"Republicans went nuts" when an intelligence official told Congress that Russia was siding with Trump in the election"again. Then Trump tapped a political ally as his top spy.

"Again" is a misnomer:

The meeting, which took place on February 13, was conducted for the House Intelligence Committee by an aide to outgoing acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire. According to a legislator who was present, the aide, Shelby Pierson, Maguire's election security chief, described a Russian elections-intrusion effort that never stopped from 2016.

"It continues with the same target, and the same purpose, and it's clear that they [the Russians] favor one candidate over the other," is how the lawmaker described it.

"The Republicans [on the committee] went nuts," over Pierson's presentation, the member told The Daily Beast.

Trump wanting to hide this fact from Democrats in Congress and from the American people in general sounds like collusion to me.

What he was most upset about was that they told the Democrats. He was hoping that it would have remained a secret. After all, isn't that what intelligence officers (AKA ------) are supposed to do, keep secrets? I mean, what good is it if your intel people insist on talking to the enemy, in this case, Adam Schiff? This is why he fired Maguire, so that he can now put someone in charge who will agree, ahead of time, to keep this sort of stuff just between him and Trump, and perhaps Putin.

Russiapublicans unite!

So wait a minute, Russia interfered in the 2016 election, in apparent collusion with the DJT campaign. The DJT campaign obstructed justice, then claimed it was all a hoax, and now DJT is replacing anyone who participated in the investigation and found evidence of Russian interference with unqualified propagandists.

The Russiapublican Senate has blocked EVERY election security bill.
The Russiapublicans and the White House have withheld election security funding.
Citizens United allows foreign interference.
Russiapublican Americans are just fine with DJT cheating in elections.

And it's breaking news that the Russians (at least) are interfering in the 2020 election? I'm completely shocked that this would happen! Shocked!

Trump had Putin get him elected and in exchange Trump would let Putin run this country and for that Putin would let Trump build a hotel in Moscow. And how are they going to interfere? Put up some more Facebook ads that look like a 10 year old came up with? Only a liberal would fall for those. It is obvious that don't need to put up any anti-Dem candidate ads, all they would have to do is run loops of the debates.

This is a serious situation and could prevent Democrats from winning.

Probably not as serious as arbitrarily excluding polls to manipulate participants of debates, faking "hot mic" confrontations, eliminating the Des Moines caucus poll for the first time in seventy six years, Running the Iowa caucus through an untested app run by imbeciles, Refusing to release already submitted results, releasing results that don't match Iowa captains results, taking several days to release results, calling for a recanvass before the the first results are complete, going back on your debate rules to allow a Republican to buy his way on to the debate stage, a sudden reversal of opinion that the person with the most delegates going to the convention is not the winner and we should probably get superdelegates involved, and telling everyone that for some reason we aren't going to get the caucus results the night of the caucus in Nevada either.

But the Russians are probably what's going to stop the Democrats.

NSC aide who worked to discredit Russia probe moves to senior ODNI post
www.politico.com

...Kash Patel, a former top National Security Council official who also played a key role as a Hill staffer in helping Republicans discredit the Russia probe, is now a senior adviser for new acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, according to four people familiar with the matter.

It's not clear what exact role Patel is playing in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which oversees the U.S. intelligence community. He started at ODNI on Thursday, according to an administration official.

Patel, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment, joined the National Security Council's International Organizations and Alliances directorate last February and was promoted to a senior counterterrorism role at the NSC in mid-summer.

He had previously worked as Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.)'s top staffer on the House Intelligence Committee and was the lead author of a report questioning the conduct of FBI and DOJ officials investigating Russia's election interference. Republicans later used the report to bolster arguments that the probe was a plot to take down President Donald Trump....

The indictment came only three days before President Trump was planning to meet with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia in Helsinki, Finland.

The 29-page indictment is the most detailed accusation by the American government to date of the Russian government's interference in the 2016 election, and it includes a litany of brazen Russian subterfuge operations meant to foment chaos in the months before Election Day."

American IRS tells him he owes thousands (millions) in taxes.
Russian government gives him millions tax free.

