Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, February 26, 2020

The snarling incoherence of the latest Democratic debate Tuesday evening made it painfully hard to follow. The evening was defined by peevish exchanges, raised voices, feeble attempts at humor, complaints about fairness in being allowed to speak and extended passages of cross-talk in which moderators lost control of the debate and it was impossible even to understand what was being said. The noise was hardly conducive to a sustained or intelligible argument about whether Sanders is the strongest nominee or the one most representative of the views and temper of the party.

There was no evidence that this particular debate stage was any candidate's natural setting. Nor was it a win for Democrats wondering about the party's future. There were plenty of legitimate things to argue about, and for stretches this actually occurred. But for longer stretches it didn't. This was mostly a wasted couple hours for a party and for candidates who don't have time to waste.

Biden needed a solid performance to get his Senate run off the ground.

I watched the whole thing with my kids from start to finish. Yeah, it got a little loud, a little out of control but we are in a transitional time, the old guard doesn't want to relinquish the reins which are being unceremoniously snatched from their hands. There is bound to be some anger and confusion but the Democratic Party, unlike the Republican Party, is marching forward to a better future for all Americans while the opposition kicks and screams all the way. It was a great debate unhindered by overly controlling moderators and niceties between candidates who have very different visions of the future. It is looking more and more since that Bernie emerged as the winner and now, very reluctantly, some pundits are even admitting he has a shot to win the Presidency.

Now a few words from one of my heroes:

"Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics
Who prophesies with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come senators, Congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows ... "

What the Democrats need is to get their act together.

Agreed, and maybe after Super Tuesday, when the dust settles, they will shake off the vote lampreys and be a little more focused.

Or not.
