Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A refrigerated truck has been stationed outside to hold the bodies of the dead. Over the past 24 hours, New York City's public hospital system said in a statement, 13 people at Elmhurst had died. "It's apocalyptic," said Dr. [Ashley] Bray, 27, a general medicine resident at the hospital. Across the city, which has become the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, hospitals are beginning to confront the kind of harrowing surge in cases that has overwhelmed health care systems in China, Italy and other countries. On Wednesday evening, New York City reported 20,011 confirmed cases and 280 deaths.

Remember when the number of people infected in the United States is "going very substantially down, not up." ?

Only 15 cases on US soil, and "when have 15 people, the 15, within a couple of days, is going to be down to close to zero."

What a good job we were doing!

It was only 15 cases soon to be zero! It's going just blow over. 15 days!

Swish!

See ya'll at the packed churches on Easter!

I remember GOATMAN bringing up CPAP machines, and the video also mentioned CPAP machines. Wide distribution of CPAPs might help some folks dealing with this at home. Not a cur-all, just saying.

Ten new cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Manatee County on Wednesday as the total number of cases in Florida surged past 1,900.

The number of cases statewide increased by 510 people in just one day, according to the latest update from the Florida Department of Health.

The new cases come as testing remains extremely limited in Manatee County.

As of Wednesday, Manatee County had tested 188 people, although there is a backlog of residents with a doctor's orders for the test.

One county had 10 new cases and out of a total of 188 people tested

Look at you, proclaiming victory, because the bad situation is up there in dirty New York. A week ago it was in dirty Italy, and a week before that it was in dirty China. What about when it's in the next county over from you?

It's going to come to your town, and it's going to infect people you know, maybe even you, and maybe then you will STFU, you piece of garbage.

What is this based on?
Just because you have contracted the virus, your chances of going to the hospital are 1 in 1000.

Right now confirmed corona cases have over a 1 in 100 chance of death.
The only way that works is if the number of unconfirmed cases is way over 10 times confirmed. It is possible NYC has over 300,000 cases and testing has missed 90% of them. Time will tell.

Nobody should be cheering for Florida yet. Things were left open for a long time under the timid leadership of Gov. DeSantis. As recently as last weekend, the beaches here were packed because other cities around us had sensibly closed theirs.

There is a three-week delay between the actions government and society takes and the numbers of cases. Being low now is great but it doesn't mean we're out of the woods at all.

Miami-Dade has 491 cases and the state has 1,977.

AndreaMackris: You're posting false medical information. It is not true that if you contract the virus your chance of going to the hospital is 1 in 1,000. If that were true the death rate would be under a tenth of one percent, because some of your 1 in 1,000 would recover.

Here's one death rate chart with Italy at 9.8%, France at 4.8%, China at 4.0%, and the U.S. at 1.4%.

www.statista.com

Even if these go down as more non- or low-symptomatic cases are discovered through testing, they're not going to be below 1 in 1,000.

DO NOT POST FALSE MEDICAL CLAIMS HERE TO DOWNPLAY THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS VIRUS.

20.000 cases.

This is a highly contagious virus that incubates up to 5 days before being symptomatic and even then the symptoms are often mild enough that they get blown off. From the onset of symptoms manifesting the host is infectious for 14 days after that. This thing can survive for a long time on hard surfaces like plastics and certain metals. The rate at which it spreads is exponential.

20.000 diagnosed cases. This damn thing is so stealthy and prolific - that is a huge and scary number.

Anyone down playing the risk of COVID-19 is simply foolish and the result of that is deadly. The SPEED of this virus is the key. It burns through areas and anyone who thinks that their area will not see the same wildfire is delusional. Every state in the United States has been seeded (NYC already and the Mardi Gras bomb and Florida Spring Break bomb are yet to explode).

If 200K, 500K or 1 million Americans die IN A SHORT TIME that is so dangerous at any of those numbers that anything reasonable to slow it down must be done. Saving lives comes first. Figuring out Phase 2 has to wait. This is unlike any health crisis to hit the United States since the 1918 Kansas/United States Pandemic (not Spanish Flu - I'm making a point about propaganda, namely we should not engage in it knowing our our history - see The Dotard). That pandemic was covered up by World War I concerns at the time. The truth was figured out much LATER. See Gina Kolata's book "Flu" (1999)

These facts show the lethal speed of COVID-19:

On March 1st in ITALY there were only than 34 deaths
01809 dead March 01st to March 15th (15 days) 188 PER DAY
06356 dead March 16th to March 26th (11 days) 578 PER DAY
03000 dead last 5 days March (EST 600 PER DAY)
11165 dead in one month and growing

ITALY 1806 deaths the first 15 days of MARCH
ITALY 9350 deaths projected for the last 15 days of MARCH is acceleration so frightening that I want to know how it slows down in April.

I am watching the stats out of Italy every day. Until the daily death numbers fall below 500 a day for a week/7 days straight - we know nothing. I'm convinced 3-4 weeks of sustained carnage is our short term future in NYC. NYC metro area population of 20M matches the two regioni/states in northern Italy (Pop 15M) where most (80% plus) of the Italian deaths are now happening.

NYC goes first and then whack-a-mole for each new cluster all over the United States. That is what is so frustrating about 45 making ridiculous pronouncements about "Easter" when we have not even experienced THE FIRST HUGE EVENT IN NYC.

It's a good chart Rcade, but.... confirmed cases is a crap shoot. That column means little to me as most people are getting tested and if they are, the availability in each country is massively different. I don't want to sound morbid, but I think total deaths per population is a better indication on what is really going on.

An old friend of my best friend was found dead in his Long Island apartment by his father two days ago. 47 years old. He told his friends and family that he wasn't feeling well and was planning to self quarantine to be safe. Was at least 48 hours before he was found. A struggling artist and gig worker with no health insurance. I hadn't seen the guy in at least 15 years. There will be an autopsy because of his age to determine COD. There will not be a wake or other service due to limits on congregations. His mother is beside herself with grief.