Now do you understand what is going on Trumpers?

Last, does anyone ask themselves why Russia would want Trump?

"George Washington warned the people that political factions may seek to obstruct the execution of the laws created by the government or to prevent the branches of government from enacting the powers provided them by the constitution. Such factions may claim to be trying to answer popular demands or solve pressing problems, but their true intentions are to take the power from the people and place it in the hands of unjust men."

"Washington makes an extended reference to the dangers of foreign nations who will seek to influence the American people and government; nations who may be considered friendly as well as nations considered enemies will equally try to influence the government to do their will. "Real patriots", he warns, who "resist the intrigues" of foreign nations may find themselves "suspected and odious" in the eyes of others, yet he urges the people to stand firm against such influences all the same. He portrays those who attempt to further such foreign interests as becoming the "tools and dupes" of those nations, stealing the applause and praise of their country away from the "real patriots" while actually working to "surrender" American interests to foreign nations."

What is interesting as I read this thread is how effective propaganda is. I mean I recognize it and have recognized it for years.

Nulli, Fish, Ben, Wis, Sniper, Mustang, etc. - Drinking from the fountain of right wing and Russian propaganda. Present facts? "Who cares? I'll just deflect with absolute rubbish, a whataboutism or something else." Why? Because they can't refute facts and their brains are so intoxicated by the drugs they have been fed. They feel that for some weird reason it isn't a big deal because they are getting told they are getting what they think they want...

You folks are the brown shirts. If you don't want that label then start to investigate what you are being told by seriously slanted sources. Get off the Fetishized Social Media feedback loop. Open your mind to the fact that organizations with no or slight bias are reporting facts. Do your own research outside the feedback loop of right wing sites and when you do find something TRY to look at it objectively.

I realize there are a poster or two here that fit that from the left but it is time to realize you are being played and manipulated like puppets - seriously. It's like someone has a hand shoved up your rectum and is making your mouth flap. At some point you made a conscious (maybe unconscious) decision that anything on the left is wrong so anything from the right must be true OR you just don't care about what is true because everyone not in (R)Wonderland is just automatically wrong.

The future of our country is at stake. Dramatic? Sure but true... I believe in the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence. I believe in the Constitution. I know government has become lazy and our politicians are being bought by the highest bidder. Now please, collectively pull your heads out of your asses.

Jake Tapper clarifies this BS

twitter.com

A national security official I know and trust pushes back on the way the briefing/ODNI story is being told, and others with firsthand knowledge agree with his assessment.

"What's been articulated in the news is that the intelligence community has concluded that the Russians are trying to help Trump again. But the intelligence doesn't say that," the official says...

"The problem is Shelby" -- Pierson, the elections threats executive in the intelligence community -- "said they developed a preference for Trump. A more reasonable interpretation of the intelligence is not that they have a preference, it's a step short of that....

4/ "It's more that they understand the president is someone they can work with, he's a dealmaker. But not that they prefer him over Sanders or Buttigieg or anyone else. So it may have been mischaracterized by Shelby" at the House Intel briefing last week...

5/ "And by the way," the official says, "both Democrats and Republicans were challenging this at the briefing."

Then there's the matter of the tense meeting between President Trump and erstwhile Acting Director of National Intelligence Admiral Maguire...

6/ "The President was upset that he had to hear about an intelligence conclusion from a Member of the House Republicans rather than from the intelligence community. So he was out of joint with Maguire on that process."

7/ None of this disputes that Trump desires to replace those who have Intel expertise with partisan loyalists, or dismisses the larger issues and concerns about Russia and how the president seeks help from abroad.

Just that there seems to be more to this particular story.

"over a 2 year Dem investigation came up with nothing"
12 Russian Agents Indicted in Mueller Investigation
"WASHINGTON " The special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election issued an indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers on Friday in the hacking of the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton presidential campaign.

It's as simple, clear and obvious as the nose of Trump's face:

If the Russians weren't helping him but were instead hurting him, he'd want everybody to know. He wouldn't be irate because someone in the intel community did their job and informed the appropriate House members, Democrats included. He'd be glad Congressional members were told and--wait for it--he'd want the intel community to do something to stop the Russian interference. Uh well...

