Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

President Trump, moving with haste to slow the spread of the coronavirus, is preparing a plan to mobilize the National Guard to help enforce a two-week quarantine of the public if his tough-love efforts so far fail. The unprecedented action would require everyone to "stay at home," according to a source knowledgeable of the evolving plan. The effort, which is still being mulled and wouldn't be announced until early next week if needed, would urge that all businesses, except grocery stores and pharmacies, be closed. It comes on the heels of other insider reports that the president is considering grounding all U.S. passenger flights to force a halt in people interacting and moving around the country.

We all know Trump is considering this through the lens of his own hopes for staying in power.

I'll leave that there to be "mulled".

Who is going to process and deliver all the groceries and medicines, and where are they going to eat and sleep?

Essential employees are going to eat and sleep at work. Power generating stations are already gearing up with bedding and food.

I see something along these lines in some hot spots. not everywhere. It's not possible.

why deploy the national guard in places with zero cases at this point while -------- in Florida, NY, and California are out and about ignoring this?

My girlfriends employer told her their label printing company is essential so it's staying open.... what good is food or medicine without labels.

Not sure if medical marijuana is going to get the same consideration.. but it's essential to me.

"Essential employees are going to eat and sleep at work."

It's not that simple. There are many points in the supply chain where it's not feasible.

You'll have to endure a masked soldier asking for your papers at a checkpoint.

UGH...Washington Examiner is barely a step above supermarket tabloid when it comes to accurate reporting. The Stafford act doesn't give the President such power. In fact I don't think any law exists that allows the President such power over the States. And even if true and the National Guard were called upon in such a manner I don't believe there are enough Guard members to enforce such an order.

"The Stafford act doesn't give the President such power"

I couldn't say, but it's in definitely in the official government plan:

Assumptions
5. States will request federal assistance when requirements exceed state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) capabilities to respond to COVID-19. This may include requests for assistance of HHS through the HHS Region based on the scope of assistance available through an emergency supplemental appropriation and may include additional assistance under the Stafford Act.
