering people polled are the ones tuning out.

from the article

"Trump's impeachment trial also suffers from the fact that the central topic is foreign policy rather than, say, sexual indiscretions and lying about them under oath."

Amazing that there could be a newest Dumbest Thing Said" in this entire fiasco.

It's about real, actual rigging of an election through bribery and coercion of an ally at war using taxpayer dollars. That has nada to do with actual "foreign policy".

I think some people are tuning out anything Trump-related because they're tired of it. Some of those people are pro Trump and others are not.

Also, people consume media so differently these days i find it hard to put much stock in TV ratings. I've been streaming the coverage via my local NPR affiliate to a bluetooth speaker in my office. Nielsen's ratings don't know about that.

Based on the summary (not white listing them to read it) it sounds like an argument for apathy and complacency.

Not something I would cheer for.

LOL oh man. Some of you are so bass aackwards it's funny. Not in a good way, though.

Lie about a BJ? IMPEACH!

Leverage a foreign government to interfere in our election? Meh. Pass me another heavy metal laden cheap beer, please.

This episode is definitely proven that it's time for out little experiment to end. We've become too stupid and complacent to deserve the give the FFs gave us.

Did Trump's impeachment victory money shot taste like freedom? You might want to help Schiff wash it out of his eyes.

I have no enthusiasm for it. I told you how this would play out when the Dems first started this nonsense. Trump's money shot of freedom landed squarely in the faces of all the Libs thinking you could actually get the GOP to remove Trump from office. It is the ultimate conclusion to your wet dream. So tell me, does it taste like Freedom?

My bet is that the GOP picks up at least 2 Dems making this a complete exoneration. How that equates to the bug-eyed Pedo Schiff mopping the floor with the GOP is a mystery. You lost and now Schiff is known as a congenital liar. If Lindsey can finally man up, the Senate will investigate Hunter and Burisma and the GOP can take another victory lap then. Hard to image a bigger fail - well, other than the Dems not forcing Joe out of the race when this all touched off like I said they needed to - now, Bernie is surging and the corporate Dems will be forced to come out against him and destroy your party. Good job!

No one wants to watch a drama where the ending is already known.

Fat Nixon could murder a GOP senator live in chamber on tv and the Senate would vote to acquit him 50-49.

#24 | Posted by Nixon at 2020-02-01 10:56 AM | Reply

And in year 20XX, when King Don the Fat is lording it over his serfdom, these same clueless mouth-breathers will wonder what happened to them, their family and country. Tune in for the hijinks--oh, that's right: there will be nothing but Trump Family all day, every day, on every channel...

Yea... TRUMP played you guys like a cheap kazoo...

Got you to spend over 100 million to make sure he's remembered in history books...

TRUMP wears his impeachment like a badge... and you democrats sit there looking stupid....

people are tuning out because stupid people are boring...

democrats cried wolf once too often... now, no one's paying attention...

too bad that 100 million of taxpayer money could have been used to pay for other things...

BUT you know democrats... tax and spend... and there's plenty more to spend where that came from...

wolf.. wolf... the bad ol wolf is coming... right after the sky has fallen...

bat soup anyone??

#26 | Posted by Pegasus at 2020-02-01 03:08 PM | Reply

Only congress could spend 100 million tax dollars dollars and get absolutely nothing for it...

#29 | Posted by BruceBanner at 2020-02-02 01:55 AM | Reply

ummmm nice try but NO....Republicans tend to own the golf courses, club houses, Sport shops and Country Clubs in order to keep the Democrat Trash out...

Democrats, on the other hand, love public courses because they can kick out the public and close the course down to show everyone how important they are...

As for Tax money.... let's see what democrats are planing for your next year's tax refund...( but it's all OK cause it's all FREE FREE FREEEEEEEE !!! )

Reading down, I see several sour grape belchers claim that the People should not matter and that the Senate should do their job.
For months we have seen that the wants of the People DO matter and their constituency is what drives their representatives.
Do these morons think that the American People do not see this?

It isn't simply we have no reason to care - we also judge those who DO care as being people who only care because they sincerely and entirely HATE Donald Trump. This impeachment doesn't matter, so if it matters to you its because you stopped being fair and balanced a long time ago and now you will latch on to literally anything (including him saying something to some foreigner) about Donald Trump to hate him some more.

You made this problem by ONLY complaining about him for the past four years. You've had literally nothing good to say about what he's done well (prison reform, bump stock bannings, empowering unions, free speech on campus.)

Don't blame his supporters if Orange Man Bad syndrome has consequences.
