Taiwanese health officials have accused the World Health Organization of failing to communicate the country's warning in December regarding possible human-to-human transmission of the Wuhan coronavirus, the Financial Times reported Friday.

The officials said doctors in Taiwan had learned from their colleagues in mainland China that medical staff were falling ill from the as-yet unnamed coronavirus, a sign of human-to-human transmission that Taiwan says it passed on to the WHO and Chinese authorities on December 31. However, the WHO did not communicate the information with other nations.

"While the [WHO] provides a platform for all countries to share information on the epidemic and their response, none of the information shared by our country's [Centers for Disease Control] is being put up there," said Taiwan's vice president Chen Chien-jen. Chen is an epidemiologist who was Taiwan's health minister during the 2002-2003 SARS outbreak and oversaw its containment.

Taiwan is the latest country to accuse the World Health Organization of bending to Chinese pressure and says if the global body had listened to them, the novel coronavirus sweeping across the world could have been contained by now.

"The WHO could not obtain first-hand information to study and judge whether there was human-to-human transmission of Covid-19," Chen said. "This led it to announce human-to-human transmission with a delay, and an opportunity to raise the alert level both in China and the wider world was lost."

What's worse is that because the WHO could not obtain first-hand information to study and judge the potential severity of the novel coronavirus, it was slow to sound the alarm, Chen said.

Responding to the accusations, the WHO tacitly admitted it may have had notice, but said it needed to "hold frank and open discussions on sometimes sensitive issues" which "requires that we respect the confidentiality of such communications."

If this is true, the WHO has some explaining to do when this is over.

I am much more concerned about our own President who was calling this a Democratic Hoax only a couple of weeks ago. About other politicians and media celebrities telling us it was nothing and that we should go out and enjoy life. All of us who disagreed were insulted as much as the right wing folks here could manage to do. That changed my view of folks here, some of them are just not nice people. If you suspect I am talking about you I probably am.

No, it would be amazing if they weren't. He is in charge, doesn't the buck stop at his desk? If he didn't want the job he should have said so.

China was crawling with CDC guys - none where allowed to examine coronavirus until it escaped China. Of the 11 million people in Wuhan, 6 million fled before lockdown 23 Jan. China admitted to HTH transmission Jan 28. Medical staff that warned about it before then where arrested.

But images and video coming out in December showed empty streets, soldiers in biosafety-4 suits with machine guns and tanks rolling in. Army tanker trucks with disinfectant spray nozzles spraying everything. Corpses in the street. ABC news just released the footage it's been sitting on from then but everybody knew if you follow independent media. I published it here back in December.
