Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, March 27, 2020

The House of Representatives on Friday approved the historic $2 trillion stimulus package that passed the Senate earlier this week, overcoming last-minute drama by using an unusual procedural move to thwart a demand by a conservative Republican to force members to vote in person.

I'm as hard on Trump and the Trumpublicans as anyone, and Thomas Massie has once again embarrassed us Kentuckians, but dammit, right now I'm pretty proud of this bipartisan effort. Love that he only had GOPhers present for the signing. He refused to invite any Dems. Talking about petty politics in a time of calamity. Trump wins the prize.

On a separate, currently the heroism of America's health workers is greater than anything from any class of Americans since WW2. They are our frontline. They are the bravest of the brave. This is the new Greatest Generation. Hopefully the American people will gather around them and support them in the way prior generations used to rally for soldiers. Healthworkers are our soldiers now. They are Heroes.

Trump has announced that he's going to have a signing ceremony in the Oval Office but has only invited Republican members of Congress, saying that the Democrats have no right to be there since they tried to stop the bill from becoming law and that it was his last minute negotiating skills that saved the day. He says that the American people needs to realize that it was was he and the Republicans whom they need to thank when they start getting their relief checks in a few weeks and he's just making sure that the Democrats can't take credit where none is due.

Trump should want Democrats around for the signing because appearances of bipartisanship in a crisis make him more popular, not less.

Being petty and excluding them makes him less popular.

His inability to see things like this is one of the reasons he's had historically dismal approval ratings.

When George W. Bush and the Democrats were unified in the weeks after 9/11 Bush's approval topped 90%.

This decision to exclude Pelosi and Schumer is as much of a rookie mistake as his inability to answer the question, "What do you say to Americans who are scared?" Pence easily handled the same question later because it was a softball.

She inserted a bunch of poison pills into it because she knew that it was commonly believed this relief package was necessary. The Senate bill didn't have anything in it other than CV relief.

Something I've learned, a leader does not have to be right every time, but they need to change as the situation dictates. I have seen good and bad leaders screw up. The difference is the good leader continues, makes adjustments and changes and moves forward. Bad leaders blame others for their failure. Come November we shall see what has encouraged and benefited, or at least gets credit. Nancy Pelosi is 80 today. If there were ever a poster child for term limits in congress, she need only look in a mirror.

False. Here's one provision among many they added that had nothing to do with coronavirus relief.

www.nytimes.com

"Senate Republicans inserted an easy-to-overlook provision on page 203 of the 880-page bill that would permit wealthy investors to use losses generated by real estate to minimize their taxes on profits from things like investments in the stock market. The estimated cost of the change over 10 years is $170 billion."

#30 | Posted by JeffJ

Since not a single Republican voted for the ACA, what did you expect? Which is a shame since Obama agreed to dozens of changes to the ACA specifically to placate the Republicans, who had demanded the changes are they wouldn't support the bill, which in the end, they didn't. If I had been Obama, when I realized that the Republicans weren't going to vote for it anyway, I would've gone back and stripped-out all of their crap and we would have gotten something closer to what was needed in the first place.

As for this stimulus package, it was passed with basically unanimous support, and without Democratic votes, it would have never gotten thru either hall of Congress.

Good question. Glad you asked.

Why did republicans try to undermine and refused to even help democrats as they tried to shore up health care in America with the ACA.

You would think they would regret that decision now.

But if jeffy is any example of how deplorables think then they are still proud of that hateful decision. They are still probably trying to undermine the ACA in court right now. Even while they now have to spend trillions of dollars to shore up our health care now.

There's a rumor that Trump has asked if it would be possible to NOT use direct-deposit for the relief payments going to taxpayers, but rather that they be sent-out as paper checks. That way, Trump will be able to include his name and signature on the checks so that people would know exactly WHO they need to show their 'appreciation' to for getting them their money.

As opposed to going bankrupt as a result of having to spend three or four days in the hospital for any range of maladies without any insurance whatsoever. Throw in a trip to the operating room, and well that $7,000 deductible looks a Godsend.

I don't get it.

Doesn't Boeing have a few months of cash and supplies saved up?

How does Boeing have a phone and cable television if they're broke??

You seem to have left some facts out of your "facts first"

The full quote:

Facts First: It's true that some Obamacare plans have deductibles over $7,000 for a single person and many family policies have even higher deductibles. But it's possible to get plans with lower deductibles, and more than half of Americans receive federal subsidies that reduce their burden when it comes to paying deductibles and out-of-pocket costs.

Those federal subsidies are because of the ACA. Without which all America's would have to pay that $7000.

Typical of deplorables. Quoting half of a sentence. Very misleading.

Misinformation seems to be a habit with deplorables.
