"...does not explain why a new process was created or why Trump is apparently the only candidate with access to it. "

The "process" is probably a 1-800 tip line. Why, does Joe Biden want to report a crime that was committed in the Ukraine?

Just call the main number, Joe, and tell the DOJ what you witnessed, or rather, what you did.

From the article..

...Graham reported he had spoken with Attorney General William Barr that morning. "The Department of Justice is receiving information coming out of the Ukraine from Rudy," he reported, explaining that Barr "told me that they've created a process that Rudy could give information and they would see if it's verified." ...

First, Giuliani is not a government official. He is representing Donald Trump as an individual, a fact he has made perfectly clear. He boasted to the New York Times last May that he was seeking to uncover "information will be very, very helpful to my client, and may turn out to be helpful to my government." ...

So, can any private citizen have their lawyer send allegations to Barr? What is this special "process" he created to let Rudy supply him with allegations? Is it a 1-800 number, a drop box, or what? Has Barr told the Democratic candidates how the process works so they can have their lawyers feed their own leads to him?

The second problem here is that Giuliani is not only representing a presidential candidate as his personal client. He is working in close contact with foreign partners who have a combination of personal interests and foreign-policy goals that do not line up with U.S. interests. He has not disclosed who is paying him for his work, but he was paid half a million dollars by Parnas, who was in turn paid by Dymtro Firtash, a Russian oligarch whose work tends to advance Russian foreign-policy interests. This raises the strong possibility that Giuliani is effectively a paid backchannel for Russian propaganda, and he now has a special line into the Department of Justice....

I'm thinking this could get interesting...

And then there's things like this...

Is a Ukrainian Oligarch Helping Trump Smear Biden to Evade U.S. Corruption Charges?
theintercept.com

...The latest phase of the disinformation campaign has focused on what Giuliani calls crucial new evidence: an affidavit from the Ukrainian prosecutor Biden got fired in 2016. But the sudden appearance of this sworn statement, six months after Giuliani and his allies began claiming that Biden had acted with corrupt intent to get that prosecutor removed, raises questions about who orchestrated the filing of that affidavit and how the effort to smear Biden might be related to a Ukrainian billionaire's fight against extradition to the United States to face bribery charges.

In the sworn statement, which was submitted to a court in Austria last month, Viktor Shokin, the former prosecutor general of Ukraine, claims that he was forced out because he was leading "a wide-ranging corruption probe" of Burisma, a Ukrainian natural gas company that paid Biden's son Hunter to sit on its board.

In fact, there is no evidence that such a probe ever existed. Shokin was forced to resign following complaints from international donors to Ukraine, and Ukrainian anti-corruption activists, that he had failed to pursue cases against corrupt former officials " including the owner of the gas company that employed Hunter Biden. By threatening to withhold U.S. aid unless Shokin was removed, Joe Biden had, in fact, made it more likely that his son's employer would be prosecuted for corruption, not less likely.

Giuliani, however, is dedicated to spreading lies about Biden's role in Ukraine on Trump's behalf, so he has taken to waving Shokin's affidavit in front television cameras with a theatrical flourish, as he did in an appearance on ABC in which he mistakenly stated that it had been online for six months. Shokin, in fact, delivered his sworn testimony in front of a notary in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, on September 4, according to a note on the document.

The Bidens are doing all they can to silence me, this is why! pic.twitter.com/Qp1MOgKNuD
" Rudy Giuliani (@RudyGiuliani) September 30, 2019

That timing matters because it means that Shokin made his statement accusing Biden of corrupt intent only after Giuliani and his allies in the conservative media echo chamber had spent the previous six months loudly making the same claim without producing a shred of credible evidence....

That is an interesting point.

Pres Trump wasn't interested in an actual investigation of the Bidens. He was interested only in the Ukrainian President publicly announcing that an investigation would take place.

Pres Trump wanted the negative publicity for one of Pres Trump's political opponents in order to benefit Pres Trump's campaign, and Pres Trump used US Taxpayer dollars to try to get that negative publicity.

