Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Many rank-and-file Democrats " like so many disillusioned voters in democracies the world over--like the idea of hiring a no-nonsense, post-political businessman to fix their broken government (just, you know, a less ostentatiously racist one than America's current CEO). Meanwhile, many Democratic elites see Bloomberg as a (slightly unsavory) savior who can single-handedly stop the party from nominating a supposedly unelectable socialist, provide its vulnerable first-term suburban House members with an ideal standard-bearer, and liberate the party from all resource constraints and fundraising headaches as it rides a rising tide of billionaire bucks back into power.

So, it looks like some Democrats are wanting to counteract the Trumpification of the GOP with the Bloomification of the Democratic party, and as much as I hate to admit it, I'm torn about the prospect. OTOH, I think it's a bad idea. OTOH, I think this election is likely the last chance to save our democracy and that as it stands now, it's not going to be a fair fight. Trump and Republicans will cheat any and everyway they can, and who is going to stop them? Not the FBI, not DOJ, not the House or the Senate. The Supreme Court? Will it take a brash billionaire with exceptional media savvy and billions to burn to give Democrats a fighting chance? That seems to be the question many Democrats are asking and starting to answer in the affirmative.

A Bloomberg presidency cedes the entire argument to the Republicans.

Billionaires should have no place in politics.

(They should be taxed out of existence too but that's a different discussion)

I have to disagree with y'all. I welcome Bloomberg and all of his money to this election, he's already said that even if he is not our nominee he will still spend one billion dollars to help us defeat Trump. I appreciate that he recognizes the threat to our nation and puts his money where his mouth is.

"(just, you know, a less ostentatiously racist one than America's current CEO)"

Current president that passed criminal justice reforms, or the candidate of Stop and Frisk Black People?

Bloomberg is definitely not the candidate you are looking for.

Democrats have a tendency to bring a knife to a gun fight. Trump would never make that mistake, and I suspect Democrats considering Bloomberg are hoping he won't either.

"Current president that passed criminal justice reforms"

Current president who once took out a full page ad about the Central Park Five and still refuses to accept their innocence.

Bloomberg may be a bad idea who's time has come.

No idea what the Dem primary voters might decide, but if it's ever Bloomberg v Trump, it'll be a fine time to follow Noam Chomsky's rules for voting the lesser evil.

I'm still hoping that former WWE wrestler Dwayne The Rock Johnson gets in the race. That way we'll get at least 1/2 the Repub base.

Wait till Trump puts a Texas infant in there!

You have the freedom to choose whichever candidate you'd like in 2020.
Either the racist old white guy billionaire who was a republican running as a democrat
-OR- the racist old white guy billionaire who was a democrat running as a republican.

"I think this election is likely the last chance to save our democracy..."

So much drama and hysteria you've fueled over the last 3 years.

Causing a fake news panic should be a crime or something.

Trump needs to be "fired" by the American people on Election Day at the ballot box.
All other democratic squabbling can be handled after that.
Vote blue no matter who!

"He crushed Occupy Wall Street."

The movement was already defeated by those who infiltrated and subverted it, just like BLM. I'm sure some idiot or troll will give me a funny flag for pointing it out, but it's true.

Bloomberg is a fraud. He supported Gw Bush for gawds sake. He was enthusiastic about the Iraq war. If the Dems change the rules to nominate that pile. We might as well declare america a one party nation. ALL REPUG ALL THE TIME!!
