Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, March 27, 2020

On Thursday night, [Donald] Trump shifted blame for coronavirus's spread to Democratic governors, making it clear he recognizes little obligation to do all he can to avert a truly calamitous number of American deaths. Among the governors Trump singled out was Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan. ... Whitmer recounted that the most recent delivery of masks, gowns, face shields and gloves from the federal government's national strategic stockpile that was earmarked for a Michigan hospital on the front lines of the coronavirus crisis -- in southeast Michigan -- was woefully short of what is needed. "With the exception of the gloves, that allotment is barely enough to cover one shift at that hospital," Whitmer said. "Not even a whole day's worth of shifts. One shift."

What's really driving this? The Associated Press reports on one possibility:

"Trump has kept a close eye on the coronavirus media coverage and noted which local officials were praising or criticizing him, according to three aides who spoke on condition on anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the president's private deliberations."

Donald Trump is evil. Don't spare use of that word, it's descriptive.

In regards to the Governor of Michigan, Trump's behavior is transparent. The man has concluded he will lose that state in November. Now they can all drop dead.

The job of President is working for the People. He wanted the job and now all he can do is complain about those people that he now works for.

The CIC is now officially The Complainer in Chief.

@#4 ... The job of President is working for the People. ...

Exactly.

Pres Trump needs to understand that he works for the People of the United States, and that the People of the United States do not work for him.

It is not the job of the People or their elected local and state officials to provide unfettered adulation for Pres Trump.

The Governors are serving the People of their states when they criticize Pres Trump's poor, some say abysmal, response to the pandemic in the United States.

The Governors know who they work for, the People of their states.

Why cannot Pres Trump understand such a simple concept?

#5 | Posted by LampLighter at 2020-03-27 11:14 AM | Reply

Everyone KNOWS full well it's the sole responsibility of the state, and the county, and the local level elected officials to deploy their public services for the citizens of their state. The Governors (like Cuomo in NY) and the city Mayors (like DeBlasio in NY City) are comical. They decline to ever work with the Federal government, or need its help when dealing with criminals/gangsters embedded within the illegal immigrant community, but when they need to deal with the COVID19 virus they cannot get enough of the federal taxpayer dollars to spend.

I'm completely disgusted with those many liberally led state governments who refuse to support, or collaborate with, Pres Trump or the federal government agencies doing their best to help them.

One would think that as serious this COVID19 is to all of us humans, Democrats would tamp down their political hatred of Pres Trump and their disdain of conservatives in general and just grow up. This is a serious virus that KILLS and it has no political bias, nor racial bias, nor age bias, nor gender bias, nor religious bias. It has killed young and old, men and women, and people in over 140 countries.

This is a REAL time crisis where bickering caused by political hatred only further fuels the crisis, not help resolve it.

It's disgusting to see their are still people in our nation who refuse to learn, who refuse to show compassion, who refuse to lay down the political sword because they think they know better than the rest of us. They don't! They are the imbeciles and the ignorant amongst us.

This is not true. After every major hurricane hits in Florida, it was the responsibility of the federal government to get involved along with state, county and local government.

Some problems in a major crisis are so big only the federal government can get them solved.

@#6 ... Democrats would tamp down their political hatred of Pres Trump ...

Oh please.

It is not political hatred.

The local and state officials (both Democrats and Republicans, btw) are criticizing Pres Trump's abysmal performance so far in this pandemic.

It is not political hatred, it is disgust with how poorly Pres Trump has performed.

It appears to be the supporters of Pres Trump who want to deflect away from that dismal performance by trying to make this a "political hatred" issue.

Most states operate under constitutional balanced budget restraints (thanks GOP). They cannot make money appear particularly when tax revenues are dropping as commerce is shuttered. Vendors do not take IOUs for goods and services.

The federal government has the means to create money with which they are constitutionally bound to do (in conjunction with Federal Reserve policies) if it regards the safety and national security needs of the public. Life and public health are the ultimate rationale for the federal government's existence.

That any America doesn't understand this dynamic only shows that they're wholly ignorant of simple civics and common sense.

Each citizen's federal tax burden dwarfs whatever their state tax burden is, ergo, the US federal government bears the ultimate responsibility of fiscally responding to natural disasters (which any uncontrollable health crisis certainly is) to the full extent of its capability in coordination with state and local governments.

That's the 'we ain't got nothing' strategy they employed during impeachment as well.

"You can't impeach him just because you don't like him!"

We really need to hear about "haters" and "angry democrats" and disdain...

Let's do a thought experiment. What do you think would happen if trump quit - just for a week - ranting, and BSing, and LYING, and belittling, and threatening, and preening, and and and...

We would have nothing to hate, and we could all focus on what he's actually DOING, as opposed to what he's SAYING.

Trump is laying the groundwork for a blame-the-Democrats strategy for his re-election campaign. Leave the heavy lifting to the states so it's harder to trace failure to him; shortchange the blue states and/or punish those that don't lavish him with praise; later claim they failed.

Eventually, death totals will be classified or fabricated to hide the truth. To protect Trump from bad language and criticism. The poor fool can't take it. Everyone must swear loyalty to his towering ego. Where's the praetorian guard when you need them? That is increasingly looking like the only way out.

It's already happening by failing to test at scale with other nations. How many people have died of coronavirus already who we don't even know had the disease?

Too many incorrect statement in that post to fight about, but the biggest is this: "...Pres Trump or the federal government agencies doing their best to help them."

THAT'S the issue you don't understand. They aren't doing "their best" to help. They are actually doing the opposite in a lot of cases.
