Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told a crowd at a private gathering in England on Wednesday night that the Trump administration "needs more immigrants" for the U.S. economy to continue growing, according to an audio recording of his remarks obtained by The Washington Post.

... Would bringing in more immigrants improve the conditions of Americans already here? ...

Pres Trump touched on this before, I think it was the 2019 State of the Union. Lemme spend some quality time in duckduckgo...

Found it...

...Trump made several digressions from the written transcript that shifted the meaning of what he said.

For instance, while in the prepared speech Trump was supposed to say, "Legal immigrants enrich our nation in countless ways. I want people to come into our country, but they have to come in legally," he actually said, "Legal immigrants enrich our nation in countless ways. I want people to come into our country in the largest numbers ever, but they have to come in legally."...

Yeah, but as Trump has said before in private, we know what color he wants those immigrants...

Immigrants with needed job qualifications, I can see, not just 'bodies' streaming over the southern boarder.

Could unlock some of the cages.... but I guess it's true they might compete for MSGT's job.

Sorry, but all us smart folks from around the world are going to Canada, for the friendly welcome and great healthcare...
--The sort of well-educated workers that Western societies want

The Trump brain-teasers will never be able to solve the problem of how to build a better-paid, more-educated society with better social services and healthcare. Here are some hints on how to do this:
-invest in public schools, from pre-K through college
-raise the minimum wage to a living wage, reducing the number of economic migrants in the US
-start with Obamacare, then make it better. REALLY better. Whole you're at it, make medicaid better, so those at the bottom can get some decent form of healthcare, so they can stay in school and hold down decent jobs
-provide better public transit infrastructure and better-trained police
-provide more financial aid to college students, so as to reduce the burden of student loans on post-college citizens

So far, Trump's response has been a wall, reduced funding for public schools, no action on the minimum wage, no action on healthcare other than suing to eliminate the ACA, and converting Medicaid into a block grant program, reduced funding of public transit, and no help with student debt.

Soon enough, well-educated 20-something Americans will start doing what those from many other countries already do--move to Canada for better opportunities...

American business and agriculture need a large and steady supply of cheap labor. Corporate America has been making that clear since back when Ronald Reagan got the IRCA passed in the mid eighties.

It's even worse than that:

He's interfering with an economy that SHOULD be far higher than it already is with his tariffs and he's actually undercutting the programs put in place to assist people entering public service careers (you know, taking on roles and positions that pay FAR less than the private sector) pay off their loans within their lifetimes. These programs were put in place and people recruited into them with the PROMISE of government assistance as the sole incentive; not even talk of grandfathering in those folks who took on this 'agreement.' Even worse, student loans are THE most significant financial burden that cannot be rectified through bankruptcy. It used to be considered a mild sham, but now? Now it's an outright sham, victimizing millions of people.

Republicans sure do have a funny way of holding to their promises (the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program was established under President Bush in 2007).

Funny that he's mentioning this in a country full of predominantly white, English speaking folks.

Start moving to Canada?

It's already happening...

Canada is becoming a tech hub. Thanks, Donald Trump!
www.vox.com

... US companies are going to keep hiring foreign tech workers, even as the Trump administration makes doing so more difficult. For a number of US companies that means expanding their operations in Canada, where hiring foreign nationals is much easier....

Sixty-three percent of employers surveyed in the Envoy study are increasing their presence in Canada, either by sending more workers there or by hiring foreign nationals there, according to the Envoy survey. More than half of those did both. Another 65 percent of hiring professionals said Canada's immigration policies are more favorable to US employers than US policies.

Of those surveyed, 38 percent are thinking about expanding to Canada, while 21 percent already have at least one office there. ...
