Meddling in American elections goes as far back as the country's first contested presidential election. Though little-remembered today, in 1796, a French agent released private information to the public to try and sway the election in favor of Thomas Jefferson.

It's amazing to me how many woke, intelligent people act like 2016 was something new.
Same as it ever was.

Of course there is Ted Kennedy and his proposed quid pro quo with the Soviet Union to defeat Reagan.

"On 9-10 May of this year," the May 14 memorandum explained, "Sen. Edward Kennedy's close friend and trusted confidant [John] Tunney was in Moscow." (Tunney was Kennedy's law school roommate and a former Democratic senator from California.) "The senator charged Tunney to convey the following message, through confidential contacts, to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Y. Andropov."

Kennedy's message was simple. He proposed an unabashed quid pro quo. Kennedy would lend Andropov a hand in dealing with President Reagan. In return, the Soviet leader would lend the Democratic Party a hand in challenging Reagan in the 1984 presidential election. "The only real potential threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations," the memorandum stated. "These issues, according to the senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign."

Yep... Internet troll farms were all the rage in 1983.

Actually, Ted had to do it with old school Democratic Party, namely propaganda and using the press as a political organ of the DNC:

"Kennedy would help the Soviets deal with Reagan by telling them how to brush up their propaganda.

Then he offered to make it possible for Andropov to sit down for a few interviews on American television. Kennedy would make certain the networks gave Andropov air time--and that they rigged the arrangement to look like honest journalism."

And they act surprised when we find out that Sanders is being helped by the Russians.

Do we *know* that he is not colluding with the Russians?

Has an investigation been opened?

Maybe someone should get the phone numbers of all the Sanders campaign workers and run them through the NSA database.

That was kind of my point. The current trend is to bypass the press and bombard ignorant internet groups with unending waves of -------- and let the uninformed spread the pathogen.

Sorry that I missed your point then, and it is a valid one.

What was most interesting to me is that back in 1984 Ted Kennedy basically said that he/The DNC controlled the press and that they would rig it to make Andropov's propoganda "look like honest journalism."

Much like the MSM in the late 2020s, where the DNC has "rigged the arrangement to look like honest journalism" whenever they need to spread the latest Narrative.

Okay, but since you don't want money out of politics, what's your point?

I mean, if we are going to allow money into politics, it's basically going to be impossible to keep the influence of foreign money out of politics, despite the fact that it's already illegal for foreign money to enter politics.

Since we can't really stop Russians from spreading propaganda on Facebook, I guess the best we can hope for is We The People are better at memes.
