Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, March 22, 2020

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Sunday became the first known senator to test positive for COVID-19. "Senator Rand Paul has tested positive for COVID-19," Paul's account tweeted. "He is feeling fine and is in quarantine. He is asymptomatic and was tested out of an abundance of caution due to his extensive travel and events. He was not aware of any direct contact with any infected person." ... Paul, a libertarian, forced a delay on the Senate's first coronavirus aid bill by pushing a doomed amendment. He later voted against it.

The virus doesn't care about which party a person belongs to.

Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that Paul will be the last elected representative to contract the virus.

His tweet isn't exactly truthful (quelle surprise) as it regards not knowing of any potential contact with another infected person:

Two attendees of the Speed Art Museum's March 7 "Speed Ball" have tested positive for COVID-19, potentially exposing a swath of high-ranking Kentucky and Louisville officials and local power players to the virus.

Guests at the event " held the day after the governor announced Kentucky's first confirmed case of coronavirus " included Gov. Andy Beshear, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, Metro Council President David James, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul and U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth.

Tony, I know a couple of the people infected at that event. It's a big fundraiser.

Hope Gov. Beshear is ok. He's been doing an excellent job leading Kentucky on this, combining solid information with empathy and patience. Other states could learn from him.

I hope legislatures across the country are creating and invoking plans, if they don't already have them, to allow elected representatives to cast their votes without all having to gather in the same chamber. A large outbreak in a house of government could prevent governments from passing the help that is needed and create a national security issue.

But it is the only way to make sure that it is provisioned in alignment with progressive principles. Otherwise, a rich person may be willing to give a doctor a lot of money for treatment, thus leaving someone without money without treatment.

The strongest evidence on the effects of CON relates to access to care. Economic theory predicts that a CON law will restrict the supply of healthcare services, and that once repealed, patients will tend to access greater levels of care.

Obamacare unambiguously increased access to healthcare. Millions of people who did not have healthcare before the law was enacted, now have healthcare.

Rand Paul was and is a staunch opponent to Obamacare. Until he has a plan in writing that is proven to increase access to healthcare, he is an opponent to people having healthcare.

You are conflating two very different things.

Outlawing so-called "assault weapons" takes the most popular rifle in the country (Ar-15) off the market.

Advising people to socially distance themselves is sound advice and more importantly it's not enforced. It's voluntary.

but I'm angry about the way the shutdown is being implemented with its all or nothing approach for restaurants. How can millions of waitresses survive this? How can franchise owners pay their fees or small diners and coffee shops pay for the last stuff they ordered?

Alright. Let them open.

But they should be liable if anybody who works for them becomes ill and then customers do as well.

Can't tell who they got it from? Tough -----. It's as likely from the waitress as anywhere else.

Jake Tapper is reporting that Rand Paul actually took his COVID test 6 or seven days ago, yet the idiot was at the gym and swimming pool this morning!

5/ He got the test six or seven days ago, this source says. He felt fine, had no symptoms, and did not think he had coronavirus.

He went about his daily life, including lunching with colleagues last week and going to the Senate gym this morning.

twitter.com

The Republican Senators are beyond p'd-off at Rand Paul for being up in everyone's grill all week and spending time in the gym knowing full well he was waiting on test results.

Can you imagine how much potential exposure the GOP Senators have had during the past week who've been in close quarters with Paul?

Silver lining-that ------- gets treated like the pariah he should be and is either relegated to the dustbin of history or the dunce corner of the senate.

Rand Paul is one of the few not-unmitigated-good congresscritters. Hope he recovers quickly.

He isn't sick.

Thus demonstrating the importance of Social Distancing.

GoNoles: An early symptom of the virus is losing your sense of taste and smell. Reportedly 70% of German patients are experiencing that.

It could become a way for people to self-isolate faster.

Lost Sense of Smell May Be Peculiar Clue to Coronavirus Infection

So then, speaking as an atheist, do imprecatory prayers work, or what!?! Do I need a kit with a special cup, blanket, hat, what? Jeebus told us in Matthew how to pray, and there might be NO need for accessories.

I wonder which came first: Senator Rand's vote or the results from Senator Rand's test.

#106 No reply on point. You know you got nailed. Nazi Germany was capitalist. Thats why America was so slow to fight them. We loved Hitler over here, until the blitz.

My father grew up in Illinois, he told us as kids that the German American Bund was huge in the Midwest before the war. It was only after Germany went to war with the British that Americans really got serious about nazism because their system was capitalist too. They were less threatening than the Russians. Only after Pearl harbor did America find it's war footing. We used to be an antiwar country in the day. Wonder why we changed so much for the worse?

I believe that may be a factor in determining acute symptoms, since this "self-quarentine" is a stupid charade and everyone has alreafy been exposed we need to isolate mutation epicenters from cross-infecting, imo.

F Paul, btw.

So... it sounds like AT LEAST half the GOP Senators have been exposed to someone (Rand Paul) with a confirmed case of coronavirus. Wouldn't the responsible thing for them to do be self quarantining?

But McConnell refuses to allow remote votes.

Though we only need 4 GOP Senators to show up to maintain quorum.

Sounds like Dems should be able to get things DONE!

Not according to your own posts right here when they are used as models for Socialism/Capitalism examples of successful nations that do incorporate Socialism into the economies.

The world is waking up to the fact that those espousing ideologies are for the most part liars or idiots. Of course, we need a combination of capitalism and socialism, it's stupid to even consider differently.
