The Senate passed an Iran War Powers resolution on Thursday, a rare measure that was approved with bipartisan support despite the fact that it has been opposed by President Donald Trump and aims to rein in his ability to use military action against Iran without congressional approval.

"The President warned the Senate not to green-light the measure on Wednesday, tweeting that "it is very important for our country's security that the United States Senate not vote for the Iran War Powers Resolution," and adding, "If my hands were tied, Iran would have a field day."

The White House has also issued a veto threat against it.

Despite that, the resolution, chiefly authored by Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, won bipartisan support. Several Republican senators, including Lee, Paul and Collins, signed on as co-sponsors."

A few GOPhers put on their Big Boy Pants to join Dems. Where were they when we needed them to protect the Constitution on impeachment?

Congress should have SOLE power to begin any military action and the power to pull the plug on it at any time. They have abdicated their responsibility on this since WW2. To the great detriment of this country. We were never intended to have an ALL POWERFUL executive. Trump is a usurping turd but BUSH 2 was just as bad.Even "saint" Obama was wrong on this issue. The president is WAY too strong in a way that was never intended by the framers at all. We already have elective Kings here, we just CALL them presidents.

Meaningless show vote by vulnerable Senators who want to say "I am not beholden to the dictator" when it won't survive a veto.

And when the President ignores it, the GOP will say "Who cares?"

The legless lizards in McConnell's senate don't have the gut to override a veto.

All dewlap and no swimmers.

Actually, not a bad thing.

I only wish they had the balls to do this before the whole Libya fiasco.

Bush2 and Cheney should both be in prison at TheHague like slobdan Milosevic was. If Americans were willing to Jail their leaders like Israel and other nation's we would be a better and more just nation. War is the ultimate crime. It should only be a last resort and as minimally lethal as possible even then. Bombing cities from the air is mass murder, nothing less, cowardly, too. Droning should be absolutely considered a war crime. By that measure Obama belongs at TheHague too.

I'd have to say BOAZ, you've got that a little bit backwards. A very few of the Republicans put on their big boy pants to join the Dems, not the other way around and notice, not enough of them to override a veto. It will be "big boy pants time" when the vote to override his veto comes up, I'm not expecting any profiles in courage from Republicans these days. I'll just say thing about it, were I a Republican voter, this vote would cause me to leave the GOP if the Senate Republicans don't override his veto. My respect for any Republican Senator or voter will evaporate if and when they refuse to stand up to the dictator.

"And you libs think Trump will sign it?"

He already said he will veto it, so now the Senate Republicans will have to decide where their loyalty lies, with Trump or with the nation. I'm betting on Trump. Those cowards in the Senate don't have the guts to actually stand up to him.

I said it the last time this discussion came up, but I would prefer Trump veto this bill with the clear understanding that a similar bill restraining presidential war powers in -all- instances, not just Iran as this one does, would be signed into law.

Trump must be stopped, GOPers,I'm calling on you to stop this madness.Call your senators TODAY AND TELL THEM TO APPROVE THIS NESCESSARY RESOLUTION!! The future of our republic and the wider world may well depend on keeping this IDIOT FROM BLOWING UP THE WORLD TO INDULGE HIS INFANTILE IMPULSES AND EGO.
