Mexico could consider tightening its northern border to slow the spread of coronavirus into its relatively unaffected territory, health officials said on Friday, with an eye to containing a U.S. outbreak that has infected more than 1,800 people.

No problema, compadres: There's a big, ugly wall going up on our border with El Norte. Best part? The stooped gringos are paying for it!

Controlling the border would do nothing to stop COVID-19, at least on our side. They're trying to keep us out, because we screwed the pooch.

People aren't trying to illegally enter Mexico through the US border in great numbers because of a dangerous living situation? Just a thought.

I mean, I don't know about you, but if I lived in a financially destitute area where starving and gang violence was a threat to my life daily, I probably wouldn't let a small wall stop me.

On the other hand, if I was headed into Mexico for a vacation or work, I'd probably obey border closings rather than walk through 100 miles of desert or try to climb a wall and potentially get arrested.

Want to try again?

After spending a month in Mexico I can say that the Mexican service industry dreaded cruise ships docking at their various ports. When I was last there 1 week ago, most of their wait people were calling in sick when 3 large cruise ships docked in Puerto Vallarta the first week of March. Other than the timeshare hustlers on the Malecon, the place was vacant of Mexicans enjoying being by the sea when the passengers started arriving from the ships. They don't dislike Americans they did feel apprehensive after hearing about the quarantine of ships in SF and Japan and were avoiding contact.

Maybe Mexico should check their own maps and close the tunnels.
