Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

ABC News suspended one of its veteran correspondents late Tuesday for unguarded remarks he made in a video by operatives of Project Veritas, the conservative group that records "undercover" footage of mainstream journalists to bolster its accusations of media bias.

An ABC insider told Fox News that Wright had been hoodwinked into making his statements on camera.

"Wright and the producer didn't know who they were talking to. Didn't know they were being recorded," the insider said. "The person introduced himself as a documentary filmmaker and didn't say he was recording."

Hoodwinked?? Because they didn't know who they were talking to; if they had known, they wouldn't have told the truth..lol

Trump's lying propagandists with their deceptively edited videos are crawling out of the woodwork again. Must be election season.

Whereas fake right wing "journalists" are hired by OAN, Fox and Newsmax because OF their bias.

"Our bosses don't see an upside in doing the job that we're supposed to do, which is to speak truth to power and hold people to account," Wright said,"

No, douchebag. You're supposed to objectively report the news and let the public make up its own mind.

Fox hosts Tea Party Rallies and has anchors on stage at Trump Rallies: Perfectly okay!

An ABC Journalist has an opinion: HELL NO!

Are Republicans getting dumber each year? The data says yes.

#7 Why are you blaming republicans? ABC suspended him for his opinion not the RNC.

So you aren't allowed to have privately held political beliefs anymore? He didn't announce this on-air.

Further, ABC still has Chris Christie and Rahm Emanuel covering politics on their network. Are we to pretend they haven't already announced their political affiliations?

Yeah, I'm sure the newspapers were objective when the Founders were writing the First Amendment!

newspapers were felt to have a profound influence on the early years of the federal government. The main reason was that newspapers were often the organs of political factions, with articles and essays essentially making the cases for political action. Some politicians were known to be connected with specific newspapers. For instance, Alexander Hamilton (1755"1804) was a founder of the "New York Post" (which still exists today, after changing ownership and direction many times during more than two centuries).

In 1783, eight years before Hamilton founded the Post, Noah Webster (1758"1843), who would later publish the first American dictionary, began publishing the first daily newspaper in New York City, "The American Minerva." Webster's newspaper was essentially an organ of the Federalist Party. The paper only operated for a few years, but it was influential and inspired other newspapers that followed. www.thoughtco.com

Sounds like they understood that this is what newspapers are supposed to do, and they protected them from government interference, anyway.

I'm not sure what that statement has to do with a story about a journalist announcing his privately held political views during what he thought was a private conversation. Are you surprised to learn that journalists are human beings with thoughts of their own and not automatons?

"The Horror. A human being during what he thinks is a private conversation states a personal opinion!! The Horror! Fire him!!"

He pulled the veil off. That cannot stand.

""I don't think we're terribly interested in voters," he said, echoing gripes about the superficiality of some aspects of White House and campaign coverage that have been raised by journalists for decades. Also: "Commercial imperative is incompatible with news.""

Saying things that everybody knows.

"But ABC probably was also alarmed at Wright's criticism of ABC News, which is owned by the Disney Co. At another point, he raises another longstanding critique of ABC News " that it blends news with promotion of Disney-owned movies and TV programs.

"Like now you can't watch Good Morning America' without there being a Disney princess or a Marvel Avenger appearing," he says. "It's all self-promotional.""

Infotainment masquerading as news. Again, nothing everybody doesn't already know.

Now imagine the horror and outrage of right wingers if Wright had been suspended by ABC after privately saying wonderful things about Trump. Suddenly his biased comments would interpreted through 180 degree different lens.

pretending to be nonpartisan journalists

Who said his journalism was partisan?

Is every journalist who holds political beliefs in private a "partisan journalist?"

#21 | Posted by JOE at 2020-02-26 04:51 PM | Reply

I have no problem with partisan journalists--if--they are identified as such. Run on a chyron under the screen when Jim Acosta is "reporting." "Jim Acosta--registered Democrat." Or "Brit Hume--registered Republican," etc.

How about ABC news George Stephanoupulous being identified as a former Clinton press secretary at the start of his programs? Most people probably don't know that.

He says he's a socialist, but he doesn't seem terribly unfair.

He also criticized the way the network covers Trump.

"We don't hold him to account. We also don't give him credit for what things he does do," Wright said. "We're interested in three things: the outrage of the day, the investigation, and the palace intrigue of who's backstabbing whom. Beyond that, we don't really cover the guy."

Sounds like a reasonable assessment to me, and ABC is just embarrassed by it.

#27 | Posted by LIVE_OR_DIE at 2020-02-26 06:14 PM | Reply

ABC News has just been called out by one of their own. Good for this guy to admit how biased he is and how biased ABC News truly is and to acknowledge how biased and unfair, innacurate the news reported to all of us by ABC News on Pres Trump has been.

Now take this admission and multiply as Pres Trump has been saying since day one by the other News media outlets -- CBS, NBC, PBS, MSNBC, CNN! Even FOC News is unfair on many occasions to the Pres every day.

There are just too many haters in the NEWS business today who believe THEY can abuse their media powers to attack our President. Just watch how hostile those reporters are at the news conferences with the President. Very little respect or decency or civility are shown by those biased --------.

All he did was say what his politics are in a private conversation. That is not an admission of "bias."

#32 | Posted by goatman at 2020-02-27 10:24 AM | Reply

I think the notion that our news men and women need to be apolitical is absurd. If there's evidence this guy didn't check his politics at the door, fine, but to suspend someone just for admitting in private that they hold certain political beliefs is obscene.

I think it's likely that ABC didn't want to become the target of Trump's online bullying, so they had to do something before that started. Just more collateral damage from having an immature ------- president.

Welcome to Trumplandia! Here, by royal edict one must now break their eggs at the little end or be declared a "never-trumper".

We must all be little Enders in Trumplandia now. Or you are an Other! If you are not a little ender then you are a traitor to Humpy and can not be trusted to speak the truths of the Empire.

As we know only Humpy knows the Truth! (And he is obviously not sharing!)

How should journalists use the basic questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how? Should they naively accept the whys they are given? No! They should press for the truth if they believe it can be uncovered. That's their raison d'tre.

On this I agree with you, Joe. He got suspended for telling the truth. How he performed on the job doesn't appear to have been a factor in this decision.