I can't wait for the Trump Crimes Commission, William Barr sounds just like the new John Mitchell. It will be interesting to see how far into the family the Comission reaches, there is obvious corruption with Kushner and his refinancing of 666 Park Ave., but what about Ivanka, was getting those Chinese patents a crime WHILE she was in the WH? All of this sounds MUCH shadier than anything Biden has done. It's obvious that Drumpf still considers Biden his number one opponent, why else would he be working overtime to create a scandal from nothing?

The timing of all this Ukraine stuff is also interesting, starting to occur just after Mr Biden became a strong candidate.

While I do not pretend, as your comment seemingly does, to know what Pres Trump knew or did not know about the long term prospects of the Biden campaign, I do know what the witnesses said under oath to Congress. So, for now, I'll go with their statements instead of a random, unsubstantiated comment from someone.

Wow, interesting.

I've said in the past, Trump had two choices on Biden.

Either has to do oppo research on his own (thru his campaign), or ask the DOJ to open an investigation if he felt something was amiss.

But he can't manipulate an investigation himself, connecting Congressional aid and a foreign govt to do his dirty work.

However, isn't it customary for a department or agency to NOT reveal what they are doing? Barr now puts it out there that Biden is under the microscope......

Very similar to what Comey did to Clinton on the 2nd investigation into emails.

@#28 ... foreign generated and unverified oppo research be used as a predicate to launch 2 investigations into a presidential campaign replete with illegally obtained FISA warrants and FBI sources clandestinely used to try and entrap unwitting and low level staffers....

The report of Inspector General Michael Horowitz, the DOJ's independent watchdog, found several things...,

www.vox.com

...A brief overview of the IG report

Horowitz launched this investigation in March 2018 to assess whether the FBI was justified in opening its investigation (known as "Crossfire Hurricane") in July 2016.

As part of this, he reviewed the FBI's relationship with former British spy Christopher Steele, whose opposition research on Trump's ties to Russia became known as the "Steele dossier." Horowitz also reviewed the FBI's wiretap applications to the Foreign Surveillance Intelligence Court (FISA) and the bureau's use of confidential informants or undercover agents.

Horowitz concludes that the "FBI had an authorized purpose when it opened Crossfire Hurricane to obtain information about, or protect against, a national security threat or federal crime."

The report acknowledges that the bar isn't incredibly high to launch an investigation, but that the requirements were met. In multiple instances, Horowitz said he failed "to find documentary or testimonial evidence that political bias or improper motivation" directed decisions when it came to opening the investigation or authorizing investigations into individuals associated with the campaign or in the wiretapping former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

The report also discredits the theory that the FBI used informants or undercover sources to "spy" on the Trump campaign prior to opening the investigation, and finds that the FBI did not rely on the Steele dossier --- to open the investigation (though Horowitz did criticize the FBI's decision-making when it came to its relationship Steele and how it presented his information)....

It wasn't some back channel "foreign policy" being conducted in an attempt to extort something from Ukraine.

@#57 ... what is the likelihood that Barr will produce a report trashing the FBI and DoJ's investigation to please Trump? ...

Given what happened when IG Horowitz released his report, the Durham investigation is tainted already. For at least two reasons...

Mr Durham broke the usual "cannot comment during an ongoing investigation" to insert his opinion into a political argument. Mr Durham said, effectively, ~wait until you see my report and you'll see how wrong the Horowitz report is.~ With that, he tainted his investigation, because it shows he has already come to a conclusion, which he cannot change even if he finds other information..

Secondly, AG Barr commented that the Durham report would be out during the summer of 2020, looking like it was timed for the highest amount of political effectiveness. So it appeared that AG Barr (once again) has tainted the work of the DoJ to benefit his boss (and his boss is not the American People).

So to answer your question, which I quoted... I'd say it is quite likely.

Why would we care about him? Republicans already admitted he was right about everything in the complaint. They just don't want to impeach.

Ask your boy Rubio or your future unemployed Senator Collins.

Since the DOJ has an open door on this, I would assume that the door open to anyone then, yes?

The only given that a law may have been broken.

And Republicans will believe all of it.

They'll believe none of it.

More embarrassingly, they'll support it though.

"That said, i wonder how much Trump will care about Ukrainian corruption after Biden finishes 5th in New Hampshire. He better start bribing other nations with tax dollars to annouce fake dirt on Sanders, Buttigieg and Warren."