From the Washington Post:

"It is not clear what form that Russian assistance (to Sanders) has taken. U.S. prosecutors found a Russian effort in 2016 to use social media to boost Sanders's campaign against Hillary Clinton, part of a broader effort to hurt Clinton, sow dissension in the American electorate and ultimately help elect Donald Trump.

"I don't care, frankly, who Putin wants to be president," Sanders said in a statement to The Washington Post. "My message to Putin is clear: Stay out of American elections, and as president I will make sure that you do."

....

"Despite Trump's skepticism of Russian efforts to damage American democracy, officials in his administration have repeatedly warned that Russia has ongoing plans to interfere in U.S. elections and foster divisions among Americans, part of a strategic goal to undermine U.S. standing in the world.

Some analysts believe that the Kremlin's goal is to cause the maximum disruption within the United States, and it throws the support of its hackers and trolls behind candidates based on that goal, not any particular affinity for the persons running."

"Let's be clear, the Russians want to undermine American democracy by dividing us and, unlike the current president, I stand firmly against their efforts, and any other foreign power that wants to interfere in our election."

The brilliance of this new type of authoritarianism is that instead of simply oppressing opposition, as had been the case with 20th-century strains, it climbs inside all ideologies and movements, exploiting and rendering them absurd. One moment Surkov would fund civic forums and human-rights NGOs, the next he would quietly support nationalist movements that accuse the NGOs of being tools of the West. With a flourish he sponsored lavish arts festivals for the most provocative modern artists in Moscow, then supported Orthodox fundamentalists, dressed all in black and carrying crosses, who in turn attacked the modern-art exhibitions. The Kremlin's idea is to own all forms of political discourse, to not let any independent movements develop outside of its walls. Its Moscow can feel like an oligarchy in the morning and a democracy in the afternoon, a monarchy for dinner and a totalitarian state by bedtime.

Common sense and logic dictate that if the Russian interference was hurting Trump he would broadcast that fact far and wide and would direct his administration to do something to stop it ASAP. What he wouldn't do is fire the people who told Congress, as they are mandated to do, and then replace them with unqualified, partisan hacks.

In 2016, Russian misinformation agents and hackers worked to boost Trump's electoral chances, but also threw some of their support behind Sanders as he ran against Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary. Special counselRobert Mueller's indictmentof the Internet Research Agency troll farm detailed how IRA operatives were instructed to "use any opportunity to criticize Hillary and the rest (except Sanders and Trump"we support them)." In the summer of 2016, pro-Sanders IRA Facebook accounts spread rumors that Clinton had stolen the Iowa caucus from Sanders and that her campaign had gotten illegal mail-in votes in Broward County, Florida.

Russia Doesn't Want Bernie Sanders. It Wants Chaos

If there's one line intelligence officials have stuck to about Russian interference in US elections, it's that it never stopped. Not after the 2016 election, not after the 2018 midterms, and certainly not now, well into the 2020 primary season. Which is why it should be no great surprise that, as The Washington Post first reported Friday, US officials warned Bernie Sanders that Russia is "attempting to help" his presidential campaign. It also shouldn't be read as any kind of endorsement.

"Common sense" may "dictate" that we Americans should do a lot of things. None of which Trump or his minions will even consider doing, of course, because that might be the right thing which would obviously make a liberal somewhere happy.

The sites wacky. The citation was opinion and spin, using a few facts, extrapolating on them, and completely avoiding anything that undermines the author's bias. Examples:

Trump is anathema to the rulers of Russia
Seriously? Do you want me to cite Putin's praise in Helsinki? The oligarchs Trump has dealt with? Sold his house in PB to? Who wants a hotel in Moscow?

Trump's reinvigorated NATO.
WTF is that author smoking? Because they're paying what they were on track to pay anyway without Trump's loud-mouthing and undercutting them and all their and our security services?

It is blindingly obvious that the Russians would prefer any Democrat to President Trump.
So that's why Russia's helping Trump again? That hyperbole doesn't help sell the argument.

