Doctors in China have adopted a new way of diagnosing the novel coronavirus, leading to a huge jump in both the official number of deaths blamed on the disease and the tally of confirmed cases in the country at the heart of the outbreak.

Around the same time the increase was reported, China removed the local government officials responsible for fighting the outbreak. So it is looking like China wanted to give their replacements a new baseline from which to be measured.

From what I heard on the news, the old officials were removed because, among other things, they criticized the central China government for making it difficult to report data on the outbreak. They said that they had to get a written sign-off for each time they wanted to release data.

I'd give the above a surety of 40 to 50%, given the lack of transparency coming out of China.

You have a link for that? I have some old school communist Chinese co-workers that wouldn't believe it.

Hit me up when it's over 100K. Hit me up again when it is global, like the Spanish Flu. Pandemics are exponential, so we should expect these numbers to increase. Not time to go buy duct tape and emergency rations yet.

corona virus is mother natures way of going green...

if spread, they figure it will kill about 60% of us...

that's 60% less green house gasses.... 60% less of a carbon footprint...

if you are poor, then it's your duty to get infected, die and save the earth...

While allowing the top 40% to live in the manner they have grown accustomed to...

you must die for the planet.... now do your duty....

Do we know the origin of this virus? Was it created in a military lab? What do we actually know?

...Edward Lawrence
Administration sources say they believe China is under reporting the number of #coronavirus cases by at least 100,000 in China. Also sources say the administration believes China is "severely" under reporting the number of deaths from the virus.

White House does not have high confidence' in China's coronavirus information, official says

...The U.S. does "not have high confidence in the information coming out of China" regarding the count of coronavirus cases, a senior administration official told CNBC.

The official also noted that China "continues to rebuff American offers of assistance."

There are more than 60,000 confirmed cases of virus, with the vast majority occurring in China, and over 1,300 people have died. After several days of reporting a slowing number of new cases, Chinese officials said on Thursday there was more than 15,000 additional cases. The majority of those came from a change in how the numbers were reported, with the "clinically diagnosed" cases now counting as "confirmed."

There has been skepticism among researchers that the official numbers reflect how contagious the virus truly is. An article published last month in the medical journal Lancet estimated that there were already more than 75,000 cases in China as of Jan. 25....

Who's they? Because 60% lethality is Ebola territory and is far higher than current numbers suggest and other related coronaviruses.

H5N1 has a mortality rate about that high but it's also not adapted to humans and doesn't spread human to human.

#11 pangolins are just getting even for centuries of being exploited and killed. This is nature's way of stopping the madness here on Earth. Soon we may all have the peace of the grave and nature can recover from human caused damage. The sixth great extinction event will probably claim us too. Maybe we should have played nice with mother nature?

You can save the planet and commit not to have any, or anymore children. Voluntary Human Extinction is the cutting edge of woke environmentalism.

Coronavirus containment in Europe working 'so far,' says Germany's Spahn

...Speaking to DW in Brussels after a meeting of European health ministers on Thursday, Germany's Jens Spahn said that Berlin was engaged in coordinated action with EU partners to combat the coronavirus' spread.

At the meeting, ministers discussed "measures regarding travel, while safeguarding the free movement within the EU," according to their joint statement.

Spahn told DW that a coordinated approach within the EU and internationally was required. He emphasized the importance of slowing the spread of the COVID-19 virus to ensure it does not proliferate in regions beyond China.

"So far it's just a regional epidemic outbreak in China, but we need to be sure that it does not become a real epidemic or a pandemic worldwide," Spahn said.

"So far, in Europe and the European Union, detection and containment is working," Spahn said. "But we have to admit, that's today. It could get worse before it gets better, because as long as it's not under control in China, these regional epidemics can transform into a worldwide pandemic."...

Informative backstory...

Did China's information suppression help spread the coronavirus?

...As the new coronavirus continues to rage across China, some experts say information control by the Chinese government could be a contributing factor.

They argue that the central and local governments have prevented key information from reaching the public, keeping the Chinese people in the dark about how widespread the infection really is. This has made it difficult to put proper preventive measures in place....

Authorities in Wuhan made public on December 31 the outbreak of pneumonia with unknown causes. At the time, they revealed 27 people had developed symptoms. On January 11, they said that 41 people had contracted pneumonia, and reported the first death. But the number of patients remained almost unchanged in government announcements. From January 19, however, the number began to rise significantly -- a seemingly unnatural shift.

No convincing explanations have been given, but there's one thing that is certain -- the People's Congress was underway in Hubei between January 11 and 17.

Professor Ichiro Korogi, an expert in Chinese politics at the Kanda University of International Studies, says the government might have intentionally withheld information about the infection for the sake of political stability.

In fact, media reports say measures against the new coronavirus were not on the agenda at the Congress. As a result, no sense of crisis was shared with the public, allowing a traditional event called Wan Jia Yan to go ahead in Wuhan on 18 as scheduled, prior to the Lunar New Year. The event, attended by tens of thousands of people, could have accelerated the spread of the virus....

I hate these communists, always have, always will. America 1st and stop buying cheap Chinese products. Americans offshoring to these commies are true traitors.

>This coronavirus is a catastrophe on the scale of Chernobyl for China but actually it's probably worse than Chernobyl which was localized in its effect. The coronavirus could result in a global pandemic.

>While you were all sleeping overnight, the number of diagnosed cases in China increased by 30%. Now let me be clear: that's not new cases. That is just newly admitted cases. It is probably several orders of magnitude higher than that.

>Also while you were sleeping, China now has its entire border with Russia closed: 2600 miles. Russia has closed that border. El Al [Israel Airlines] has shut down travel between Israel and China. Air France has shut down travel between China and France. And that's in addition to all the other countries that had already shut down travel.

>From what we know so far, and there's still many unknowns, this virus could have both a long incubation period as much as 14 days and individuals could be contagious while asymptomatic which was not the case with SARS in 2003. Furthermore, from some cases it appears the virus could be aerosolized which means it doesn't require the kind of contact that you have with, say, a married couple kissing each other or family living in close quarters in a hotel or apartment, but rather the distance we are all sitting apart right now.

>Yet China is still lying about all of this. They've been lying about it from the very beginning and you don't need their history of lying about SARS in 2003 though it is relevant here. You just have to see what's happened over the last two months. We now know that the first case manifested no later than December 1 even though China didn't reveal it to the WHO until a month later on December 31 when they continued to hide it from their own citizens. And they continued to say that it would be contained inside Wuhan; today it is in every single province in China.

As I said. Take whatever numbers the Chinese give you and add 10,000 to 100,000. This way you will get a more realistic picture of what is happening in China.

When has the Chinese government ever give a real account of what is happening in their country? I would assume the worst with these guys and prepare for it (the virus) in our countries.