I think with Bernie Trump will get Barr to re-open the investigation into Jane. I say this because even after the case against her was closed, Victoria Toensing's son Brady was pushing for a new investigation:

With Buttigieg, I suspect that Pence will start pushing faux dirt against him from something that comes out of Indiana, which the DOJ can then start "investigating".

The investigation into Jane will no doubt be a nothing burger, but that's not the point. The point is rather to announce the investigation and then run on it against Bernie. Nothing came of Huber's investigation into the Clinton Foundation or into Uranium One. Nothing will come of the Biden investigation either. But in both cases unsubstantiated damage against the Democratic front-runner or candidate is more than enough to scare voters away from them.

Remember the hysterical meltdowns from the MAGAts when Lynch talked with Bubba about their grandkids on the tarmac?

Now we have open admission the DOJ is working on digging up dirt on a political rival being fed "evidence" from an extorted president given to his personal shyster lawyer.

Good times.

They won't "get" her, but they will try:

Fox News ran several segments this week warning Americans of the dangers of democratic socialism, but now the conservative-leaning outlet is taking aim at the wife of the movement's most prolific member: Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Fox News and the Murdoch family's other media outlets including The Wall Street Journal and the Fox Business Network made claims against the independent senator and his wife, Jane O'Meara Sanders, regarding a failed land deal and loan dating back to 2010. Thursday morning's Fox & Friends latched onto a scathing WSJ editorial digging back into Jane Sanders' tenure as president of Burlington College, which closed in May 2016 under the "crushing weight of debt" amassed under her leadership. Sanders left the school in 2011, but that didn't stop Vermont Republican Party vice-chair Brady Toensing -- who was also Trump's 2016 state campaign director -- from penning a letter accusing Jane Sanders of bank fraud to launch an investigation.

The Burlington Free Press reported last year that Toensing has referred to Senator Sanders as a "proselytizing socialist" and previously lobbied President Trump for a U.S. Attorney position.

Senior Sanders advisors say the federal investigation into the bad land deal was closed earlier this year and federal investigators aren't obligated to speak on closed cases. But right-wing critics are still calling for a "special prosecutor" investigation similar to Robert Mueller's probe into the Trump administration.

Toensing appeared on Fox & Friends Thursday to continue their discrediting campaign against Sanders and his wife.

"The college [Burlington] closed with a crushing weight of debt because she bought, in part, 32 acres to expand the college," host Steve Doocy told Toensing. "She took out $6.7 million in tax exempt loans. What's your problem with that? It sounds like she was just trying to grow things bigger?"

"Yeah. I don't have a problem. I like bigger things and I like successful businesses and I understand there's risk," Toensing responded. "But there's also something called bank fraud. And what happened was that Jane Sanders misrepresented and lied about confirmed contributions to the school in order to get the bank loan to buy this property."

#101 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2020-02-10 05:12 PM | Reply

Coincidence? I think not:

The Justice Department Hired the Son of a Vocal Trump Defender

Brady Toensing's family is neck-deep in the Ukraine scandal.

The son of one of President Donald Trump's most vocal defenders has a new gig in Trump's Justice Department. Brady Toensing"whose mother Victoria Toensing and and step-father Joe diGenova are key players in the rapidly growing Ukraine scandal"joined the DOJ in June as a senior counsel in its Office of Legal Policy.

The DOJ won't say how Brady Toensing got the job, but the entire family has close ties to Trump. . . . Now Toensing has found his way into a senior Justice Department spot that doesn't require Senate confirmation. It's unclear exactly why he was hired or what he's doing there. When it comes to a self-described transparency proponent, that's a disappointment.

Whatever any Biden did or did not do is only important if one is delusional enough to "think" that the most corrupt admin in US history.... was legitimately concerned about corruption in another country.
So, you'd have to be Sheeple.

The Russian investigation was built on more than the dossier and the dossier itself was from variety of sources, including some foreign governments and foreign intelligence services.
Concerns about the Trump campaign were also relayed from multiple foreign intelligence services.
It's a false equivalency because, surprise surprise, you're unable to take a hard position about Trump without first making it into an "everybody does it" sort of post.
