Francis Wilkinson: This is not Trump's Katrina; it's his Vietnam -- with a warped timeline. Trump's response to Covid-19 runs strictly on personal pathology. The failure to obtain basic equipment, including masks and ventilators, is akin to sending soldiers off to war without rifles.

In Vietnam, for those of us who remember, the metric for winning the war was body count. The more enemy dead each week the better we were doing.

For Trump the metric for winning is also body count, but in an inverse sense. The fewer who die the better he's doing.

He's therefore going to lie about the number of dead. Just like he did with Puerto Rico.

Do you remember what a HISSY FIT the Right threw when the press kept reporting US casualties in Iraq?

Can you imagine a time when the number of infected or dead from the virus are classified for the purposes of national security?

37% of the population would rather see Trump elected than deal with such information.

I hadn't thought about it before but that absolutely could happen. In fact I expect him to try. Not sure how you can fight a virus and not allow medical professionals to share what they know with one another at a minimum, which includes the number of deaths/infections.

Do you remember when Bush wouldn't allow the bodies coming home from Iraq to be filmed? Last I heard was that the mass murderer was painting pictures in Dallas. Ought to be in prison. Remember when they hung Saddam? I do. It was shameful. I don't care who you are, what you believe. Hanging a foreign leader is not what Americans should ever be doing.

George Bush should not be walking around as a free man today. War criminal. I will someday dance on his grave. I hope I live long enough. Most evil piece of filth to ever occupy the WH and that actually does include the idiot in chief from today.
Even Donald Trump doesn't measure up to the evil of George W. Bush.

The Iraqis hanged Saddam. We were not involved in that. Saddam died game. I saw the video, made me respect the man even if he was a monster.

"The Iraqis hanged Saddam. We were not involved in that."

That is simply nonsense. I didn't love or support Saddam but to say that the Iraqis did that without our involvement is just stupid.
We did that. Like it or not, we did that.
Us Americans need to own the consequences of our actions. We invaded Vietnam, then we left. We own the slaughter of the Vietnamese who cooperated with us. We own the deaths of those killed by napalm in villages.
Same is true with Iraq and soon will be in Afghanistan. When you invade you own the consequences of your invasion.
Never forget that. Cuz it is the most important truth you will probably ever learn.
Those who actually do refuse to learn it are probably evil people.

I agree they would not have executed Saddam without the invasion. I also agree that Bush/Cheney were the most evil POS to be president in my lifetime.
Trump is a piker in evil compared to them. They both belong on hell.

Vietnam killed less than 60,000 Americans. Trump's failure will kill ten times that.

Keep testing scarce.

If there's no positive test result there's no COVID death.

Expect a spike in things like heart attacks and unspecified pneumonia.

A President doesn't get to decide what situations he does or doesn't deal with.

Grow up moron. It's OK to call Trump out when his response and policies are hurting people.

Although it says a lot about the lack of character in his supporters that they can't call him out even when he's hurting people.

Exactly right. His supporters refusal to pull the blinders off and call a spade a spade are the ones making this more political than not.

This isn't some Democratic political stunt as Trump was hoping to convince his supporters it was. So people like SNIPER need to stop considering as such and call Trump out for the lackluster of a leader he truly is.

Couple that with Trump calling Cuomo and New York emergency personnel liars when they ask for 40,000 ventilators. Who the ---- does he think he is? America is not some small business where every decision and action must be first cognizant of the bottom line. And your talking about a guy that spends money quite extravagantly, both in his personal life and of the tax payer's dollars while POTUS, yet he can't come to the conclusion that spending the money to provide 40,000 ventilators to New York during the most significant crisis in a century would be a good idea? Not only that, but he thinks it's another hoax? Someone is trying to get one over on him?

According to MACKRIS, he was HEAVILY duped by the Chinese back in January, believing that they were diligently getting ahead of the virus spread. So maybe he's hyper paranoid even of those who look like him; you know, white, male and rich.

