New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) on Thursday denounced President Trump after he suggested that the state and Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) need to stop filing lawsuits against him in order for its residents to be able to enroll in Global Entry and other Trusted Traveler Programs (TTPs).

MFA:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a first-term congresswoman representing portions of Queens and the Bronx, tweeted that Trump is "publicly admitting that he is holding Global Entry for New Yorkers hostage in exchange for dropping lawsuits against him and his family's lawbreaking behavior."

"This is corrupt, illegal, and authoritarian," she said.

Well, that didn't take long:

"What we have alleged in this case is that the president solicited a personal, political benefit in exchange for an official act," Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said during the Senate trial, "solicited dirt on a political opponent in exchange for the release of $391 million in military aid " solicited dirt in exchange for a White House meeting.

"And if this Senate were to say that's acceptable, then precisely as was outlined in that question, could take place all across America in the context of the next election and any election," he continued. "Grants allocated to cities, or towns, or municipalities across the country that the president could say, You're not going to get that money Mr. Mayor, Ms. County Executive, Ms. Town Supervisor " unless you endorse me for reelection.' The president could say that to any governor of our 50 states. That's unacceptable, that cannot be allowed to happen in our democratic republic."

Jeffries couldn't have known how quickly an eerily similar situation would emerge.

Lesson learned, eh, Susan Collins?

Trump accused of another quid pro quo, this time with New York

"He's holding New York state hostage to try to stop investigations into his prior tax fraud," tweeted Rep. Val Demings.

My question is just this: would you Republicans accept the same behavior from a President with a D after his name?

Except that Trump admitted no such thing.
Dem amplified by the media 'OMG, look at this thing that Trump said'
Rational person reads what Trump said and found that it is in no way what was portrayed.
Dem amplified by media 'How can you just ignore such blatant illegality'.

Trump - "I'm seeing Governor Cuomo today at The White House. He must understand that National Security far exceeds politics. New York must stop all of its unnecessary lawsuits & harrassment, start cleaning itself up, and lowering taxes. Build relationships, but don't bring Fredo!"

I suppose if you're deranged enough you can pretend that he said nearly anything with that tweet.

That's the point, and folks like you intentionally or unintentionally fall for it. The statement is worded vaguely enough to give plausible deniability, yet clear enough to those that matter.

Donald Trump's tweets are his words and thoughts.

They are official government proclamations from the most powerful political office in the world.

I supposed if you are deplorable enough you can pretend that nothing this corrupt conman says in his tweets mean anything or can be held against him.

They do mean something and he will be held accountable by the patriotically "deranged" half of America.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's totally fine because Republicans in Congress have already signed off on Trump using his office to try to bribe and extort others.

"Until then, we have a duty and responsibility to defend the Constitution and the rule of law."

This is why it's OK to ignore politicians who specifically call themselves hypocrites. So the Dem AG cares about the Constitution now? What about her track record on gun control and trying to ban guns? That is our SECOND Amendment yet she is doing the opposite of defending that right in the Constitution. Just like everyone else who prioritizes party over country, this lady's statement should have been followed up in the article with, "Your track record proves you only have a duty and responsibility to defend the parts of the Constitution that you agree with". But that would be responsible journalism, which doesn't exist anymore.

I'm not saying it's bad to fight against what you feel should be changed. But don't be smug and try to sit on a high horse and then contradict what you say with what you do. That's the Liberal motto of the 21st century so far...thus W and Trump were elected.

I guess it all boils down to people seeing what they want to see. You two seem to want to see evidence of Trump's wrongdoing...I merely want to see the truth.

Cool story. Now what do you think about the President seemingly trying to use a matter of national security to bribe the state of New York into dropping legal proceedings against him?

That's a tall order when it comes to Trump. His whole existence depends on his manipulation of the truth.

Ha! The NY AG told Trump to ram his threat up his constipated ---- hole.

Will the presidency ever recover from comb over skid mark

What I read is that Trump is worried about losing re-election in November. There's a ton of lawsuits waiting for him if him does.

Trump knows that he is going to jail if he loses re-election. There is no limit to what that lying POS will do. Let's see just how much his republican enablers will tolerate. Dem senators need to put their republican colleagues on notice that they (the dems) will turn a blind eye to next democratic president over stepping his/her authorities.

"Will the presidency ever recover from comb over skid mark"

LOL ~ not with Mike Bloomberg in the Oval Office. He's as bad as Trump ~ in his own right.

I hope the Republicans aren't dumb enough to elect ANOTHER wealthy successful New York businessman who knows how to run a company.

Bloomberg didn't mass his great wealth by being kind, compassionate and empathetic to those he had to step on. Neither is he innocent of bribery, threats, pay-offs, racism and intimidation to get there.

Money is the name of their game . . . all of them. Bloomberg is no different.