Yes, if Bernie was doing all those things Trump did, and if Wikileaks was leaking hacked RNC/GOP emails while Bernie was on the campaign trail egging them on, I do believe Bernie would be investigated and all the MAGA-hat folks would be lovin' the deep state action and chanting, LOCK HIM UP! every time Trump stepped on stage.

"LOCK HIM UP!"

To be clear the Trumpers would want Bernie locked up, not Trump obvi.

The timing is suspect to me. Right when it looks like Bernie has the momentum to possibly take the nom, and the DNC is panicking over it, suddenly the Russians "helping him" (whatever that means) becomes big news. Him and Trump, Trump and Bernie both loved by the Russians. The associations alone are bad news for him.

Bernie has been supported by the Russians since 2016. That's the timing you should be taking into consideration, but you're not. Why is that?

I honestly think the timing is related to Trump firing Maguire and appointing Grenell and the fall out from that.

"The associations alone are bad news for him."

Not if he handles it right. Denouncing their help was the right thing to do.

Probably something deeply nefarious.

If the goal is to divide Democrats, I think the Russians would like seeing Democrats accuse other Democrats of being duped by Russia into supporting a certain candidate, or worse, working with the Russians. (see Tulsi)

I think Democrats were duped in 2016 by the Russians. Both Bernie and Hillary supporters were duped. Hillary voters were duped and outraged by the fake Bernie bots and trolls, who they thought were real Bernie Bros. Bernie voters were duped because they thought Hillary voters were falsely accusing them, overreacting, making schitt up. Let's not go there again.

"One of the best ways to undermine American democracy is for the media to constantly tell Americans that our democratic system is run by a foreign power, that polls [and] debate outcomes are based not on the appeal of our politicians but from the invisible hand of an enemy government," explained Northeastern University Associate Professor and Quincy Institute Fellow Max Abrahms.

"Terrorism researchers are familiar with the idea that overreaction to terrorism can be more destabilizing than the terrorism itself," Abrahms, whose work focuses on international security and the strategic effectiveness of terrorism, added. "The same is true about the hysteria over Russia's alleged destruction of American democracy. We can admit Russian meddling without going nuts."

But if you give a political operative a Twitter account and a narrative, well, advising caution is likely to go unheard.

"So [Bernie Sanders] was told by U.S. government officials that Russia has been working to help him win the Democratic primary, and he said NOTHING publicly???" tweeted Democratic Party Super PAC founder Jon Cooper. "This is OUTRAGEOUS! How is it any different than what Trump has done??"

Many experts noted the substantial differences time around.

"The thing that gets me is that none of the purported experts I've seen talking about Russian interference seem to get what [Russian Federation President Vladimir] Putins play is here," noted National Security Counselors Executive Director Kel McClanahan. "I haven't seriously studied Russian intelligence or Putin's psych profile in over 15 years and I know exactly what he's doing."

National Security Counselors is a public interest law firm which specializes in national security law and information and privacy law. Their attorneys represent national security personnel, FOIA requesters and whistleblowers"and advisors include Mark Zaid, who most recently distinguished himself by working as part of the legal team for the intelligence community whistleblower whose report indirectly led to President Donald Trumps historic impeachment.

McClanahan elaborated over the course of several tweets:

McClanahan elaborated over the course of several tweets:

Russia is going to interfere to help a Democrat. Maybe more than one. They're going to do it badly. They're going to get caught. They're going to protest and pull a Shaggy. They're going to blame Ukraine, or Togo, or someone. The entire Trump apparatus is going to make the entire remainder of the election season nothing more than a constant refrain of "SEE THE RUSSIANS ARE TRYING TO HELP A DEMOCRAT BECAUSE TRUMP'S SO TOUGH ON THEM." That way, either Trump wins or the next President is tarnished from the outset with this specter of foreign interference, and the next 1-2 years (at least) all the right-wing media will talk about is how President Sanders/Biden/Warren/etc. is a big ol' Russian spy. It'll ensure that the chaos lives beyond the Trump administration .THAT'S the KGB playbook. Tell me I'm wrong.