The entire world was duped by the Chinese through December and January.

But once it reached the US that didn't matter.

And the abysmal response and overt lying and distorting Trump and his minions did after it was in the US is why he's deserving of so much flak.

Trump's simple. Americans are too. We got the president we deserve. Maybe Biden will be ok, but to be honest, he's kind of simple too.

The irony is that they're the folks calling Trump's detractors hacks for politicizing the issue. They in fact are the ones politicizing this issue by NOT holding Trump accountable!

MACKRIS, your 'The Coronavirus Cover-Up' thread was taken down. You had asked me to provide some references showing that we are looking to China's response and timeline, pointing to them as an indication that certain measures work.

Whelp, here you go:

"That is America in a few months."
Not likely.
If China is any indication, this will be over in less than three months.
And if not...we can't live like a bunch of scared rabbits forever.

China looks to repair its reputation
By Robin Brant, BBC News, Shanghai

China considers itself to be - very nearly - a "post corona" country.
In the last week we've heard Wuhan medics warning the UK and others that they need to do more to protect frontline health workers, citing the mistakes they made early on when some treated patients without wearing proper protective clothing.
But there's also been reporting in state media of the reported death toll in Italy surpassing that in China. This has been combined with some commentary from prominent media figures that has appeared distasteful, almost triumphalist.
At the same time there is a panic about the threat of a second wave from imported cases - travellers arriving from abroad. This has fuelled the view - right or wrong - that some other countries aren't taking the threat seriously because they aren't doing what China did. (Almost all the cases in Beijing that have been made public are of Chinese nationals returning home).

Trump will be held accountable. Somehow. I'm sure of that. And when he is, it will be far worse than Anything the Dems or anyone else could do.
Reality can only be denied for so long, eventually mortality and public outrage will consume this horrid Moloch of evil.
It will not be something for the squeamish to behold.

"Now, there's one thing you might have noticed I don't complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain't going to do any good; you're just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it's not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here... like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There's a nice campaign slogan for somebody: "The Public Sucks. ---- Hope." "

That's a bit hysterical.

Do you remember when Hillary and Co. killed Gaddafi then laughed about it on National TV?

Do you remember when Janet Reno gave the signal to flash bang grenade and torch the Branch Dravidian compound, killing innocent women and children right here in the USA?

I sure do.

Dravidian = Davidian

Qaddafi deserved what he got, every inch of it. And just for a bit of historical accuracy, a recording of the Davidians talking about and then spreading kerosene in their own Compound was played in open Court in Texas.

There's plenty to question about that standoff and raid, but there was no order to torch the compound. It appears based on the available evidence that three fires were started deliberately by people inside the compound.

And that's what we have to go on.

My point wasn't to criticize anyone. My point was if we are to start pointing fingers in a fashion that Danni did above, we'll all be out of fingers at some point. Calling GW Bush a criminal would bring down every lawmaker that got in line behind him and voted for that.

As far as hillary laughing about Gaddafi being killed - I thought it was sick. There's nothing remotely funny about killing another human regardless of what they've done. It may have needed to happen (not claiming I know) but it's definitely not a laughing matter. Like Obama said of taking out Bin Laden - "we're not spiking the football" - when people wanted to see his dead body.

Both parties are tainted. Militarism is the problem. The tendency to see force as the first and best action. Even with Waco that was obvious.
There are no modern presidents who are not war criminals. They are all afflicted with the disease of militarism and overweening pride of nation.
What we need is HUMILITY, before the electorate, the world at large, and the natural world that sustains us, and could snuff us out if we degrade it TOO badly.

I took this lesson to heart about three weeks after 9/11 when Arthur Miller, famous for writing plays and bagging that hot chick, was on C-SPAN saying that the American people will not accept a President who does not have a killer instict. Three weeks after 9/11 (three hours really) it was clear we were going to invade some brown country, we just weren't sure which one(s) yet.

Trump broke that mold.

Now we see why the mold was important.

Thanks for reading and understanding.
