Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Opinion: I received my copy of Dan Drezner's ... book -- just before Donald Trump launched into another marathon press conference Monday afternoon. Over some two hours, he made it increasingly clear that this self-proclaimed wartime president doesn't accept one of the key points of war: that they demand difficult, painful choices of national leaders.

"Conservatives close to Trump and numerous administration officials have been circulating an article by Richard A. Epstein of the Hoover Institution, titled "Coronavirus Perspective," that plays down the extent of the spread and the threat. The article, published last week, had predicted that deaths would peak at 500, the milestone surpassed Monday"

What it is really about is that Trumpers honestly believe that their agenda should supersede reality. When they can't manipulate reality to their agenda then fine, ignore reality. Has it occurred to you yet, the people are ---- crazy?

This administration is an outrageous reality TV show that stayed on the air one season too long.
In pursuit of greater glory it crossed a line it can't uncross.
Ratings are down, advertisers bailed, former stars Al Campanis and Jimmy The Greek can't find new work.
So much winning!

Trump faces a challenge that bullying or lying won't fix. He is out of his depth, flailing and failing. SAD!

Bullying and lying are the point.

@#4 ... Trump faces a challenge that bullying or lying won't fix. ...

A month or so ago, I posted a message quoting someone who said that ~with the coronavirus Pres Trump has encountered an enemy he cannot tweet into submission.~

__________
And yet, Trump is clearly winning PR war so far.

1. Being "optimistic" and calling for "getting people back to work" and "economic nationalism" plays in Peoria much better than "doom and gloom" Democrats and calling for months of isolation / social distancing, massive unemployment and corresponding economic misery with trillions of dollars of bailouts and debt - though GOP Trumplican branch doesn't mind that last part at all, as long as they pilot the helicopter they throw these money from.

Biden, of course, will look like... Biden.

2. There is a high likelyhood that, just like H1N1 and Wuhan timeline, the COVID-19 will pass on its own much sooner than "doom and gloom" / worst case scenarios, so Trump can and will declare victory, just months before elections:

"Michael Levitt, a Nobel laureate and Stanford biophysicist, began analyzing the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide in January and correctly calculated that China would get through the worst of its coronavirus outbreak long before many health experts had predicted, Now he foresees a similar outcome in the United States and the rest of the world."
www.latimes.com - Why this Nobel laureate predicts a quicker coronavirus recovery: 'We're going to be fine'

That would be Trump's "winning against invisible enemy," no?

3. Some of Trump's rhetoric about "Chinese / China virus" is two-prong - distraction from substance into his "economic nationalism" and gaslighting Democratic "rasist" trap. That's old Steve Bannon's strategy:

www.thedailybeast.com - Trump's Using 'Chinese Virus' to Pull a Fast One on Dems (Steve Bannon laid out the game plan: Get Democrats talking about race and identity, while Trump turns to economic nationalism.)

www.thedailybeast.com - White House Pushes U.S. Officials to Criticize China For Coronavirus 'Cover-Up'

www.rawstory.com - Investigative reporter explains why Trump and the radical Republicans are calling it the 'Chinese virus'

Of course, the fact is that Trump removed a health expert in Bejing that was supposed to monitor and warn about just that kind of potential outbreak few months before it happened, apparently to save costs, despite already running more than $1T in deficits in what he called "the best economy ever":
www.vox.com - A US epidemiologist was embedded with the Chinese CDC. The Trump administration discontinued the position.

As usual, facts don't matter, it's not about facts, it's about PR, and hyperreacting Dems and breathless media that tries to figure out whether to cover Trump's White House propaganda / rally pressers, letting him play victim again, are only playing into his hands.

Thanks CUTIEPIE. This is a very important message. It bears repeating.

POSTERS:

Don't let the following little tid bit slip past you while you listen to Trump play his usual blame game in an effort to direct your attention away from his own incompetence and ignorance.

This, plus the fact that he was warned about a pandemic in December, 2019 by Obama's transition team. Trump chose to ignore the warning. In fact, in another abundance of ignorance and incompetency, Trump fired America's ONLY Pandemic Response Agency as a slap in the face to Obama's warnings.

Trump isn't acting like a "war time President" because he isn't acting like a "President."
He needs to be forcibly removed. I never thought I would say this but Mike Pence would be a better President.
Trump simply has to go.

To be fair, that probably doesn't matter much. While earlier notice might have helped other countries, it probably would not have helped us. Even once we did learn about it, the government did all it could to ignore, downplay, and deflect from it. And NOT making any real attempts to contain or prepare for it. Learning about it earlier would just have meant more time of conservatives ignoring, downplaying, and deflecting.

Our choice of a national leader - called the President - like Trump who is the typical arrogant, ass_h ole New Yorker who is not afraid to lead, to decide, to brag about his accomplishments, to use facts, intuition, and his beliefs to create policies and even shoot from the hip on occasion ... OR ... the old, feeble minded, 'follower', named Biden who is afraid of everyone and everything and has openly told us he would never ever make a move without listening to his 'advisers'.

Why have a President who tells us he can't decide until his advisers tell him what to do. Let's just elect his advisers.

I know who I want leading us .. the Decider in Chief Pres Trump; never the FOLLOWER in Chief Joe Biden!

Brian Schatz @brianschatz (United States Senator from Hawaii)

The President is too confused, too indecisive, too disorganized, too easily manipulated, too personally callous, and too anti-science, to lead us through a pandemic. His unwillingness to piss off corporate insiders and use the Department of Defense to save lives is Exhibit A.

Trump isn't acting like a President but that doesn't mean he isn't hard at work.

No. 1 priority, of course, is to devote all his "executive time" considering his opportunities to come out on top of this crisis before E-day in November.

He also has to take stock of the leverage he has to punish "blue" states by withholding vital medical emergency supplies now locked up in a warehouse ~ with the end goal of killing off as many registered democrat voters as possible ~ which will all be blamed on the Democrat governor come election time.

Trump's enemy list is always foremost in his mind, even without a crisis. Therefore, this is a golden opportunity to closely monitor their anti-Trump activities and devise ways to pick them off one at a time ~ starting with Mitt Romney, Adam Schiff and any down ticket Democrat that his sick paranoia perceives as traitors.

So yes, this is your President hard at work. Petty, vindictive, snide, vicious, immature, greedy, crass, narcissistic, paranoid, sociopathic, rude, cheating, conniving, scheming and a pathological liar.

What's not to love ~ so sayth his sychophants.

Americans need to actually consider that we have a grifter in charge of our lives. You may trust him to protect you without any evidence to back that up but the rest of us don't.
At some point all of us are going to realize the truth. Donald Trump is not capable of leading us. That's simply a fact.

I'm pretty sure Trump wants this all over by Easter so he can go to Mar-a-logo to golf and to eat his favorite chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

It was your cult leader, Hair Furor, who likened himself to a wartime president, and continues to refer to COVID-45 as an "invisible enemy." The author is just pointing out another lie by Diaper Donnie and explaining how he doesn't measure up to ANY wartime president.
